Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 02:26 AM

I think there is a big match in the FIRST round of 4a - 160: Hattabaugh-AND/Cannon-DeSoto.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 02:36 AM

Burns vs. Finney in semis of 4A 285lbs.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 02:44 AM

In 4A - 119 #1 Zac Sparr (RH) should meet #3 Robbie Hines (ULY) in the second round.

Following that, the winner will likely then have Kriss (#4)- Colby for another big pre-finals matchup.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 12:59 PM

Chase Sanchez (Emporia) vs. Tyler Davis (McPherson) semi's at 145 5A
Posted By: Buster84

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 01:07 PM

That should be a very good match!

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 01:33 PM

Dozier (Garden City) vs. Middleton (ONW) could a fun one at 6A 145 which I'm sure Buster84 is well aware of.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 01:37 PM

Yes sir!

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 01:48 PM

To continue with my 145 pattern, 3-2-1A will probably have two great semi's and 4A top side of bracket could have some great scrambles. No offense intended to anyone I didn't mention, just talking about matches I am looking forward to seeing. I will be watching 5A/6A but have to settle for internet updates on the rest.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 01:59 PM

I think that there should be a couple interesting early matches in 4A 152.

Son (Chanute) VS. Rodriguez (ULYSSES) Quarterfinals Bout 145
And
Blair (VC) VS. Picking (Abilene) Semifinals Bout 298

Personally I'm really looking forward to this 152 Bracket, a lot of great wrestlers going at it.

Don't you mean Humphrey/McCullough winner vs. Norris/Witten winner, all four are state medalist. Although Humphrey is favored, McCullough did beat him at state two years ago. Norris certainly will have his hands full with Witten. And that's a "weak" 6A bracket.

Re: Big Matches - 02/25/10 09:32 PM

5A
112-First Round
Lukas Maki Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel 09 (37- 4)
versus
Bryce Dakin Emporia 10 (9- 4)

Interesting matchup, Dakin has state experience while Maki has none. Maki's been wrestling pretty well this year and could catch fire with a big win here setting up a possible matchup with Pursel.

Tim Prescott McPherson High School 10 28- 5
versus
Bye

I'd look out for Bye in this match, he's been on fire this year.

140-First Round
Trent Hoover Salina South 12 (24- 9)
Versus
Brent Koehn Pittsburg 10 (31- 8)

Returning state runner-up could be on the backside wrestling a tough Hoover from Salina who may be ready to step on the medal stand in his senior campaign.

Brandon-Carpenter in Rd 1 6A 189 should be a great match AND

Caylor-Marlatt, Bush-Pearch, & Knudson-Hicks in the 215 Bracket all are close.....I think.

versus
Jonathan Walker Hays-TMP 9 (21- 8)

112 1st Round
Skyler Goepfert Marysville 12 (26- 5)
versus
Daniel Melcher Herington 09 (30- 12)
Note: These two met earlier in the year, Goepfert won, but Melcher is peaking at the right time beating out former state placer Clint Solis of Leon-Bluestem at regionals.

Isaac Cairo Horton 12 (27- 4)
versus
Steven Howard Eureka 11 (19- 6)
Note: Winner gets returning state champion Schumacher of TMP.

119 1st Round
Jeremiah Breen Wellsville 12 (24- 5)
versus
Carlos Gallaway Stockton 12 (22- 9)
Note: Two former state placers duke it out in the opening round to see who has a long Saturday. Could be payback for Gallaway since Breen beat his brother Diego 1-0 at last year's tournament.

Michael Vander Linden Burlington 11 33- 8
versus
Cole Leis Garden Plain 10 30- 17
Note: Rematch from the Eureka Tournament. Vander Linden won by fall, while Leis is a returning state medalist.

versus
Garth Griffith Atwood-Rawlins County 12 (30- 5)

125 1st Round

Jesse Brown Rosalia-Flint Hills 12 (19- 4)
versus
Brent Juenemann Oberlin-Decatur Community 10 (25- 7)
Note: Brown has a state medal to his credit, Juenemann appears to be peaking at the right time by beating out state runner-up Riley Hunsicker of Ellis at regionals.

Andrew Peterson Oakley 12 (32- 7)
versus
Hunter Stalford Caney-Caney Valley 10 (32- 10)
Note: Stalford, a state champion, could be on the backside of a state tournament.

140 1st Round
Tyler McMichael Burden-Central 10 (30- 0)
versus
Connor Pfannenstiel Norton-Community 12 (28- 14)

Cody Wildin Marion 12 (29- 3)
versus
Nathan Deeds Goodland 11 (26- 5)
Note: Wildin was a state runner-up last year, while Deeds finished 4th, something's got to give.

145 1st Round
Sheldon Graves Rossville 11 (40- 7)
versus
Eric Albers Oakley 10 (28- 12)
Note: Rematch of 1st round of last year's state tournament. Graves won 1-0, should have medal implications like last year with Graves finishing 5th in '09.

152 1st Round
Sage Thimmesch Garden Plain 12 (34- 1)
versus
Derek Tyler St Marys 10 (32- 13)

285 1st Round
Clay Wilcox Anthony-Harper-Chapparral 9 (37- 8)

Re: Big Matches - 02/26/10 08:13 AM

321A
112 Quarterfinals
Goepfert of Marysville
versus
Ochs of Hoxie
Note: I believe this is a rematch of the Beloit Tournament with Ochs winning.

130 Quarterfinals
Rogers of Smith Center
versus
Thibault of Halstead
Note: Freshman could derail a 4X State Champion and make his own 4X run.

Smith of Rossville
versus
Clarke of Lyons
Note: Winner gets a medal and likely a 2-3 record in the tournament.

Biddle of Central-Burden
versus
Broeckelman of Norton
Note: Biddle took 3rd in a bracket that Broeckelman was poised to final in after a runner-up season the year before. Broeckelman went home empty handed and he's been spotty this year with surprising losses at Newton and close matches with Rogers. Biddle has been impressive but hasn't wrestled near the competition.

Davis of Lakin
versus
Schamberger of Hoxie
Note: Davis looks to get on the state podium for the 3rd year in a row while Schamberger looks to continue his year of improvement.

135 Quarterfinals
Hurla of Rossville
versus
Lamb of Saint Francis

145 Quarterfinals
Wildin of Marion
versus
Wolters of Atwood

152 Quarterfinals
Eaton of Smith Center
versus
White of Horton

Thimmesch of Garden Plain
versus
Rachow of Phillipsburg

Klein of Minneapolis
versus
Bainter of Hoxie

160 Quarterfinals
Thibault of Halstead
versus
Kinderknecht of Ellis
Note: UPSET SPECIAL

171 Quarterfinals
Torres of Minneapolis
versus
Perez of Norton
Note: Rematch of Phillipsburg Tournament, Perez won 4-2.

189 Quarterfinals
Omli of Ell-Saline
versus
Lowe of Eureka
Note: Rematch of Minneapolis Tournament, close win for Omli not sure of score. Lowe will have just wrestled Omli's teammate Crosson of Minneapolis, so expect a good scouting report.

215 Quarterfinals
Jirak of Oakley
versus
Youngers of Garden Plain

Martinez of Marysville
versus
Voth of Lyons

285 Quarterfinals
Wilcox of Chaparral
versus
Denny of Caney Valley
Note: Rematch of Clearwater Tournament with Wilcox winning by fall.

Huffman of Douglass
versus
Cotter of Goodland
Note: Rematch of last year's state 1st round, with Huffman winning 10-5.

Re: Big Matches - 02/26/10 08:14 AM

I couldn't pick a lot of the 321A Semifinals because many of the weights are either wide open or have clear cut finalists like 135.

321A
103 Semifinals
Harris of Stafford
versus
Speer of Horton

Skillman of Burlington
versus
Risewick of Norton

119 Semifinals
Werner of Plainville
versus
Breen of Wellsville
Note: Battle of the 'villes. Rematch of last year's state tournament. Werner won in the quarterfinals 11-0, while Breen got a fall in 3rd period in the consolation finals.

140 Semifinals
McMichael of Central-Burden
versus
Floyd of Osborne
Note: Likely should have been the finals match. Oh well, just go out and wrestle.

160 Semifinals
Gentry of Rossville
versus
Shirk of Norton

171 Semifinals
Engstrom of Hoisington
versus
Attwood of Smith Center
Note: Likely should have been the finals match. Oh well, just go out and wrestle.

215 Semifinals
Siale of Chaparral
versus
Lowe of Eureka
Note: If Siale doesn't hook up a head lock this could be a tight match. This is a rematch of Circle Tournament with Siale winning by fall.

285 Semifinals
Huffman of Douglass
versus
Rice of Phillipsburg
Note: Rematch of last year's state finals match with Rice winning by fall in the 3rd period.
