Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/30/04 06:24 PM

Was I the only person to witness the security guard by the head table, keeping kids off the floor, and being a JERK about it. I understand not wanting kids on the floor, but to tell a little 8u kids to go sit in the floor, because he's not up? I wanted to get on the floor to cheer on a teammate, but was turned away b/c i wasn't up in 5.... he was yelling at everyone and just being an all around JERK both days. He would yell at certain kids and let others go free. I personally didn't approve of him? anyone else's thoughts?

I was a "victim" of this guy, my club had 8 kids wrestling and two pink passes, i had given one of the passes to my fellow coaches was taping up my kids hand on the west side when the same guy literally grabbed me and told me to leave the floor, i explained to him that i would as soon as i was done taping and would go get my pink pass to coach the three kids we had up in 3 matches. I also had with me floor passes for table workers which my family was going to do in the afternoon. He informed me that they were not valid at all.
I taped my kid up and was escorted off the floor, the officer yelling loudly as he went up behind me on the steps. One of my kids matches came up and i tried to get back to the floor, the officer then informed me that i was ejected from the building for the remainder of the tourney. I did not raise my voice, act inappropriately or anything. I was literally feet away from the head table and tried to appeal for help, the other coaches were coming with my pink pass, i had a valid table workers pass and my band.

I also was committed to work a table in the finals session with my 6 kids, this guy informed me that he was going to have me arrested for trespassing if i showed up. In the meantime, many others were on the floor without pink passes, wrestlers were down prior to five matches and he was concentrating on a power play with me. i went to the stands and sat behind mat 13, he periodically came up and asked me to leave the building. He then waited until my 14 yr old son was with me and came up and told my son that I that his Dad was going to be arrested. I left and came back in about an hour through the pass gate with my kids to work a table in the finals, he saw me in the bathroom, i had both my coaches pass and afternoon table workers pass on plus my band, he stated that my credentials were invalid and i should leave, this time i completely ignored him and went to work my table, he informed me later that since i had my kids with me that he would let it slide. i agree Bronco,,what a trip. one of the best days of my life coaching my kids at the state tournament turned in to a day where i was harassed and bullied.

I had a simular experience a few years back with the shaved head security idiot. I hope they are not asked to return in the future.

They should just hold state somewhere else like the coliseum where you can bring food in and more closer to the other districts than just district 1

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 08:52 AM

That same SUPER IDIOT has been at the same stairs leading down to the wrestling mats for several years. He has been doing the same EGO-DRIVEN stupid harrassment. If for no other reason, if they can't get rid of that idiot I would be in favor of moving the State Tournament. He is a real JERK.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 05:52 PM

I think from what I have read, there has been a little more than just "DOING THEIR JOB" involved here. He does have a job to do, but I think there is a limit of how rude and disrespectful you can be. Especially when it is us who is paying he his paycheck. If we didn't rent the facility, he wouldn't have that job to get paid for.

Yes, That security guard was doing his job but he was abusing his authority.
P.S. learn to use the correct words like "their" instead of "there" and correctly spell words.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 06:04 PM

they probably would'nt have to be that way if you did'nt have brat kids keep trying to go down the wrong stairs and have to be told four times and then you have your "to good to walk around coaches" that get pissed off cause they have to walk around. i even saw one coach (i won't say from where)get up in the guys face and tell him he's gonna get his later.

Brat kids? I thought this was about the KIDS? I'm a fellow coach of Illegalhold and believe me, he has nothing but the wrestlers best interest in mind. He is a well respected coach and official known throughout Kansas and the Midwest. There is no need for the security guard to even act like this. The area he was in was one of the least congested areas of the floor as it was near the 16u mat.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 07:15 PM

I really wish the man was "just doing his job" that would have been fine with me. I tried to reason with him regarding my situation and it only escalated his "bullying" behaviors. I was not going to post anything but just leave to an isolated instance where somehow i had ticked the guy off, however, after Bronco's post i could not refrain.

"Brat kids"? Are you OK sixshooter? A kid that is picking up his plaque? As Suzanne said, "Any reasonable person", must not include sixshooter.

They are all Brats. We need more people like superstud security guard and sixshooter at these kids events.

We have enough stress to handle as coaches, wrestlers, and parents and we do not need this blatent abuse of authority to make matters even more stressful. Please take the time to call Mr. Walker (Head of security for the Expo) and explain your situation. I will do the same and hopfully others will as well. The number is 785-235-1986 and ask for Charlie Walker.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 10:43 PM

Craig Adams just came up with the best post. Everyone needs to call the Expo Center and if they want to retain that SUPER IDIOT another year it is time to move the State Tournament someplace else. Maybe they could have a Super Team of Super Idiots working next year without a tournament, and they could all abuse eachother. It sounds like SIXSHOOTER, or whatever his name is, just might work out on that team.

i saw some kids that were like up in one match tellin the security guard that and the security guy was like u have to go around, some of them prolly ended up late to the match. I thought it was a bunch of B.S. if u ask me

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 03/31/04 11:26 PM

They were not really security gaurds. They were in fact referees that could'nt work at the State finals due to bad calls at district. That might explain the sour attitudes.

I don't buy that last post. All the officials in Kansas have way more smarts than Super Idiot showed on the stairs by the head table.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 04/01/04 02:50 AM

He stopped my son from coming down to warm up prior to the finals when the back side matches were winding down with only 2 mats wrestling. I asked him who's decision it was not to let anyone on the mats to warm up. He turned and asked the head table if they wanted to allow kids on the mats to warm up, and they said sure. So it's apparent he was making up some of his own rules. In any case, 5 matches is a hardly enough time to get stretched and focused after sitting in the stands for 2 hours.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 04/01/04 03:49 AM

This "kind security officer" may have been doing his job, but he overstepped his boundries with many people, on many occasions. After the finals match, the kids were sent to go get their plaques at the head table, and were told to go down the stairway by the head table. I happened to be walking, and talking with my young son, congratulating him on his big win, and helping him get dressed.(there was quite a draft in the expo all day.) I also had a table workers pass, but had no intention of going down on the floor with my son. I went down the steps, pointed to where he needed to go, and what he needed to do. I wasn't blocking anyone or anything at that time. This guy told me "to get off the stairs, that they had enough people down there, and that the kids knew what to do." Well, my son is young, and had never been at this point in his wrestling career. He didn't have a clue what to do with the bout sheet. Anyway, after he spoke to me very rudely, he proceeded to push me up the stairs. I informed him, "I was going," but I had just recently had knee surgery, and can't manuever the stairs as quickly as I usually can. He once again placed his hands on my back, and gave me another shove. At that point, I'd had just about enough. I turned around and said again, "I'm going, and get your hands off of me." I also informed him that he had no right to touch me, and had he done it again, I would have considered filing charges on him for assault. What a jerk!!

I understand that they have a big job to do, but come on buddy...get a life.

By the way, thanks Craig Adams, I'll do just what you suggested. I'll make my call tomorrow.

I know who that security member is and he used to be a member of or club. But never coached because he had to work the state tournament. He had the match number list of when we can up and would not even let us down unless "we were up in 5" Luckly he is no longer a member of our club!

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 04/01/04 12:59 PM

I didn't attend the State tourney this year due to my Brother's wedding on Sat. in Mo. Weren't there 2 ways down to and 2 ways up from the floor? I would have just bypassed the "jerks" side and used the other side of the arena. Or was the entire place manned by the same type of "person"? I have noticed in the past that some were not hassled when trying to get on the floor, and others seemed to need to prove endlessly that they did belong down there. I would love to see the tourney moved to another location, but don't know where that could be.

Re: Expocenter Security Guard On Power Trip - 04/01/04 02:28 PM

I went down that stairway probably twenty times this weekend and had very little trouble. He did seem grouchy or angry (maybe stress), but only stopped me the first time to check my passes. The problem I had with him is related to another posting. He told me as the mats were being pulled up that I should have a talk with the other coaches to stop the flow of contaband food coming in to the expo. I have no idea why he said this to me, but I informed him that the coaches have little or no direct contact with most of the wrestlers at the tournament until it is time for them to compete. The parents bring their kids to the event and it is difficult to police everyone. I also told him that the Expo needed to lighten up a little on the food situation because most of our wrestling families were working folks that had to save money just to get their wrestlers this far. I also told him that if the prices were more reasonable then the bringing in of food would not be as necessary. I do agree that he did seem overbearing to others in line ahead of me and to several of the kids. We need to contact the Expo and tell them how we feel.

Not to mention the selection of food on the venue. Just what my "athlete" would like to have for breakfast --- a hot dog!

I hadn't thought of wrestlemom, but your right. I am a diabetic and literally had nothing for myself all weekend. Just water. I was busy and am not complaining, but others with more free time might have seen it differently.
