Seeding Question

Seeding Question - 03/16/12 03:56 PM

Just a question here...
Look at Dist 2, 12U 165...
The North Sub had one wrestler
The South Sub had five wrestlers

When they combine to make the district bracket the 5th place westler from the south gets to advance, and I think that is the way it should be. But what strikes me as weird is that the 5th place wrestler from the south gets promoted to the 2 seed of the north.
Wouldn't it make the bracket more realistic if either everyone advanced a seed to fill the the bracket or if the 5th place took the 4th place seed for the north. Because now the 1 seed from the north has to wrestle an extra match more then the one seed from the south.
Now if this was a round robin it wouldn't matter. And people will say it will work itself out etc etc
But in a close bracket like this when kids that are wrestling for 3rd and 4th spots that seed could be everything!

Just looking for feedback...

As a wrestler and coach, I would like to have a first round match. It does bring some questions though, why a 5th placer would jump over to become 2nd seed is strange, but who should get it?

North 1
South 4
North 3 (BYE/ or South 4?)
South 2
North 2 (BYE/ or South 3?)
South 3
North 4 (BYE/ or Sount 5?)
South 1

Well I agree
Especially if we were talking about OW criteria as well (but we are not)
I think either both the #1 seeds should have a 1st round match or a first round bye
So that either puts that 5th place as a 4 seed or the 3S seed moves to 2N the 4S moves to 3S and the 5S moves to 3N and that gives both 1st place seeds a 1st round bye

Correct me if I am wrong, but they wrestle 5 or less in a round robin format for subs and districts.
6 or more move to seeded type bracketing.
Holler at the district rep. They should be able to clarify that for you.

I don't think it matters. But the #5 kid now wrestles the #3 kid which is exactly how it should be.

In looking at a 12u lowest weight (64 I think)in D3.
A 5 man round robin is scheduled for tomorrow. No seeds. They all wrestle everyone.
Once there is 6 or more is where it gets sketchy.

Good luck to all of the competitors tomorrow.

If there are 6 kids in the bracket and 4 are from the south and 2 are from the north then the S1 would get a bye but the D1 would have a match. It has been like this for as long as I can remember. In this case there were 5 from the south and 1 from the North so the south #5 placer takes the N #2 spot. Nothing we can do about it. Its the way the bracket falls. Im sorry but you'll always have scrathes and some kid may not get a first round match and some kids will get a first round bye. Thats wrestling.

Ya but your 4th place kid has to wrestle the #1 Seed. He performed better then then the 5th place kid who now wrestles the #3 seed. Who has the better chance of advancing?

Its all over now but I just think it is something that may need to be looked at in the future.
