Who thinks it was wise to start Green after his injury?

With hindsite, no. At the time, I would have done the same thing. In Green's defense, the schedule was much tougher when he came back and the defense lost the Cleveland game.

I agree with Chief Renegade. I also think that the blocking has declined since the start of the season.
I've also moved this from the High School forum.

You have to start Trent! He's been the most underrated qb in the NFL for the last few years. He's been second in consistent production only to Peyton Manning. You can say that Damon Huard played well, and didn't throw as many interceptions and all that crap, but he also didn't throw the deep ball. Trent Green brings a deep ball to the offense. Then there's that whole fact that he's been the leader of the team for several years now. No doubt in my mind that Herm made the right decision.
On a side note, it's amazing how quick people are to turn against a teams starting qb. A couple of sub par games and it's time for a new qb. It's not like that with any other position though, just qb. It's really ridiculous if you ask me.

I agree partially with Curtis. I too believe they had to start Trent when he came back. I also belive, at this point, they need to stick with him the rest of the year. If for nothing else, to evaluate him to see if he's going to fully recover from the head injury he sustained. To be honest, I'm not convinced he has/will fully recover. Since they're probably out of the playoffs, they might as well find out what he's got left in the tank.

WOW, I like Green too. But Huard was playing like a bad ace.

In the 1969-1970 season, Len Dawson was injured early in the season. Backup quarterback Mike Livingston took over and the Chiefs won about five games in a row. Livingston did well but the Chiefs strong defense was dominant that season. Hank Stram put Dawson back into the starting lineup as soon as he was ready. That clearly was the correct decision as the Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl in January 1970 against the Minnesota Vikings under Dawson's leadership.
I think the Chiefs made a mistake in the late 90's not keeping Rich Gannon in the starting lineup after Elvis Grbac returned from a broken clavicle injury. Gannon had led the Chiefs to a 5-1 mark after he took over. Grbac had been successful in the first part of the year in leading the Chiefs to a 6-2 start before his injury. Grbac had been signed as a high priced free agent by the Chiefs that year. Grbac came back to lead the Chiefs in the final regular season win. In the 1/4/98 playoff game against the Broncos at Arrowhead, the Chiefs lost 14-10 and did not take advantage of several scoring opportunities. I thought Grbac did not have a good game. Gannon went on to the Raiders in 1999 and played with them thru 2004. Gannon played in Pro Bowls in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. He was the overall NFL MVP in 2002.
I think the decision to start Green when he returned from his injury was definitely correct. Green has been a great player and leader for the Chiefs. Huard filled in very well for him though. I really liked the way that he utilized Tony Gonzalez. I did think that they were going to leave Huard in the game Sunday after Green was injured in the third quarter and Huard came in and led the Chiefs on a scoring drive that gave the Chiefs a 35-17 lead. I would have liked to seen Huard been given at least one more series, but Herm has been pretty consistent in handling this quarterback situation. I think Green should definitely start this weekend in the playoffs.

In my opinion, I believe it's safe to say the Chiefs will have to do something different @ QB next year (along with a couple of other positions). I realize the O-line couldn't stop Freeney & his boys but Trent looked like his reaction time was ALOT slower than in years past. I'm not sure there was much that could've been done by any quarterback in the same situation, but I sure would've liked to see how Huard handled it in the 2nd half. Just my 2 cents.....

I guess I would take the position of, "Hey Trent, you're healthy and that is great news, but man, Huard's hot right now and I'll just wait for him to give me a good reason to put you back in..."
It seems odd to me that Huard was rated in the top 5 and benched and when that happened, Gonzo wasn't used as much and games the Chiefs should have won were lost.
The Cheifs got a gift from the FB gods to get into the playoffs, but when you get to the 1 yard line and come away with no points, you don't deserve to win.
I frankly feel Herm screwed the pooch when he didn't make/find a way to keep Saunders as his OC. To me, the first thing Herm should have done was to walk into Al's office and say, "Name your price! Whatever you want, you've got it! Just as long as you stay here and keep this offense clicking on all cylinders..."
I was excited to se Herm come to KC, but quite frankly I'm scratching my head about some decisions he's made this season...

I seem to remember the Chiefs dealing with a similar QB situation a few years back with Gannon vs. Grbac too...
Stayed loyal to the poor QB and the other left to bite 'em in the butt while with the Raiders.
Just hope this does transpire into the same thing.

I agree completely Shane. Al Saunders was the reason the Chiefs were so explosive on offense. Herm comes to town with his conservative play and how can you stay explosive? By running all the time? No way. Larry Johnson did a great job this year, and got a lot of yards, but when you get that many carries you'd better get that many yards. Just think of what Priest would do with that many carries. The reason the Chiefs stunk it up so often this year is b/c of the offensive coordinator. Sure, Trent Green didn't look like the ole Trent Green, but nobody on that offense looked like they did last year. Nobody played consistently. And how many yards did LJ have against the Colts? Only like 35. And this is a team that was giving up an average of 179 a game. That's ridiculous. The coordinator has got to do better than that.
p.s. Trent Green's still my qb no matter what. W/o him the Chiefs would be nowhere, and he deserves to have the chance to take them back to where they've been offensively before.

I guess I just think that if someone is doing great. Let them be until they "Eff" it up. Then yank'em out.
