2013 HEARTLAND USA ELEMENTARY NATIONAL DUALS

This years event is April 12th, 13th and 14th.

It has been moved to the Ralston Event Center in Ralston, Nebraska. Ralston is a suburb of Omaha. The event flyer is available at Nebraska USA Wrestling.

This is for 1st thru 6th graders and we plan on taking 4 teams again.

Wieght classes are 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140, 160. We are also allowed 3 alternates per team.

Each wrestler will get a Team Kansas singlet, shorts and t-shirt. All gear will be similar to the Middle School stuff. Entry fee to the duals, travel to and from the event and hotels are included. Water for the wrestlers is provided as is pizza on Saturday night. I am working on reserving hotels, etc but I expect the cost to be similar to last year - $240.00. We will be staying in a hotel that has the ability to provide breakfast for all the wrestlers.

Like last year, we will be meeting and leaving from the Capital Plaza Hotel in Topeka. I will post the times later, but we need to leave no later than 12:30. That will allow us to get checked in to our hotel and make it to weigh ins at the 5:00 start time.

There will be a coaches meeting in Wichits to select the teams after the state tournament. I will post the date and time later. All coaches are welcome. It would be nice to have a representative or two from all 4 districts at this meeting.

If your wrestler is interested, post his name, weight, grade and team he wrestles for now. I will update the list as we go. There will be a link to the required forms, etc posted later.

I will need volunteers to coach, drive vans and work the table during each dual. PM me if you are interested in helping out.

Talked to Chandler Eaton's mother (Tiffany??). She said Chandler may be interested in going at 160#. He's a 6th grader wrestling @ 12U 150# now. I believe he's out of the Jr. Panthers Club. Would somebody be able to get her more information about this tournament?

I know it is early, but we always seem to struggle getting the upper 3 or 4 weights filled for this event. Any help is really appreciated.

They bring in extra staff to make sure there is plenty of food and the wrestlers are fed quickly in the morning, open the meeting room for us to give us extra space, and serve beer and snacks at night for the parents.

I've had a couple parents ask about the deadline to sign up for this. It's not too late. I just need to hear from you by April 2nd when we meet to choose the teams.

The singlets are designed and for those of you who don't know, we are going with the Wizard of Oz theme. I think Will Cokeley or James Cook posted links under the Middle School Duals and you can view them there. I am not any good with a computer or I would post them myself.

The four singlets the Elementary Teams will wear are the Lions, Scare Crows, Tin Men and Flying Monkeys.

The shorts and t-shirt designs are also complete. We will have extra t-shirts for sale for parents. Adult small thru 2XL is what I will have available. If you need another size, please let me know so I can order it.

I will have Mike Juby post a link to the required forms and other info in the next couple weeks.

It looks like we still need a few wrestlers in the upper weights.

They haven't posted what the singlets look like yet. Each year it is exciting to see these singlets. Hope they post pictures soon.

Gavin Cullor, Linn County Twisters, is interested anywhere between 95-105. Willing to wrestle anywhere.

just want to share something for this event. last year my son wrestled at 100 during the regular season. i put him in before thinking about it at 105. after practicing 4 days one week and 3 the next he was weighing 97lbs. he weighed in at 97 wrestling 105. he lost 7 matches all season. he was 3 and 5 at these duals. so before you sign your son up just think about that. most of the kids my son wrestled were cutting several pounds and by the time they wrestled were about 10 lbs heavier. i will not make that mistake again. im not saying you have to cut weight but i see a ton of talented kids on this list and think if we get the right kids at the right weights kansas teams can do very well. last year we were real close to having 2 teams in the final 4. i think we could do that this year with the talent we have signed up. i know not all kids are signed up yet. several kids will not be going due to injuries. just think about this when you finalize where you want your kid to wrestle. yes this is a fun event but if your winning it makes it even better. last year we saw teams from missouri, illinois, minnesota, nebraska, south dakota, ohio and probably others. one of the toughest events we have ever been to. the boys get to stay in rooms together and meet new friends. parents and coaches get to hang out and talk friendly. yes even beeson lol. sorry chad had to throw your name in there.

Generally, by the announcement on the forum/board of which team comprises which wrestlers at their respective weights. Never the less all interested wrestlers should have insurance card copied, birth certificate copied and grade report copy and $ ready to send Coach Eck. They work hard on the development and all signed up for inclusion should be "ready to go" even if chosen as alternate

I will post the teams and alternates Wednesday.

In the past, we've had lots of kids decide not to go as alternates. If your wrestler is not chosen initially, keep an eye on the forum as there most likely be changes to the alternates.

We will be meeting and leaving from the Capital Plaza Hotel in Topeka Friday April 12th.

The Middle School Teams have rented a large room to pass out their uniforms. Last year, the room was too small for us and we just did our thing in the parking lot. If the room is large enough, we will be inside the hotel. If not, and it is nice outside, we may do it in the parking lot again.

I'd like the wrestlers to be there by 10 am. We need to hand out the uniforms and get them their van and room assignments. I want to leave no later than 12 noon so we can get checked in to our hotel before we weigh in.

Weigh ins start at 5pm - We will be there early so we can be one of the 1st teams to weigh in. WE MUST WEIGH IN AS A TEAM.

I know it is out of the way for many of you to meet in Topeka. It is no problem if your son rides with you to Omaha. I need to know so I can keep track of all the wrestlers. But remember, we have to weigh in as a team so make sure you are ther early.

I also need to know if your son will NOT be staying with the team. I will be doing room assignments and need to keep track of all wrestlers.

Your wrestler shouldn't need much money for this trip.

After we weigh in Friday, we will eat as a team. Your wrestler will need money for that meal.

The hotel serves a good breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. They bring in extra staff so they can keep up with all of us.

On Saturday, we provide turkey and ham sandwich's for the wrestlers. Saturday night we provide pizza. We provide water for both days.

The kids will need some money for Sundays meals.

We are at a new place this year - The Ralston Event Center. They don't allow outside food and drink to be brought in. The food and drinks will be kept outside in the team vans. The wrestlers will have to go outside to eat and drink.

This is a city owned arena, so I assume the concession prices will be high. They know this is a wrestling event - I hope they have some healthy choices - but i wouldn't count on it.

Ogdens Outlaws are still practicing. Monday Wednesday and Thursday this week 6ish to 8. Royal Valley High School

If I am not mistaken all wrestlers singlets, shirts and shorts have already been ordered and are sized by the wrestlers weight/age from the manufacturer and there are very few, if any, extras, so the sizes are what they are.

Tim, I understand his frustration on being an alternate. But I would try to encourage participation he'll still get all the gear and wrestle some great kids and make some new friendships. Plus every year an alternate team ends up placing higher in the final brackets than some states top teams

How does being an alternate work? You still wrestle on a team?

I can only tell u how it worked in the past... Which was all alternates from all teams were used to make up alternate teams these teams were added to the pools and wrestle then put into placement brackets same as all other teams and most turn out to be very competitive

The alternates get just as many matches as the kids on the other teams. Several of the other states bring their alternates too and they make up a mix and match team of alternates to form a "team." Plus, like Trowbridge said, the kids get all the same stuff as the other kids. It really is a cool event. They still get to hang out with other Kansas kids at the Hotel.

T-shirts are $15.00 each or 2 for $25.00 - I usually have plenty in all adult sizes. I think I ordered a few extras in youth sizes this year also.

Correct - all gear has been ordered and sized from Blue Chip Athletic. We have very few fitment problems but I do have a couple extras in case.

A question has come up about how we choose the alternates.

In previous years, I could wait until I knew who the alternates were before I sent them in to Nebraska. This year, I could not wait and was forced to send in weights only. This is how the alternates get on the alternate teams.

Also, historically we have had mostly 60 - 100 lb kids as alternates - so I order singlets to match those weights.

The day I sent the alternate weights in, I counted the number of wrestlers signed up at each weight. I also looked at the other teams alternates to see where our weights fit in and made my choices based on that.

After I had already sent in the alternate weights, there were some weight changes and additions that changed the number of kids in three of our weights. Had that happened earlier, I may have made a different decision on one alternate weight.

If I take alternates at weights other than what I sent in, I don't know that I can guarantee any matches for those different weights.

Also, we did not rank the alternates in any way other than in their respective weight class.

Understanding you have some tough decisions to make, if I understand correctly... my son Dax wrestles 120 ... 38-8 on the year, at state the last 3 years, placed 2 of those years, has lost only to kids on the teams listed.... has no chance of even being chosen as an alternate?

I am confirming Logan Gugelmeyer team #1. He will be riding up with his father but they will be staying with the team at the hotel. If you have and adult 3x or 4x shirt we would like to hold one if we can do that and pay you for it when they get there. Logan wears and adult medium in short, shirt, and singlet. I told Wil today after school where he was chosen and that is what it is. I feels as though he may have been disappointed not making a team. Im not going to ask him to wrestle if hes not going to give it all, never have and never will. Just my oppinion, but between #75, #80, #85 and #90 are some really tough kids. We have wrestled most of them over the years and they're all good. He has beat some and lost to others on the list at all these weights, but he weights #83 and at #80 I feel as the kids where chosen in the same order I would have chosen for the best team to represent Team Kansas. Luke Richard, our Team 1 75 isn't going so we have moved the other 3 75's up. I am waiting to hear from Mark Butcher to see if he is going.

If not, Nolan Craine and Jake Knowles are next in line.

Bowan Murray is ill and can't go as an alt at 70. Both Nolan Craines dad and Jake Knowles dad have said they can go at 70 if needed.

Clayton Bowers has staph and is not going at 50 on Team 2. Levi Glover is going in his place on Team 2. I want to thank Hunter Taylor's parents for agreeing to this. Hunter beat Levi at state, but since Levi's brother is on Team 2, they were kind enough to let the brothers wrestle on the same team.

I am waiting to hear from Luke Barker as an alt at 55.

I am working on rooming lists - if your son has a preferenc as to who he stays with, PM me - I can't guarantee he will get his roomates, but I will do my best
