did anyone happen to see nitcher's semi finals match with plott? from what i heard plott could have been awarded a close takedown at the end of the third.

Yes. It should have been a reversal.

Yea i agree, Plott had the reversal. Steven had that match and ultimately most likely the state title if he would of beat Chase.

flamingo, Steven had hooked a leg and was on top of Chase with less than 10 seconds left and should have been awarded a reversal, instead the ref called a stale mate and put Steven back on bottom with very little time left. The match ended 3-2 with Chase the winner

i had heard something about steven having an ankle spurred and not having the points awarded. id sure like to get some video of this match to see for myself!!! Chase was one good call away from an 50-1 record!!!

well sorry to inform all you Nitcher haters, but he won the match and he is 50-0. Why discredit a great wrestling whom had a great year for something he has no control over?

flamingo: He would be 51-1 if he had come back to take 3rd.

ksman01: There is no hating here, I'm just calling it how I saw it and what I thought.

either way he had no control over the match call. Its over and there is no changing it. Chase Nitcher is the 5a state champ and you can't take that away. So how about we congradulate the young man on an outstanding season rather than saying shoulda woulda coulda

That's why people talk about it, that's why this thread is titled "near loss." I know it can't be changed. And I have congratulated him on his season.

Yeah some of the refereeing was "suspect" last weekend. and before ksman01 tries to flame me, I know it can't be changed!!! However why the ref didn't call it a reversal is sooooo beyond me!!! I watched that match and was dumbfounded by the non-call!

whos discrediting him?? nobody is discrediting him for his perfect season. i simply heard it could have been a bad call, a bad call by the ref! that has nothing to do with Nitcher himself. dont turn into a third grader when you hear some one elses opinion. it our OPINION

Re: near loss - 03/04/09 02:32 PM

I think it was a call that could have gone either way, but the reason I do not think it was called a reversal was because Chase never let go of the leg and Steven never got up on top AND behind him. Normally to be called a takedown (or in this case a reversal) you have to hook the ankle and get both hands behind your opponents arm pits. But because they were both so flexible and their bodies were so contorted that never happened. Chase had the leg held tight and was bent in half (with his nose touching his own knee). Steven was able to scoot Chases' ankle out and somehow hook it. Then he got his arm free and draped himself across Chases' back. That is why you could have called it a reversal because he had the ankle and was "on top", but he never got "behind" him, he kept trying to scoot around but never got past about half way. So they ended perpendicular to each other, but to be "behind" him you have to be more than perpendicular.

I am not sure if you can visualize what I am trying to describe, but I can see why it was not called a reversal. I thought the injustice was that the ref called a stalemate. With 12 or so seconds left, Steven had a better chance of finishing off scooting behind then he did of scoring off a fresh start.
