Great unselfishness showed at Frontenac! - 01/16/10 08:19 PM

Two sek wrestlers done something so unselfish at the Frontenac Touranament. Brandon melekus from Frontenac and Adam Cole from Chanute. They wrestled Steven Melton from pittsburg wrestling club. Steven has DS and they wrestled matches with Steven and let him win. To the two of them i have the utmost respect. Then when the tournament was coming to a conclusion, they awarded outstanding wrestler awards. And Mr. Hensley of the fwc awarded the three foot trophy to "STEVIE MELTON". He showed the most excitement in his announcement. The whole gym erupted in aplause. This is a moment that i will never forget. Thank you Frontenac for putting on a great tournament., and showing some real class in doing it. As for those two sek Thank you!

i am so proud of adam and brandon, they both made stevie earn his victory. working with him throughout the match so he could learn. these two young men approached me and asked how they should wrestle stevie, and should they let him win. i talked it over with stevie's mother and we decided that it would be ok, but that he should have to "fight" for it. in the end adam still got 1st and brandon got 2nd in the round robin. while everyone else got teary eyed. i feel blessed to know such great young men who are mature beyond their years. when denny hensley annouced that stevie was chosen for OW, stevie rushed to the center of the gym, did his best John Cena "you can't see me" impersonation, and hoisted his trophy high above his head. all i could do was smile, as tears ran down my cheeks. all i could think about was how they are truly MY HEROS.

GREAT JOB KIDS I AM SO PROUD OF YOU.

Thank you for sharing an incredible moment and truly respectable & humbling event of athletic maturity in Brandon Mlekus & Adam Cole. Steven has Down's Syndrome (DS) and this is his 1st year wrestling.

Bravo Frontenac Youth Wrestling!

Perfect example of what is good about our sport. That stuff should be on flowrestling or something like that. You said it - those kids are on the right path.

What an awesome story!! It just goes to show you that kids see a lot more than we give them credit for. You guys are showing what wrestling is all about being a big family and taking care of each other. I will be sharing this story with my boys.

I have seen other great moments at different tourneys, but that is just awesome. As a coach, these are what makes it worth the effort.

My son Jayden and an Abilene boy did the same thing at the Abilene tourney this last weekend. One of the JC coaches said something to me as Jaydens coach(dad) and I proudly told him that was his idea to help his new friend Cody from Marrysville. Jayden took Third and sent his medal home with Cody. To hear of 4 boys at two different tournaments show so much compassion for there fellow wrestlers is absolutely awsome. I am very PROUD of mine and consider it an honor to be able to work these fine young men.

I saw the match hats off to Jayden. I have nothing but respect for Jayden. If Cody would like to wrestle Isaiah he is willing. We will be at Rock Creek on feb 6 Isaiah will wrestle 12u88.

that is awesome, what weight is cody? stevie is 12u 84-88, maybe these two should get together and exhibition. state tournament maybe? i have a friend who is on the board for special olympics ks, i have pushed him for years to try wrestling. this would be great for all to see.
