While on your journey to "Strive to correct people that pretend to be a reliable pursuer and presenter of facts!"; will you have time to correct your many, many misstatements??

Salyer you have room to talk! You posted a deal on the TOC at Newton. I know you copy pasted it from another source (the Newton Paper) but for someone that strives to be a pursuer of all things right, you didn't bother to correct the following:

1. Furches and Rogers the #1 and #2 6a guys not listed.

2. Bishop Lynch not at the tournament now as they pulled out.

3. Goddard never at the tournament to begin with.

But you know what's real funny?! I brought those points up on that thread you started, but guess what? Notice the thread is gone? You're a rat and a baby and when you are wrong you just delete things and cover them up instead of honing up to your mistakes.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 04:57 PM

I would like to point out Edison losing for many reasons. One, he's a great wrestler who is still probably the favorite to win state this year, and for good reason. Two, all summer long I heard people saying things about him being so strong and being a "man-child", but he still lost to a wrestler who would not be a contender had the competition been higher this year. We shouldn't start these little forum bandwagons because the parents of a few wrestlers get on here and update all summer long. No one has really said anything about this yet, but I'm sure it's only because it came as a surprise and is a sore spot for some of the Wichita families. Good jobs suckas and I'll enjoy my Newton bracket/domination, so all of you you who did that please, please do the same. It's almost as good as Beloit's bracket. So, next week for those who are going to both, win the Beloit bracket. It's sweet. Prant never won it.....
Posted By: billy_mcjackson_ripjc

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 05:02 PM

Sorry, but same with Madden. Everyone talks him up so much, then he get's it handed to him. Let's talk about other things instead of who will win. Like the Denver Broncos for example.

Actually, big ups to Big Steve at heavyweight. Nice medal there and keep it up next week at Beloit.

So what really did happen with Manhattan's poor performance? The wrestlers are solid they just need the right direction. Top 3 dog, that's where you guys should be. Come on, for me. Come on.
Posted By: Glick125

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 08:27 PM

I think Madden might get talked up because he's a 3 time state champion. Clay has nothing to do with the talk, as he is one of the most humble people I have ever met. Just because he loses ONE match doesnt mean anything. I know your jealous Billy, because Clay accomplished more in one year then you did in your whole H.S. career. Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time then talk down on wrestlers?
Posted By: Glick125

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 08:38 PM

Also, I looked through all 50 posts under this topic and for some reason, I didnt see Madden getting "talked up" once. Hm....weird....
Posted By: From the Stands

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 09:14 PM

Glick125, you were not in the stands, were you? Talk was all around. Coaches mat side at the semis match were saying 'this is just to see who will lose to Madden in the finals'. And the punch at the end of the match? I've seen champions lose but not usually with punches at the end.
Posted By: jumpin jack flash

Re: results from newton toc - 01/15/06 10:07 PM

From the Stands,

Obviously you were not there if you are saying a punch was thrown. I was there and I could care less who won or lost but was looking forward to watching this matchup. Aaron did dominate Clay, no question about it, and after the third period buzzer sounded Aaron did continue to shove and push for a very short time and Clay did shove him out of frustration. I would encourge the moderators to delete your post as you are telling everybody that Madden threw a punch when this did not happen. Don't you honestly think if a punch was thrown the officials would have taken the appropriate action. Please don't get on here and falsely accuse wrestlers of doing something that they did not do.

Posted By: broeckelman

Re: results from newton toc - 01/16/06 02:10 AM

Great comment's Glick and jumpin jack. "from the stands", do you want to step onto the mat with Madden or are you happy to just lie about what happened. Punches?? And talk around the mat? Which mat were you at??????? All I heard during the finals was the entire crowd erupting when a Norton wrestler would lose. I guess 3A shouldn't be Back to Back Champion's!!
Posted By: chewbacca

Re: results from newton toc - 01/16/06 02:36 AM

i really didn't understand why the crowd was acting so badly towards norton. i think at that point Perry OK was the only team that could have caughten up to Norton in the team standings, so maybe they wanted an out-of-state team to win before a 3a team. it's pretty sad when Madden's little shove at the end got more of a negative crowd reaction than when Cole Garcia was racked in his finals match after the whistle.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/16/06 02:39 AM

Mr. Jennings,

This is Coach Ed and I'm Edison's father, as usual you don't have your facts correct. We don't post anything on this forum that pumps up our kids. If you profess something, please make sure you are correct. Also, if you were there you might have a different story to tell. That's all I have to say. Let the summer wrestling talk go for people who actually participate.

Thank you!

Re: results from newton toc - 01/16/06 06:55 PM

I agree. Norton deserves every bit of praise. They cleaned up in what I consider the toughest tournament in the state. I would take a quiet second day if it meant I had five in the finals any day. And winning Newton in back to back years is another great accomplishment. They wrestled great, won the close matches, and had a fan following that many schools could only hope for.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 01:44 PM

I did not mean that my following is bad. Bishop Carroll's following is great. I was referring to the teams who were booing Norton for no apparant reason except they wanted all the Norton guys to lose. We have great support which begs the question: is it the good teams who have a good support or is it good support that helps build a good team?

I don't think our program would be nearly as strong as it is if it wasn't for the great support we get from our parents, our former wrestlers and their families (many of who still come watch), and all the other supporters (like you ksbevo).

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 02:14 PM

Perhaps I missed something, but I did not recognize any widespread anti-Norton sentiment at the tournament. They quickly established themselves as the dominant team, with some terrific wrestling and great support from their fans. If there was any tendency towards cheering for their opponents, it's only because we tend to root for the underdog. On this weekend, every team wrestling Norton took on the underdog role.

The 119 lb match was an amazing performance by Aaron Ely. I don't know if Clay Madden has ever experienced such a one-sided loss in his wrestling career, and his frustration showed at the end. Madden is a class act, and his shove at the end of the match (there was no punch thrown) was not indicative of the type of wrestler that he is. I expect that we will never see that type of reaction from him again. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the crowd response was to the action at the end, not an anti-Newton display.
Posted By: JFinkeldei

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 02:53 PM

I hope you are right Mike. It may have been a rooting for the underdog mentality. I was so impressed by Norton I was just surprised to hear how loud the cheers were for all their opponents. (Although I was happy to hear it when Loos was wrestling them at 152.) But I guess had I been home to watch it I would have cheered against the New England Patriots only because I didn't want to see them win another Super Bowl.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 04:21 PM

Yo.

I like Norton. If Hat Town didn't win it, I'm glad that they did.

Also, is there any reason for Manhattan's performance? I didn't see any of the Wagners (we have like, 8) or Bubba in any of the results listed, can someone (Red?) let us know if we brought a full team?

Go Hat Town, win Beloit.

Go Norton, win...wherever you go next week.

Cwink's sister is hot. There, I said it.
Posted By: Ron James

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 04:40 PM

Prant I think some of the problem may have been a lack of preparation/focus from the manhattan team. Maybe not, but this is what coach Gonzales was quoted as saying the Manhattan mercury.

"This tournament was tougher than I anticipated," said Manhattan coach Robert Gonzales. "I was happy to place six out of our 14 wrestlers, that's how tough it was."
Posted By: parkwayred

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 05:06 PM

Lack of preparation was just part of it… Lack of a Wagner, Bubba, and size and maturity! This is not the Manhattan team of Old. This is a young bunch with a new coach and staff. There is allot of talent that needs to be shaped and polished. I don’t want to take anything away from the TOC of past years but I think that this tournament was extra tough this year! There weren’t the big names like before but the brackets were loaded top to bottom. Norton is the real deal they only took 10 of 14 weights and pretty much wrapped it up on Friday. I don’t care what anybody says about the finals… Coach Johnson and the Kids took care of business. Also Norton has the best fans in wrestling, half these guys don’t even have kids on the team!

P.S. How many other teams brought their radio station?

Re: results from newton toc - 01/17/06 06:29 PM

hey JFinkeldei - i think your onto something with the fan support vs quality programs thing. maybe they just go together like peas in a pod. I know we have great support here in Norton (for all sports and activities) and it helps keep the kids motivated when the going gets tuff. As for all the booing and cheering for the other guy, folks dont need to worry too much about it. Most of the kids are used to it and think its kinda funny. If you want to hear it get REALLY loud show up at the league tourny. Any bluejay that makes the finals there cant count on it being them vs the world.

Mike Juby, thanks for the post. I didn't think of it as the crowd rooting for the underdog, if that is what it was. It gave me a different persective of the final's now.
Parkwayred, thanks for the compliment. We at Norton appreciate it and I have to agree. Placing this year was tough. There were some awesome matches in the semi's and the next mornin was a dogfight to see who would place.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 04:59 AM

Just wanted to say Congrats to Norton for their great Tournament at Newton. I know Coach Johnson and the team would like to have wrestled a little better saturday, but they had an amazing Friday night. The electricity in the gym when they were on their role in the semis was awesome.

Congrats on winning the TOC 2x in a row! Good luck the rest of the year!

Prant- my sister could still kick your butt!

I’m sorry Billy if it sounded like I was making excuses… I felt that Prant asked a question and I gave a legitimate answer from my perspective. You have very little knowledge of what the Varsity lineup consist of and even less knowledge of the coaching staff. These comments were not intended for judgmental eyes. So bite me!

I am quite sure that Male Kann's sister, my daughter, would not "make out" with such as you. If you were trying to be funny 'Billy" it was a weak effort , rude and totally lacking in any redeeming value. An apology would be expected from a mature and responsible person, but an apology, no doubt, will not be forthcoming from you.

Yeah egg...I was going to say, I wouldnt expect an answer coming from someone such as Billy

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 09:52 PM

I do apologize because it was directed towards Kale, but it was very out of line. My bad and I apologize to Klaire too.

And Red, I only go by what the remaining varsity wrestlers tell me, including your son Mike, a coach and former wrestler under Woodford. My comments come straight from people who are on the team and involved with the team. I'm sorry that you're accepting this huge disappointment and I think that a few years ago you wouldn't have been making excuses. So go lose for me, I don't want your yellow teeth on me so I won't ask for the bite.

I apologize because I respect Kale and Klaire. I respect you as well Mr. Egg, but this apology is because of your family, not any other follower on the forum.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 10:26 PM

Transitions are tough, especially when someone follows a coach as good and as respected as Coach Woodford at Manhattan High School.

A lot of things had "grown up" around Coach Woodford during his long and successful tenure at Manhattan High School. He was the face of Manhattan wrestling and will be for a long time, maybe forever.

Coach Gonzalez knows what he is doing in regards to coaching; what he may not know is when something he does runs afoul of a Manhattan tradition, or less seriously, just an accepted way of doing things as in "that is not the way we have always done things."

Very often those who have fewer opportunities to have been other places (such as a high school wrestler who has wrestled in only one program) assume that every place does it the same way; nothing could be further from the truth! Every coach and program has things that are unique to them. Over time it is these unique things that grow up to be the traditions of the program.

The feeling of alienation will lessen with time, as those who wrestled under Coach Woodford are replaced by those who have not. Does this mean that Coach Woodford will be forgotten or become less important to the Manhattan wrestling tradition? No, he will continue to be respected and revered in Manhattan wrestling circles just as Jake Durham is still respected and revered as the coach-emeritus in Norton. In not too many years from now there will be wrestlers in the MHS wrestling room complaining about the way things are or are not being done by the new coach, because that was not the way Coach Gonzalez did them!

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 10:26 PM

billy,
All of us here in Manhattan are extremely disappointed in our showing at Newton. I think the coach is the easiest person to blame (especially since he is new to Manhattan) but he has been successful in the past. Our assistant coaches come from good programs and they know what it takes to be a winner. Travis Baker, our head assistant comes from a wrestling family. His dad is one of the most successful coaches in the history of Kansas wrestling. I believe if we give them a fair chance, our coaching staff will get us back to the top.
Second, it is almost as easy to blame the wrestlers. We did have some varsity kids missing at Newton and in some weights we are young but that should not be an excuse for the way we wrestled. I think our kids will step up and we will see a different team by the state tournament. As you mentioned, it's not the first time we had a poor tournament.
Third, I think our fans need to step up. We, the fans, should have been paying attention to the Norton fans and we should learn from them. On Sat., Norton fans were the first ones in the gym and they didn't have anyone wrestling until the second round. They all sit together, watch every match and are very supportive of their team. If you remember, our state championship year, all of our fans supported every wrestler on our team.
Chris, we are all upset with the results of the Newton tournament. I think with all of us pulling in the same direction, we will get this turned around before the state tournament.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 10:35 PM

Wow Mr. Tacha, that was all that I ever wanted to hear from anyone. I appreciate that explanation and I am only upset because I know that the kids there are good enough to be winning tournaments like that if other things work out.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/18/06 10:56 PM

Great post Mr. Tacha, I remember our championship year also, and the tremendous amount of support shown at the tournaments/duals. I believe that all great programs need great fan support. I remember Ark City in the 90's filling their entire section with purple and gold at the state tournament, and they still come close to filling it. With support like that I know the wrestlers could step it up. WRESTLE! WRESTLE! WRESTLE!

Re: results from newton toc - 01/19/06 05:11 AM

Chris-
Your apology is appreciated and accepted. Klaire is a great young lady, and does not need to be disrespected in any way. I on the otherhand don't mind a little bantering coming from you- as long as it is directed at me!

Also- don't worry too much- the Hat town program will be up soon enough. Like Egg, Red, and Mr. Tacha have said changing is tough, but those who adapt will be ok.

Klaire- good luck!

Chris,

Your apology is duly noted. Please keep in mind that what you post is read by people across the state. All most know about the people being posted about is what is being posted. Personal "inside" comments really have no place on this kind of forum.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/19/06 03:27 PM

15,
Thank you for the update!! Believe it or not, I still get the hometown paper but the tournament will be over before I get the results from the first game. Good luck Fri.
Also, I need to say thank you to you and your family for inviting me to sit with you at Wendys. You are a very impressive young lady with a very bright future.
By the way, a heel block and a near arm underhook works great for rebound positioning. If you and your opponent dive for a ball, look for the half nelson on the down. Now you know everything I know about BB.

Re: results from newton toc - 01/19/06 07:37 PM

My son wrestles on the varisty at MHS and he thinks Coach Gonzales is great! He also believes that Coach Woodford was an outstanding coach. He tells me that MHS wrestling has a lot of fire for the season and will do well. We have an excellent group of young men as assistant coaches with strong levels of experience that are very dedicated to helping the boys. Go Hat Town!
