Let us not forget to mention some former wrestlers who are now making noise in college football, one in particular is just a pleasant shock.
The NJCAA is tough for football with many DI capable studs having to go that route academically, many of which come to one of the premier conferences in the Kansas Jayhawk (KJCCC). Normally the big time named guys that are racking up amazing stats are guys that are from Florida and are 6'4 240lb running back behemoths, but this year something has gotten a little smaller and faster and is making me smile:
Tailback Jovanni Franklin from Atchison, Kansas (4th at 140 4a last year) was recognized as the offensive player of the week for the KJCCC on October 7, 2006. Franklin had his third 100 yard plus rushing game in only his third game to start and participate this season. Franklin now has 420 yards on 70 carry's in three games for a 140 yard average (6.0 yards per carry) along with scoring 5 touchdowns.
Following that performance, Jovanni mad KJCCC offensive player of the week again against my alma mater Butler where Franklin had his fourth 100 yard plus rushing game in his fourth start as a true freshman. His totals for the year is 595 yards rushing on 105 carry's in four games for a 148 yard average (5.66 yards per carry), scoring 6 touchdowns. Before the Butler game, Butler had the fifth best rushing defense in the country, and the best in the conference only allowing 53 yards rushing per game!!!
Great job on the year by the 5'4 165lb Jovanni Franklin.
