Jared Johnson is not from Prairie View. We would have welcomed him, but I think it would have been quite a drive!

Re: Kansas metro classic team - 02/25/13 03:16 PM

These kids represent 27 state championships among them. That is an amazing number when you think about it and when you couple it with the kids that were in the finals in addition to the ones who won it, it is more amazing. This is a pretty accomplished group on both sides this year. It should be a real shootout.

I have MO favored in 5 matches, kS in 4, and 5 toss up matches. Should be a close dual.

Re: Kansas metro classic team - 02/28/13 03:44 AM

Salas will not pin Blackwell. That match is winnable for Johnny. We will have a good shot at falls at 220 and 285. Puckett and Daniels will also be close.

Salas pinned Randy Boerner in the finals at Bobcat, Boerner beat Blackwell in the semis. Although, I did not see either matches. I know they had two close matches two years ago, but I think Salas is at another level.

Definitely correct, I just had to pick one of them.

Agree with you here. I picked decisions, because Drake and Collins are tough, although not as good as Gatica and Butler (respectively). I do not think pins are very likely, but I definitely see a good possibility for Butler getting a fall.

Re: Kansas metro classic team - 02/28/13 10:16 AM

Salas and Blackwell have wrestled each other twice and have split those two matches. Should be a lot of fun. Boerner led Salas late in that match when Salas pinned him. All three of those kids are great wrestlers. Boerner is no slouch and Salas and Blackwell are as tough as they come.

Re: Kansas metro classic team - 02/28/13 02:14 PM

I think there's a good chance that Gatica can get a fall against Drake, not sure if Butler can against Collins. This is no slight to Butler, who I've seen wrestle several times (though not at HWT). He's given J'Den Cox some of his most competitive matches the last few years. Maliek Collins is literally a mountain of a man - 6'4"-6'5", all of 280, playing football for Nebraska next year. And not a bad wrestler. I expect Butler to win, but by fall will be tough.

Blackwell & Salas will be a war, that's why I had it as a toss-up match...

I think it the dual will come down to bonus points. I see MO getting them at 113, 120 & 145, and kS getting them at 182 & 220. Momentum could have a lot to do with it as well, as MO is much better in the lower weights, and kS much tougher in the upper weights.
