Re: 8and under 61 - 02/23/06 03:47 AM

This is has proven to be one tough weight class in the 8&U Division. There are several kids who have all done very well and are all very tough wrestlers and fun to watch. It has proven to go any direction on any given Saturday. The list includes (no particular order):

Trenton Allen - Haysville
Tyson Rodriguez - Dodge City
Lonnie Finney - Clearwater
Chuckie Schmidt - Eureka
TJ Ragnoni - Salina
Trevor Smith - Winfield
Cole Brown - Team Lightning
Jake Rodman - Rose Hill
Brody Bazzelle - NW Grizzlies

This should prove to have very good match ups for Districts and State. Good Luck to all.

Here are a few more names to put into the mix, Dayton Will - Salina
Joe Baldridge - Derby
Brody Bazzelle - NW Grz.
It all depends on a few who could go 58,61 or 64# for state.

Scout Lee- SEK is undefeated in Ks. this year. He will most likely be at 61# for subs, D1 south

Has Scout Lee wrestled any of the above kids this year?

Re: 8and under 61 - 02/23/06 11:11 PM

I believe Landon Wood from Ulysses has only lost one match this year at this weight class. That includes several national tournments. He would have to be the favorite going into state at this weight.

I agree with G Rodman this weight is a very hard weight my little brother was in it last year and always seemed to have tough wrestlers on every saturday. I belive Kyle Schrader of Russell is in this weight.

Dayton Will is a 58 pounder I believe, but none the less he is good. And Baldridge he's tough and very good. I dont know who Scout Lee is but if he's undefeated he must be tough!!

Looks like Scout Lee is wrestling 6U this year, so I doubt he has matched up against any of those listed above. Don't count him out, there are several 6U's that make it to state every year.

Look at Independence and Coffeyville results. He was wrestling at 58 in one of those tournaments.

Re: 8and under 61 - 02/26/06 05:03 PM

Here's a couple other names to throw in the mix. Triston Potter from Ark City and Conager Welch from Indy. Conager was a 6U state qualifer last year.

This is a tough weight class, depending on who goes at 61, there could be some good wrestlers that don't make it out of subs.

2coach I think you might have your story a little wrong about Wood. He has not lost a match from a Kansas kid at 61 or 64. Even at 10U. He did lose a match at 8u 67 but everyone has one of those days. He has not decided what weight he wants to go yet but probaly will take state at either weight. They dont run or stay away from competion as you may assume. They travel across the United states looking for the best. And I think if Im not wrong he has only lost 4 time total on a national level. Why I see the amount of people that love to see him loose is ridiculous and I think its jelousy. We should be proud to have someone represent our state as good as he does. The problem I think is that he wrestles with so much intensity and passion that people take it wrong, Get to know him and his dad. They are good people before you judge them.

To JJD;
Thank you for understanding what some don't. I appreciate you post on Landon and I. Also a big thank you for the support of the Campbell's at Liberty.

To 2coach;
First off, Landon decides what weight he will wrestle, has all year and will continue doing so. As far as me not wanting him to wrestle someone @64, totaly untrue. If you check the results we have jumped all around looking for the competion, 61#, 64#, 67# and even 10U 64#. List of tough (KS) tournaments other than Salina.
Maize, Derby, WWC, Haysville.
All were 64# or 10U 64 and some were both.
Wichita Classic, 8U 64 is where Landon wanted to wrestle because he went 61# at Salina. So for your "FINAL ANSWER" of where he is going, he will decide the when he is ready, not me.

I never said Landon was running from anyone, I was just informed that he had a friend who's son wrestles at 64 and he didn't want them to wrestle.

I think thats what this site is about, to post your thoughts and feelings. I have not been negitave and I know Jason can take a joke. As far as kids reading this, I do not see anything wrong with it..

Re: 8and under 61 - 03/01/06 04:11 AM

Jason Thanks for the appreciation. We enjoy watching Landon wrestle and Caysean really wanted to watch him win the Crown Award. I know for a fact that Landon doesn't dodge competition and also believe he will be top seed at whatever weight he choses. Tell Landon we wish him the best of luck at Wichita. We'll see you guys around subs. We'll be matside cheering.

Re: 8and under 61 - 03/01/06 07:14 PM

Let's put this to rest. I know Landon is not running from anyone. if you guys can read I said what I was told, I did'nt mean to imply that he was running. Jumpstart says maybe the sources were wrong, maybe they were who knows? I know Landon will take 61,64 and heck he could probably take 67 at state. Jason I'm sure you know how to get in touch with me. If you feel that I cut you or your son down, feel free to call me. This topic was asking about all the tough kids not just one. Mr.bazzelle thank you for listing all them kids, I hope to see them there.

Fine to keep the talk going folks, let's just keep it appropriate, leave out the negative, even if in fun regarding the kids.

Re: 8and under 61 - 03/06/06 12:29 AM

I think some adults easily loose sight of what kids sports are about. My son isn't involved in sports at a young age to see how many matches or titles he can win. He is involved now as a child to become a better competitor at the high school and college level. To learn the love of the sport as he learns the fundamentals. I see so many unfortunate kids who are forced to cut weight and who are screamed and yelled at by coaches and parents. I have to wonder just how many of those kids continue with sports in high school and college. I bet someone out there knows that number. How many/percentage successful college wrestlers began their wrestling careers when they were 5 or 6 yrs old?
