Newton tournament of champions - 01/09/12 11:43 PM
looking like another tough tournament. 120 , 126 , and 138 are beast brackets. Does anybody know if Union is bringing their whole team this year though .? saw a list of every ranked wrestler at each weight coming and there was a few tough Union kids not on the list

Re: Newton tournament of champions - 01/10/12 12:26 AM
What are some hopeful matchs anyone would like to see?
I can think of a couple (sorry if I leave many out)
106- stone/star/deshazer
113- Gentzler/vierya Also rematch between vierya/Garcia
120- Calderon/suppes/Perez/Harrison
126-Stoke/waters/Haralson/Edwards
132- Eastman/Goetz/hurtado/lee
138- milsap/kriss/mcEAchern/charbs/villers/Heincker (going to be a battle to place!)
145-Williams/Becker/Adler/johns
And many many many more matchs and weights to go...
Throw in many upsets, union kids, and everything in-between!!!!

I am asking this honestly as I am no expert in paying attention to 5A team line-ups? What 7 guys were missing from their line-up?

2 state placers that have a good shot at making the finals at state this year and they heavy weight got hurt first match that more than likely would have placed and pretty sure they are missing one other

I think Union is ranked in the top 6 in 6A OK at about half the weights so I'm guessing this preview only listed the Union guys that are ranked nationally??

As far as the Crutchmer - Conklin match, I saw a takedown. Every weekend we see a wrestler with both arms wrapped around both legs, with the offensive wrestler stretching to keep his feet in bounds, and the ref awards two points. That's what I saw. I'm sure everyone has their own opinion though.

Re: Newton tournament of champions - 01/16/12 03:14 AM
On my first trip to the Newton TOC, I'd have to say I had a blast. Got to see some tough wrestling action with a lot of ups and downs. It was definitly some good prep for the state tournament. I also have to give a big hats off to those involved with making this tourney happen. The finals were pretty entertaining with all of the pre-finals entertainment, loved the head standing drummers, that flag was awesome, and the set up for presenting and introducing placers was pretty cool! Was an awesome weekend and can't wait to be back. Thanks Newton!

Yep. I have been their before live. The NOISE, MUSIC, QUALITY of the speakers/dancers ('pre-finals entertainment' as you so aptly call it), etc - all TOP NOTCH! (Whoops, and the wrestling to...dah - TOP NOTCH!!!)
I couldn't make it this year but thanks to all for the up-dates! I appreciated them very much!
