KSHSAA State Question

KSHSAA State Question - 09/22/22 02:23 AM

Did I see correctly that Girl's State is Thursday-Friday and Boys is Saturday- Sunday? Thought I saw 26th listed on boys for both Track and KSHSAA which would be Sunday. Just trying to get clarity, especially with potentially having opportunity to announce another event that weekend, but might be able to do finals for both Girl's and Guy's if it works.

No, the Girls State will be Wed-Thu and the Boys State will be Fri-Sat, just like last year. I believe the dates you looked at must have been for 2022, not 2023.

They need to move the boys and girls together and do it Th, Fr, Sat and do sessions. Its not fair to the boys or girls to have their state tournament on a Wed and Th when no one can come. It was kind of embarassing how small the crowd was during the girls finals Thursday afternoon.

I think the issue is we have Boys in 3 different venues. Girl's in 2.

If anything, put Boys on one Weekend, and Girls on another. In Nebraska they do that with basketball...you have a huge draw in Lincoln on 2 consecutive weeks with all divisions spread at various venues in one town.

Give each division a 2 week break to heal (like college). This would allow for many colleges to recruit more too since they normally are same time as KSHAA. Maybe 2nd and 4th Weekend can be Girl's in Even Years with the Boy's being 1st and 3rd Weekends for qualifiers and such- Also while we are at it, allow for the 4a and 321a to wrestle out to 5th place at regionals in case someone is injured and has to scratch...9th in 5/6a.

I want super regionals in 321a and 4a. Too many times have potential state placers been left at home because of their regional assignment only to see a kid with losing record at state. That way the best 16 wrestlers will be at the state tournament.

I have noticed on the KSHSAA website that they don't have the state sites updated for 2023 yet. They do for basketball and several spring sports.

Agreed. Like Western State head coach Charlie Pipher said at his camp last summer, "girl's wrestling is unquestionably going to save our sport." The fact that we are making them wrestle at state on Wednesday and Thursday is ABSOLUTELY BANANAS. I am open to literally any other option, but for these gals to not be permitted to have their friends in the stands during the finals because they couldn't get called out of school is just absurd. It would be one thing if it were an "every other year" thing, but to just have it be the expectation that girls have to get kicked to the middle of the week every year is laughably sexist.

I couldn't agree more Coach Parker. The only ways to do that are to put 6-1a boys and girls in one building, or separate 321 from 4a girls and do Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at their own sites. I know alot of coaches that were out of the classroom from Tuesday until the next Monday.
