Kids State

As I was watching the kids state tournament on Flowrestling. I could not believe the way some parents “cheered” for their child. And in some cases; cheered for a team due to their hatred for another team. A lot of parents need to STOP living their wrestling dreams. Through their kids. And I am going to be honest. For the majority it was the “mothers”. And to be quite blunt. A lot of them sounded real stupid by some of the things they were saying. Some of them acted as if they were at a street fight by the words coming out of their mouth. Sad to say. But it’s just a matter of time before a melee occurs in the stands. PARENTS, its KIDS WRESTLING. It’s a great achievement for kids to make it there. Even better to win it all, or even place. This is preparing them for high school and college. And trust me. Success at kids doesn’t always equal success at the next level. Also, not doing good at kids level. Doesn’t mean they won’t be good at the next level. So parents it’s ok to cheer on your kids. But try to do it with class. And I’m not going to get into how some of the table workers were talking. A few table workers had complete hatred for a certain team.

After the smoke cleared, we asked if anyone got the license plate of the truck that hit us. Missouri brought it last night. On paper, I expected to win 4-6 matches and we won three with two very close losses.
Still some awesome efforts! Proud of our guys battling! Overall Team Record since 1992 is 24-9 Missouri.
MISSOURI - 54 KANSAS - 15
150 KS: Jacob Goodwin, Goddard MO: David Gleason, Staley - WIN 20-3
165 KS: Grayson Hagen, Lawrence Free State MO: Merrik Murray, Staley - WIN BY FALL
David Gleason from Staley must be an absolute stud and also Merrik Murray from Staley. Looks like Gleason is ranked #12 by Flo and committed to Missouri. And Devon Harrison is committed to Oklahoma State

5A state tidbits
Champs: West-9 East-5 Placers: West-57 East-27 5-6-7-8 seeds winning vs Higher seeds from other regional in first round West-18 East-2
We really need to seed the state tournament or find a way to make the regionals more balanced. It shouldn’t be easier to place at the state tournament after taking 5th or 6th instead of 3rd or 4th. I agree the state tournament needs to be seeded, but I don't see how that will change the disparity between regionals. 4A has the same problem between the south central regional and all the rest. Not as much disparity as you think in 4A. Maybe state champions. State Champions by Regional: Rose Hill 9, Abilene 3, Labette County 2, Tonganoxie 0; Placers including state champions: Rose Hill 27, Abilene 23, Tonganoxie 18, Labette County 16 If my math is correct, and only count 1st thru 4th placements, the Rose Hill regional took home approximately 50% of the medals. Old timers like myself only count the first four.

D2 6u state weigh in site at District 2 tourney
doug747

We will have a 6u State weigh in at the district 2 tourney Saturday during district 2 tourney from Noon to 1 PM. We'll have a scale and computer set up in the hallway to the left of the entrance to the arena, so you won't need to have any kind of pass or ticket to get into the arena to use this weigh in. Thanks

Thanks, and you are right, that #175 match was awesome to watch. I don't know if I could pick a weight that had the most exciting match, because I thought there were quite a few final matches that had me twisting, yelling and yelling some more. It was fun to watch

Re: How finals and medal presentations were done
RichardPowers469
03/05/25 02:12 PM
I think it would work best if nobody was allowed on the floor to take podium pics, but they were made available FOR FREE to download online. Setup a nice backdrop with a nice podium, and have a professional (semi-professional even) take them to post on KSHSAA website or something. As far as whether to do all medals at the conclusion, I can see both sides. It sucks for the 106 pounder from eastern Kansas to have to wait until the end, but I also like that people weren't filing out before the HWT match. IDK the right answer, but I think KSHSAA can spring for a photographer. Surely Ft. Hays has students that could handle it.

Looking for JV Tournaments in 2025-26

I know that the KWCA site does a great job at listing Varsity Tournaments & Results, but is there a comprehensive list for JV Tournaments out there? I am looking to bolster our JV opportunities, but can't find anything out there. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

No WiFi at Salina
Brian K. Patton
03/03/25 12:17 AM
I know some had WiFi , but Verizon wasn’t able to access Trackwrestling. Also, no team scored was announced at the end of the first round. I know, I didn’t move. My first state wrestling tournament was 1999 at Ft Hays. I had to use a call in card to call back home on results. Not sure if this is a State problem or the tournament director. This is 2025.

Re: Rumble at the Rock Update
bburen
02/25/25 05:34 PM
As noted yesterday, we are moving to a split session tournament. To do so, we are adjusting our times as well. We apologize for this, but in an effort to accommodate as many wrestlers who showed interest, we are making this change to also get wrestlers out in a timely manner.
Session I will begin promptly at 830. It will contain both boys and girls in 6u, 8u, and 14u. Early projections show that it will be completed by 12:15. Session II will begin no sooner than 12:45 once all action from Session I is complete and some time is given to warmup. It will contain boys and girls in 10u and 12u and it is projected to be done by 3:45.
As a reminder, weigh in links have been sent out. Please check and make sure they are working for you.
If you have a girl to move to the girls division, PLEASE go in and change them to a girls division and girls weight. I can tell you right now, early projections will have combining of classes.
This will not be the last communication. Please keep an eye out for more.
Best,
Brad bburen@ksu.edu
