Hey! Got ya. So Steves, just thought i'd start a thread for everyone to sound off in. Dec. 5th after SM East, official R.A.O.S. meeting to decide if we want to change poofy's name. So let me know if that's cool.

Nay, good sir. I say it stands. He still has much poofiness.

i say his name stands and my name is changed because this team has many people cutting weight this year and at that i demand a steve name change!!!

im not going to be the only skinny one this year...

Fellow Steves ..... as you all know, such weighty matters must be put to a quorum of the Royal and Ancient Order. Let each of our order who be in good standing, make his case before his comrades. We will then accept the decisions our body politick as honorable and binding. The campaign will be a long one, and we will prove the worth of our Free Company in battle. For myself, i believe the deeds of Poofy Steve will cause his name to find its way into the faint hearts of his opponents and set them to trembling as he casts aside the severed limbs of one after another on his journey to the final melee in the Coliseum.

Are we talking about Doug Thompson, because that guy had some poofy hair. Wrestling him was fun.

as a member of the R.A.O.S. council I too believe the names stands.....the title of each Steve must represent something that is significant in distinguishing them from others.....for I, the Psycho....everyone holds there own title....i feel the decision must still go before the council for a final decision....the question is though.....what is the new title....

Steves, the poofy ones name has been proposed to be changed to Sloppy Steve. This was proposed by fellow counsil member Party Boy Steve, and there is great meaning behind this. Poofy's disease caused great damage to that region, and Party Boy believes it has caused sloppiness. You will have to see for yourself steves. Well i hope u can all make it to the Land of the Orange shorts for the meeting.

I received several emails from Josh (who now wants to be known as Haji Steve) in Iraq while I was at home over Thanksgiving. He is OK but had a scare today as 5 mortar rounds hit his compound and "scared the piss out of me". He said he is receiving a decoration along with others in his unit for service in the assault on Fallujah. Josh said he is working out with any spare time he has and is muscling up to come home and bang some of you guys upside the head! He is supposed to be back in 3 1/2 months (late March or early April) and wrote about how important it was for him to be a part of our wrestling family and how he hopes we are keeping that part of our program alive. He asked for phone numbers so he could call us. I sent him mine and he called tonight. He would really appreciate it if Big Steve O and Angry Steve sent their numbers as well as any of the rest of you guys who know him. I think he would like to get emails from us too, kinda keep him updated on the season. So Steves, get on your computers and send your emails to kck_flamez@yahoo.com. Give him a holler and let him know how things are going and that we are proud of our Steve brother and can't wait for his safe return to Steveville. Indeed Superior Steve. I will e-mail Steve as soon as I can. As for the name change, i see no problem in having him become "Haji Steve" and a vote must be had at the next R.A.O.S. meeting this Sunday. The Land of the Orange shorts at 12:30 or 1:00 all Steves that can be present be there. We have a couple of name changes to discuss. Also we need to reinstate the NNFC before long. It has been too long since we have played. And our we going to invite any other schools (Hat Town possibly) to play this year? All this and more must be discussed.

After last night's skillful demonstration of much kinetic movement by Jose Cordero, I believe he is close to Steveville.

May the council consider and speak.

Most definately the counsel must gather and decide if Cordero is near Stevedom. I personally believe with his preformance last night dominating to the pin is worthy of Stevedom. So other high counsel members. Gather your thoughts and words. We must decide if Cordero will make the trip to Steveville. The Counsel has changed the meeting at the Land of the Orange Shorts from 12:30 on Sunday to 6:00 or so. I hope that all of you can get there. We will decide Cordero's level of Stevedom, Poofy's name change, as well as many other things.

I do believe that broke-*** steve sent the results to haji steve. I spoke very briefly with haji steve over the satellite phone yesterday. He wants to wish us good luck on our season.

Any mat news on Psychosteve?

I don't have any match news about Psycho Steve, but i heard from Hamburgler Steve that he is making the long journey from Nebraska home to Steveville today, and will be there tomorrow to root on the current Steves, and the Stuarts (the Steves of tomorrow) at Shawnee Mission East. Hopefully he will be in town long enough to join the counsel as we convene at The Land of the Orange Shorts on Sunday. Sorry Superior but that's all i've got. See ya tonight at practice.

Good game tonight Steves!

Based on the vote of members of the high council in attendance, Poofy remains Poofy. Names and initiation for new Steves were discussed. Nominations were made and an initiation protocol established. We began getting together our Christmas package for Haji Steve. Also discussed were the role of Steve in improving practices and organizing team social functions (with the approval of Big Steve O). Input on all these issues from current and alumni members is needed. For details consult Party Steve, Resurrection Steve, Hip Hop Steve, or Poofy Steve.

Congratulations on your dominance at East this weekend guys, you all looked great. I have a couple of comments/questions though. First off, where was Paulie? I didn't see him. Was he at a different weight and I didn't notice or did he graduate or what? Secondly, Poofy Steve made a little kid fall over and it was funny. Finally, my little brother beat your heavyweight and that is sweet. That brings the score to: Robinson Family 3 Turner 0.

Ha ha ha, just kidding, great tournament guys. I'm really excited to watch you all try and win Basehoor for Kansas. Good luck with your season.

Thanks for the good wishes LancerM ....... our little brother, Hamburgler Steve will be joining us at 103 after the holidays ...... as for Poofy, sometimes he doesn't watch where he is going ...... and kudos to your family for its wrestling prowess! ...... as for Basehor, we have a lot of work to do between now and then!

Hey Steves, I just wanted to congratulate Poofy Steve on his Honerable Mention All State line. You have represented Steveville well. And by the way, I think Hip Hop Steve or possibly it was Party Boy wants an emergency R.A.O.S. meeting to be set next Fri. I think that this is indeed a good idea, and I second the idea. So Superior Steve, do you think this to be acceptable? Also, Psycho, when are you coming back into town? I know your guys' christmas break has to be starting soon, and you have yet to be able to attend one of this years R.A.O.S. meetings!

Had to keep this at the top of the page. Good job this weekend Steves. It was truly an Iron Man's battle. Congrats to Party Boy Steve and Resurection Steve on their 1st place, and congrats to Poofy too. I can't believe his twin showed up at the tournament. But what are ya gonna do? Hamburgler Steve good job accomplishing such a great feat. Superior hit it right. There's now a monster lurking at 103. (I can feel the 03 pounders in state shaking as i type this). Psycho good luck making it to 165 you will be "dominant" there i'm sure. Also "Steves in training", there is a Steve night set up for Thursday's now, and this Friday there will be a meeting at the land of the orange shorts. Yes Psycho, good usage of "dominant". We Steves do try to be dominant, but sometimes people just don't like. The NNFC is doing OK, we played this weekend at LSN. Some guy from Camron didn't like the dominance Turner brings to Naked Frisbee, so he tried to fight Poofy. Too bad the guy was about 160lbs. and lookin for a death wish! Well we have a dual tomorrow, so Steves will try to rise up to the occasion. We will once again Dominate on Friday at the Land of the Orange Shorts. Hope you can get her Psycho. It will be later in the evening, i think we're going to watch a little of JOCO classic. (Not so dominant). And the Steves night is Thursday at Angry Steves house. It will be Poker and Movies this time. Of course I, Broke A** will be dominant at the table. All Steves need to be there if possible. Superior is there a good time to hold the R.A.O.S. meeting on Friday? So we can get our schedule set?

Okay you Stevieacs. I need a fix on Steve Andreas up in Manhattan. How is his freshman year going? Andreas -- if you are out there send me a note.

Big Steve is doing great… He is the number two guy behind a senior. He won a Varsity tournament in Wymore Nebraska… The next week he took third as a true Varsity wrestler at Highland Park. Off the top of my head I would say he is 3-1 as Varsity member and somewhere around 9-1 as a JV kid. He’s having a great year as Freshman HWT. And still smiles all the time.

I miss the Steves...

I moped about missing my brethren, plus I had to endure my wife telling me my hips are not dominant.

Ill give Schmale his props he is a dominant wrestler, and yes he did catch me. Another point is when ur airway gets cut off u tend to tap. As in the display i showed saturday night. But since u seem to like running ur mouth i give u a special invitation to get on the mat w/ me b/c now that a road has been cleared a new Bailes will be unleased, "the face" we talk about in the room will come out and another stupid mistake like saturday night will not happen again. Guarantee that. Steves its time to pick up the pace and intensity. good showing at the bobcat now lets focus on bigger tasks at hand.

Well i was going to ignore the smack talking done by John, but i guess i'll throw my two cents in. I have wrestled with Resurrection Steve for the past 2 1/2 years, and i don't know too many guys who are as tuff as him. As a two time state finalist and a greco roman All-American you can't question that. And even more props to you Steve for the class you showed after your match with Schmale. Says a lot about you man. John i would like to invite you to enjoy something me and the rest of the steves call a cowboy anytime!

Yes the package was sent. Had to send it to california then they'll forward it to him in Iraq. I dont think he has recieved it yet though. It may be some time before he gets it.

ya know ......... a recent visitor to the RAOS thread offered a post that implied our remarks were trivial and/or insignificant ....... so, I have decided to bring things back to reality and talk about a subject all wrestlers can get their teeth into ...... food ....... here it is .......... what's the absolute best breakfast cereal in the world? ........ when I was wrestling in college, I was a freak for Captain Crunch ....... as of late, and in that glorious time of life when I don't have to pull weight, I have come to prefer Count Chocula ....... and does anyone really eat Wheaties?

I gotta go with Golden Grahams on this one. Cinnamon Toast Crunch is most delicious too.

I think im gonna have to go with Fruity Pebbles followed closely by Lucky Charms.....both are very delicious

Nobody eats Wheaties ...... so why the big deal about being onthe box? ..... and do any cereals still come with toys inside? ...... who used to cut the baseball cards off the back of the box when it was empty?

I have to agree with Resurrection Steve on this one. Fruity Pebbles is probably my favorite too! But i really like the Cinnamin Toast Crunch. But now i have a question. Since I'm broke (check the name!) i have to buy the cheap stuff in the bags. How many people really think the stuff in the box tastes better? I mean really you got to love the bags of cereal. I could probably eat a whole bag after cutting weight!!! LOL

Oh yeah i forgot that i remember a box of Honey Nut Cherrios that came with Disney Bobble Heads. I think i still have the Micky! lol And one more thing to say. I thought one time i was going to be on the weaties box. After i set the world record for the largest tower of tinker toys on record. Too bad they never called me back!!!

Steves, please forgive me for not responding to this topic. I do not want you to think for a moment that cereal is not of the utmost importance to me and my Hat Town brethren. I assure you: it is. The reason for my absence on such an important topic is because I've been hobknobbing with high-faluting state legislators in NY so they don't cut the tuition aid to poor Steves east of the Mississippi. (Cutting tuition for poor people is certainly not dominant.)

As for the more important issue, cereal, I must say that it is too much to contemplate for one simple post. Boxes of cereal which I enjoy include:

Indeed Superior i believe we have taken our skills somewhat for granted. We have played a couple of times but practice we have not. No other team has wanted to play so far this year, and so again it looks like the field will be small this year at the 2nd annual NNFC State Tournament. I hope the guys from Hat Town will play this year. It kind of sucks when you get defaulted into the national tournament. Any other teams interested in participating need not apply just show up and you're in! What do ya say Hat Town? GAME ON!

I think you can read about Stephen in The book of Acts, The Apostle Paul started out kinda on the wrong track, his name was originally Saul, he was a henchman of the pre- crucifixion jewish faith, they saw the early followers of Christ as a general bunch of outlaws and Saul was one of the leaders of the group that decided to do away with as many of them as possible. One of their leaders was STEPHAN, who stood up for his beliefs in a trial and was stoned for his trouble. The early Christian movement was a lot like Eastern Kansas Wrestling-- the establishment sold them short and beat on 'em as they were developing, but once some of the early leaders got them started, they became very powerful. Probably a lesson in there that could be further developed, but hey, I am a recovering Western apostle and would not do the comparison the justice it deserves. a couple more steves that come to my ancient recollection are Stephan Crane, an early American author, wrote the civil war classic "the red badge of courage" (not recommended-- they will never make a movie of that one) And Stephen Foster, a popular songwriter in the late nineteenth century. These would be minor steves but notable
nontheless.

By the way- on note of preparation... George S. Patton once said that true warriors develop in the quiet before battle , or something to that effect... I saw it in a Famous Quotation book that I had when I was in high school, and put it on a library card and kept it in my locker. Helped me to get ready. One of my greatest moments in life was being with one of your fellow Steves the day before "He" journeyed to the land of great warriors. Talks of mental and physical endurance, for the great games of grappling, seemed like confection for us both. We fell a little bit short of our goal, but it has been a good season by any other standard ...... we weathered several losses during the year but still brought the Basehor title back to Kansas and brought home a trophy from state! ...... to the seniors, we're sure gonna miss you guys ...... and will always be proud of you!

To the Steves--It may not have ended as you had liked, but it is often said that it is the trip and not the destination. Enjoyed my visit with Papa at State and the good, decent folks of Steveville. There are a lot of teams that could learn from the teamwork and closeness of this family. Good Game!!

fris ...... most of us will eat ..... and wrestle ..... and then eat some more ...... and then train for wrestling .......... and then eat some more .......and then travel somewhere to do some more wrestling ....... and practice for the world championship of naked frisbee ..... and then eat some more ...... then host the world championship of naked frisbee ..... then eat some more ...... and then some will play football and others will play rugby ...... then eat some more ...... try to watch summer sunrises while eating Dominant Toasties (new and improved brand fortified with something nutritious due out next year) ...... watch the sunset with a babe worthy of our attentioin ..... then eat some more ....... a few rounds of golf and a few concerts to break things up ..... then back to wrestling and pretty soon after that ...... not eating again ...... some will work on their hobbies (like auto-mechanics and eating) ...... Angry Steve will put many to work remodeling his house and landscaping his yard ...... a couple of us will take several trips to Hat Town for golf, football clinics, rugby and Auntie Maes to see Jeff and Bro ........ a daily check of the forum except when we're off on safari ...... we'll welcome home Haji Steve from Iraq with a big party and welcome back our alums who are on vacation from college ....... we'll have to give some serious thought to Steve names for the upcoming group of newbies ...... basically try to look at the sky more than our feet for a while ...... and eat ...... and wrestle ..... and play frisbee ...... actually some pretty simple stuff ..... have any suggestions to liven up the off-season?

PAPA, you are a friend. The love of a father is unconditional and yours is very apparent. I trust your children realize how blessed they truly are. Enjoyed our short time together because it was all about family. Win, lose or draw...the victory is always in competing, regardless of the outcome. We both share that conviction...with all of our children. As my youngest son is a Senior, the brackets have been passed along to any and all who can benefit from them. They were created as a tribute to both of my sons for making it to State. They reside on paper, but the origin was all about respect and love. I spoke to Haji Steve Tuesday. He should be back in CA on Monday 3/21, and headed to KC 4/9. Will be home for 4 weeks, the back to Pendleton.

How do I become a Steve?

Shoes .... the usual induction goes like this: Steve inductees must go to headquarters (land of orange shorts) and sit for two hours wearing the following: singlet (over regular clothes, headgear and Steve glasses) ...... the new inductee(s) may not speak except to order cole-slaw and water ..... the inductee(s) must sit by themselves apart from Steve members who are there as witnesses ...... or you could apply for special dispensation and associate membership based on your contribution to the sport of wrestling, which is the purpose of Stevedom, "to attain and promote excellence in the sport of wrestling". Steveville is in KC, but our alums have established affiliate branches elsewhere. Looks like we may be having a RAOS meeting at headquarters tomorrow!

Hey guys ..... an idea was brought to me about making a "Steve" movie ..... whadya think? ...... Would this be a documentary, a comedy, an action film? ..... could we keep it to a PG-13 rating? Should we get Michael Moore or Quentin Tarantino to direct?

Are we thinking more the kind of Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" type of film? ...... we usually have enough blood on the mat for that ...... how about a title? ...... if it's not a documentary, who would play each of us? ...... also, we can't ignore Scorcese or Lucas as possibilities either ..... I think Big Steve O would probably want more of a "Kung Fu" type Steve Movie ..... you know, philosopher/warrior on a journey through life, kicking all the bad guys' behinds and overcoming all kinds of obstacles while searching for truth type of thing ........

Because of the diverse and creative minds in Steveville, your zest for life and your team unity...this movie would have to exploit your free spiritedness (hope that's a word). But to truly demonstrate the Tao of Steve, there needs to be a section, somewhat documentary style, allowing each Steve to portray himself to his liking. The finale can be a "The Right Stuff" style entry, with the family Steve entering the arena (of choice) with highlights of mat action, culminated by the hoisting of the hardware. A top shelf narrator, with a style similar to John Facenda or, better yet, Walter Cronkite to chronicle the achievements with action footage. I would think a little something for everyone, but also something to be proud of as the years go by.

Hey guys ... ya know, this could be fun! ...... so write your responses to the ANTI-RAOS thread here on our own ....... so far, I can respond to those on the other thread by saying that we have always encouraged and invited all forum users to post on our thread ...... and many have! ...... some coaches, some wrestlers, some parents or grandparents, fans and suporters of Steveville and many other wrestling programs throughout the state ...... we appreciate them all, and all will continue to be welcome here ....... so far, with the exception of Curtis' idea, the NRAOS thread sounds like a sour grapes whine-tasting convention ...... hopefully they will find a more productive direction to take ...... a sincere good luck to NRAOS!

i find this very humoring....because we now have more anti-R.A.O.S supporters....i find this funny because they didn't learn from the past....there were many last year and we laughed in there face as we took the title, and almost took it again this year but there were elegability problems w/ some of the team which kept 1 out of the big tourny....but we still laughed in their faces because in our hearts we knew we won....and people say we are bad people when we try to make all welcome and they reject and they tell them selves we did not...that we just turned our backs on them....they r the bad people 4 making a desicion and blaming us when they got what they didn't like or want

Superiorsteve--That is an excellent point. At Blue Valley, all of the coaches are alums (of Blue Valley) and are giving back to the program through their coaching. This is a great compliment to them as coaches, but also as adults, giving back to the kids. Coaching isn't done because of the pay...we can all learn a lesson from giving back. It has such great rewards.

chewbacca asks a good question ....... other than the steves playing baseball and wrestling, what are the rest of you guys doing? ......... don't mind if your chasing girls as long as they are going on a five mile run every morning and you're following ............ on foot ................ better yet, I want each of you to submit your spring training schedule by Sunday ......... otherwise, we're gonna have to put the RAOS Fat and Lazy Patrol (headed by Angry Steve) on your trail .......... all spring and summer activities must incorporate cardio and/or strength training ........... for example, fishing is fine .......... as long as you swim out to the middle, drop your line, and swim back ............. instead of "reeling in the big one", anchor your rig and swim out to do battle with the thing ......... whomp it good and wrestle it back to shore ................... skiing is fine as long as you're using a rowboat and you take at least one turn towing another skier ........... I'm sure Big Steve O has a Spring and Summer training manual with all this stuff in it, so be sure to check with him before planning your summer vacation ......... on another note, Psycho once said he'd set up a paintball war for us .......... I've never done it .......... but I think it's a good idea as long as there is some pain involved in getting hit!

the paintball thing will be arranged this summer...as soon as i find the rest of my guns....i will post my regimne first....weight training five days a week....5-10 mile run three days a week...probably tuesday, thurday, and sunday...wrestling at least 2-3 times a week....mon, weds, fri...probably do some fishing on the weekends....also runnin hills.....doin plyos....and whatever else i can think of to whip this fat body back into shape after a long drinking...i mean off-season....how 'bout the rest of you...post em up....

Guess who's back??? Back again??? lol well it's been awhile since I've been on here. Been busy playing ball and trying to figure out what i'm going to do with myself in the future... It's nice to see the creation of the R.A.O.S. thread is bringing the wrestling community together. When orginally created it was to keep us Steves together on the forums cluttered with talks of who is better than who and who is going to win what. We don't like to boast, brag, or stipulate about such things so to keep people from commenting i created this thread just for us. At the time i didn't know it would become what it has. As the creator of this thread, all comers are welcome. This Anti-Steve business is humorous to me, and i hope that the creator of that thread has created it in good nature of a laugh. I have been absent from this online message bored for many reasons some of them personal. But to my fellow steves i'd like to ask if it was ok to return at the carwash. I know that there are some hard feelings between some of the steves over certain events that i certainly wished would not have happened. But seeing this thread reminds me of what i have missed since March. Angry if you get on here i'll be calling you within a week and i'll probably be coming by for a visit. man i guess no one is ever on this thread during the weekend....i think we pissed angry and canadian steve off when we pummeled them at canadian horseshoes saturday superior.....for u that don't know what canadian horseshoes is its kinda like horseshoes but a little different....u put 2 narrow pieces of pvc pipe in the ground opposite each other and u balance a bottle on it....u then take a frisbee and attempt to knock off ur opponent's bottle....i ur opponent doesn't catch the frisbee u get one point....if u knock the bottle off the pipe and its not caught its four points if they still catch the frisbee and five is the don't catch the bottle or frisbee....first to 21 wins....and i forgot u can only use one had to catch the frisbee and/or the bottle....and u can't block the pipe u gotta stay behind it....thats y angry and canadian steve got beat so bad....who all is going to the midnight showings of star wars on thursday

Metro Area schools named 4 wrestlers for their respective schools as Scholar Athletes of the Year. That is very impressive!

Sounds like the off-season is treating everyone well in Steveville. Like the idea of flying under the radar, served us well in the Middle East. Back from Holton and Netawaka ...... decorating graves and paying my respects to family and fiends no longer here always gives me pause ..... to think about things .......... on a brighter note, great car show in Holton! ...... it's always fun on the square during Memorial weekend ....... they had a booth where you fire water ballons at each other using catapults ........ it was called Water Wars ....... i think we should look into it for Turner Days or the next Spring Fling fundraiser! ...... to answer MAW's question, come to Steveville and wrestle or coach wrestling ...... that's how to become a Steve ....... as stated before, the purpose of RAOS is to promote excellence in the sport of wrestling (yes, it does give us an excuse to have meetings at the land of orange shorts) ...... the thread was created to help us keep in touch with our fellow Steves, our supporters and the Kansas wrestling community where we have made many great friends ......... it was intended to have fun trading thoughts about wrestling and whatever else crosses our minds ....... that's why we enjoy talking with wrestlers, coaches and wrestling fans from all over the state ...... as for a Steve name ....... I guess anyone is free to adopt a Steve name ..... it's kinda flattering and we would only hope that the heart and desire of a true wrestler accompanied the person choosing to be a Steve ....... in Steveville, names are earned by deeds ...... and confirmed by Steves ....... we haven't talked about it as a group, but if others around the state want to start their own RAOS chapters ........ my guess is that we would give our blessing and any help they asked for ....... might be fun!

I believe you would know, had you read my earlier post, that RAOS is not a club ...... it is an organization formed to promote excellence in wrestling ....... but you may call it anything you like ....... I'm not certain what MAW is talking about regarding his NRAOS name ....... as far as we're concerned, call yourself whatever you want, and support whomever you wish ....... we all have friends on wrestling teams throughout the state and we support them and their programs ...... our main interest is in advancing the level of Kansas Wrestling and we attemp to do that by working to build a strong program in Steveville ........ we know others are doing the same in their communities ........ are we an "exclusive" organization ....... if by that you are asking whether or not it is our intent to exclude people from RAOS, the answer is no .......... if you are asking whether or not people wanting to be RAOS members have dues to pay ..... you bet! .......... and I can only think of a few thousand other organizations which require the same .........

This week is the 25th Anniversary on the death of Steve McQueen, and they are running a show on the Turner Classics Network (I think that is the network) called Steve McQueen, the Essence of Being Cool. Now this special looks to have some age to it, so many of you may have seen it already. But those who have not, this is absolutely required viewing for anyone who resides in Steveville or carries a Steve name (or for anybody else that has a pulse). This is worth watching, if you like fast cars, women, a zest for life, love of family and lots of motorcycles.

Good Catch, Superiorsteve...didn't notice that at first, but how appropriate. Uncle Ted always takes care of his own...good stuff. They have been showing all of his movies this week, as well. Last night, they had The Great Escape, The Cincinnati Kid and many others. The special is well worth the watch...especially for those of us old enough to remember when his movies were first released.

Another piece of trivia (just learned this last night)...In the movie "The Great Escape", Steve McQueen did all of his own riding and stunts (with the exception of jumping the fence near the end of the movie). He also did the riding in the scenes where the Germans were chasing him on motorcycles. They said he was filmed as Hilts on his shots, park the bike, change into German uniform and then proceed with the shots of McQueen chasing McQueen. Good Stuff!!

Agree with Randy, taking care of family shows character. Also know that the Steve family will support BlueCollarsteve every step of the way.

Bracket-man ....... excellent research! ....... there is a documentary on the making of The Great Escape which is riveting ........ it actually has interviews with some of the men who participated in the escape and takes them back to the actual site ...... the tunnels had been excavated and it was amazing what these vets could recall ........ as for BlueCollar steve ...... he has really worked hard wrestling several events and training whenever he could ...... I sure hate to see him miss this opportunity ....... but you and Randy got it right ..... he's a young man of good character ..... family first.

Would like to see the documentary you are talking about. Stories from actual participants are usually interesting and often times chilling.

Sounds like BlueCollarsteve is going to be a keeper and continue the tradition started by Psycho, Haji, Caleb and the rest of the troops. He will certainly have the best coaching a person could ask for. I know he is in good hands.

Roadwork and the weight room...don't know about the 4 or 5 inches, but these young men grow up right before our eyes. It is amazing the growth spurts they experience. They go from kids to young men (and the pounds come with it) almost instantly. You will find a place for any hard worker, better yet, he will make his place by his hard work. It's all good, isn't it?

Absolutely ..... and he's one of those kids that is so coachable ..... he understands that we will work him harder than he wants to work ..... and he'll step it up because he understands that to compete (and I mean compete), you have to train your body and mind ...... practice doesn't really begin until you're exhausted ..... after that, we see who is really training to be a champion!

glad to see that you stevens are back on the path of making a large amount of posts. keep busy in the summer so that you may be dominate next winter and keep spreading the good word of stevedom.

wow its been awhile....since the last time i posted some things have changed....grad, my dad got a new (new to us) '32 ford roadster, its sweet....u ought u come by and see it superior and take a ride....started work at the city in the police garage again....and tally is now bluecollarsteve, but he's note funny like the other Blue Collar boys, u know larry, jeff, ron, and bill (i listed their names for the slower people like tally)....anyway for those of u that have never served for jury duty don't do it....it sucks....that was probly the most boring 5 hours of my life and i only got paid $10 and some change....i could have made more doing nothing a the rec. office....well its good to be back

Superiorsteve...thought I would let you know that the Steve McQueen documentary "The Essence of Cool" premiered on Turner Classics Network on Wednesday, it was also shown last night. Not sure how many more times it will be shown, as last week was the 25th Anniversary of his death. Just an FYI in case they do not plan on showing any more and you would like to get the ol' VCR fired up soon. It is an excellent watch and truly in the theme of Steveville. I think I may have stumbled on to a new training regimen last night ....... a buddy and I bailed approximately 600 gallons of water out of our baasement window as it streamed in during last night's rainstorms ...... we were getting about 5 gallons every 90 second ...... had to tote and empty the full water bucket in time empty the bucket that was filling ....... good strength and cardio workout ....... a bit long though ...... worked out from midnight to about 5 am ....... maybe have to keep training and get in one of those old farts tournaments!

I'm okay with the airsoft thing ..... although I really had my heart set on paintball (since I've never done it before) ...... I just keep having this vision of stalking Psycho and takin' him out ..... my biggest fear would be Big Steve O ..... he's sneaky and could set a good ambush ...... no worries on Angrysteve ..... he'd break cover and charge right at you firing as he came ..... easy target! ...... Hamburglar would be a worry too ....... how can you hit something that small and quick? ....... you big slow guys would be meat!

Cpt. i know that i am still bigger than you and your jealous of my good looks but you are right superior is jealous of your hair... and to superior paintball or air soft sounds fun but it doesnt matter to me i think hamburgalur would be a threat to us fatter ones.. but if we aim low we can take him out.... just aim about 2 inches off the ground and you should get himor set up a trap with a hamburger underneath and he should take the bait then we pull the string and we got'em.... the ol' rabbit trick....

I've been practicing my "hit and roll" technique to avoid getting hit ...... but I need to learn the camo thing ...... I'm a little bigger than I used to be and can't hide behind a blade of grass like I could back in the day ....... I need to get some of that face paint to put on the top of my head ..... other than that, I'm a crack shot (or was back when I took gun safety in 4-H)

And finally ........ before retiring for the evening ..... I saw Sweet Roll browsing on the forum tonight ....... and rumors (I say rumors, mind you) have it that he is getting BIG ...... so I'm asking the man himself ...... Sweet Roll, how big are you? ....... and is this bigness that will have to be run off after football? ..... or the lean stuff from running and being in the weight room? ...... are you getting Poofy-sized?

Not quite to Poofy's size yet but I could be up there in a couple of months. I just weighed at 188. The highest I've been was somewhere around 195, but since weights started I've been trimming down.

Mike, apparently that MAYB camp filled gyms in Newton, Halstead, and Hesston ....... great idea having a mega-camp like that ...... I guess they tried to get one of the buildings at the Newton outlet mall to serve as the venue, but this didn't work out for some reason ....... wish they'd all been youth wrestlers ....... might be fun to do a mega-wrestling camp at several venues concurrently ...... I guess the problem in this area has been finding motel space for everyone ..... I love storms but driving around the area and looking at lakes that were fields a few days ago is kinda sad ...... gotta pray for things to dry out pretty quickly so farmers can get back in the fields ..... hope the damage to harvest is minimal .....

I know what you mean! ...... in Manhappy, we had "Vern's" ...... they didn't open until about 10:00 at night and worked all night to have fresh donuts by morning ......... there were lines of us waiting for donuts after Aggieville closed ..... of course, on a few occasions, I did visit Daylight Donuts in Newton after being Legal Tenderized ....

I watched the battle of the grdiron allstars play dodgeball tonight on espn and it was wicked! ALso, have you guys quit playing naked frisbee? and how can I get one of those orange t-shirts you guys wore at state? this is my first time on the forum so I have to ask what is the nraos thing about?

Captain ....... both you and Angry are working at the Rec ...... start putting together the particulars and let's see what we have ...... do we make it an open, or only invite wrestling teams? ..... what's a fair entrance fee? ...... do we have any dodgeball officials around or would we have to put an add in Obscure Sports Quarterly? Psycho could work on the logistics of the Paintball Wars ..... is there a time for each that wouldn't conflict with training, wrestling and camps?

Just don't do it on the fourth of july weekend and what size balls do u use? r there regulation dodgeballs or would u just use volleyballs like we do in p.e.?

ok my uncle explained to me whut the clash is. He said it it was a really tough tournament and even good kansas teams would get killed up ther. He's werestled in Pennsylvania and was pretty good is guess back in the day. I think u should do it anyway and jsut try it to see how u stack up!

Unfortunately, there are too many restrictions placed on KS teams by way of KSHSAA...but pretty cool nonetheless...

Mike, according to Mapquest, it's about 425 miles from THS to Rochester, MN ........ so, we in KC should be within the 500 mile limit ....... I wish it were the same for other Kansas schools ....... IBP, with all due respect to your uncle, I believe there are several Kansas teams that would acquit themselves well at The Clash ...... nevertheless, the point of going would be to wrestle some of the best high school teams in the nation ........ every team comes away from this tournament bloodied ...... but even a beat-down at a prestigious tournament would make most teams tougher when they returned home to battle their in-state foes ...... I take from your other posts that you know something about our team and may be moving to Kansas City ...... if wrestling is your sport, you have an open invitation to join our program ....... we try to wrestle tough competition every year here in Steveville

I know $$$ is a big consideration for a trip like this ....... but, in a perfect world, I'd love to send about a dozen Kansas teams up there to see (as the kid put it) "how we stack up"!

I agree with you Mike ........ and just off the top of my head I would think at least 15 teams would do well this year at The Clash .... maybe no top 10 team finishes ...... but would represent the state well ....... the ones that came first to mind are (in alphabetical order so as to not offend anyone): Abilene, Andale, Ark City, Bishop Carroll, Clay Center, Derby, Goodland, Hutch, Maize, Manhattan, Norton, Oakley, St. Francis, STA, Turner. If you'd like to make any modifications to the list, let er' rip! ....... this was just my initial reaction ...... I don't really know of the relative strength of some of the programs for the upcoming year.

OK Captain ...... you do the research and I'll take care of the purchase ....... there could be lots of uses for dodgeball ...... maybe we could give guys who have to wrestle a "cowboy" the option of that or going one against the team in dodgeball ..... or maybe we could use dodgeball to teach some of our statues to move their feet and lower their level ...... probably would help them get their hands out front too ....... there is the option of doing it at the end of practice as a cool-down as well ...... the ideas just keep coming!

Well, just got home ........ been with Canadiansteve ....... for those of you that don't know, he took a hockey stick in the eye and can't see out of it ...... it's been a couple weeks already and they're still not sure what's wrong with it or if he'll get his vision back ...... they seem to think that it could be a number of things but that doesn't change the fact that he is operating with one good eye ...... he can play golf fairly well but I've been driving him when we go places ..... he's going back in a couple more weeks and hopefully they will fix him ....... so heis definately out of the dodgeball thing ...... maybe we could use him as an official ..... shouldn't take more than one good eye for that ....... as for the tournament ..... are we keeping it all-wrestling teams or an open? ...... would be fun to see some of the forum personalities get deadlined by a guided missile to the (choose your body part)!

Just to set the record straight, some parents have not begun planning the dodgeball tourney. I have seen it posted for months and noticed superior had been asking a couple of people to talk to TRC. I asked if had been brought up yet and was told it had not. I asked if they would allow us to have one and they were excited and the fundraising opertunity. The open date was August 13. I asked Camille to pencil the tourney in until I could let you guys know TRC was OK with it.

Just trying to get the "ball rolling" if it was something you wanted to make happen

With a name like "Steve" "Patton"...you HAVE to go, the bar is certainly raised to its proper height. Noticed Midwest City, OK on the list...my alma mater. One of the top 10 wrestling schools in Oklahoma. Sounds like a good challenge and great experience...besides you would know where your wrestlers would be for New Year's. Could also re-visit the car wash fund raiser to assist with the costs. Sounds too good to pass up.

I agree, Bracket-man ....... and especially the part about the carwash ........ my vehicle is filthy! ......... I'm sure Big Steve O will give it his best shot a getting permission for us to go ...... we can probably earn the money for the trip this summer ...... just have to hope our admin. sees the importance of participating in a tournament of this calibre and gives us the green light ...... you should team up with PAPA and get a "Legends" dodgeball team together for the tournament!

With this weather, I think I will ask PAPA if we can sit atop the Dunk Tank for charity funding...but I'm game if the Big Man is. It's all good, isn't it? What a great opportunity for the team to participate in such a studly event. Let me know when you folks set a date and we are there.

Come one, Dodge all. It's time for the main event of the summer. My fellow Steve's and other forum friends and personalities, we have the confirmation on the dodgeball tournament. How much does it cost per team and do all the people on my team have to be wrestlers? And how many games will we get to play.

I should have asked Angrysteve when he was here ....... but I beleieve the entry fee is going to be $100 per team ....... from the sounds of it, lunch will be free along with team pictures and some other perks .......... my guess is that you will have at least three matches since it is bracketed ..... they were talking about having an actual challenge match for second place if the third place team had not already played the runner -up ....... either way, I'm in.

How about like a team made up of you family? I have two older brothers and my dad and my uncle and we could probably fine another to play but not all were wrestlers.

After letting Mr. Patton know some of our issues with attending this event, he replied with some interesting tidbits about rules from other schools and how they are trying hard to help schools participate:

Thank you for your reply Coach Sierant. It's amazing how hard state associations work to keep teams from competing, but we will certainly do everything we can to help you with the process.

First, the tournament is sanctioned by the National Federation of High Schools along with each of the states with participating teams. You can check the NFHS website to see the past sanctioning: http://www.nfhs.org/scriptcontent/Va_custom/SanctioningEvents/Index.cfm?EventID=2444 . About a month before the tournament, we get a list of restrictions from each of the participating states to which we have to comply. For example, Iowa teams may only receive paper awards individually and may not receive trophies. We work through all the restrictions and make sure that our tournament is in compliance. Technically the tournament is hosted by one of the participating schools, although a large group of volunteers (incorporated as a 503(b) non-profit organization) actually run the tournament. Excess proceeds from the tournament go to various charities. In fact, this week, we will be presenting a new laptop to a veteran of the war in Iraq who wrestled in the Clash in 2003. He was severely injured and is receiving the purple heart at his high school this Thursday.

Secondly, we move the tournament around periodically to help with the various restrictions states impose on traveling. Some states can only travel over the holidays and some are explicitly prohibited from traveling between Christmas and New Years. The dates for the next four Clash tournaments are:

2005/2006 - Clash IV, Dec 30-31, 2005
2006/2007 – Clash V, Dec 29-30, 2006
2007/2008 – Clash VI, Jan 4-5, 2008
2008/2009 – Clash VII, Jan 2-3, 2009

Regarding the mileage, that is another one that we run into each year. Strangely, there are some teams in Iowa that may participate while others, a few miles further away are prohibited from participating. Missouri also has a similar restriction. However, Oak Park High School came up two years ago from Missouri to watch and practice with some of the teams, but was not allowed to participate because of the distance. Seems strange to me. As you may have noticed, we have teams from California to New York so somehow teams are finding the time to get here. We had a team from Virginia come last year that chartered a bus. They took off one evening and arrived the next morning. Seemed to work out pretty good.

Another hurdle teams run into is fund-raising for the trip. I would not think that you would have airfare, so your main expense would be lodging. Hotels are very reasonable here ($69 for quadruple occupancy at a 4-star hotel) so expenses seem to be manageable. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help with the process. We'd love to see the state of Kansas represented at this fun tournament.

Superiorsteve - As much as Randy and I would be honored and thrilled to perform the National Anthem for the Dodgeball Tournament, we have been graciously relieved by Lil Sharpe. She is willing to send a tape of her rendition of the anthem for the tournament (see entry under "Last post for awhile"). I think it adds a great wrestling touch, as she was the young lady who performed the anthem at State this year. Randy and I will graciously hum in the background to avoid any flying vegatables our way. Lil Sharpe was asking for an address, so she could send the tape.

... and veggies are fine ... as long as there fresh! Throw the soft ones gently at me and the items like roast-n-ears and squash at Bracket.

Superiorsteve - There are many things to be saddened about, but missing out on our singing should be mighty low on the list. If the tape thing don't work out, I will gladly pay my respects to our great country by singing the National Anthem. However, I am confident (and glad) that Ms. Sharpe is helping with this chore.
I have talked to several folks in my area of the world about getting a team together...maybe this will work out, but kids and summer make a bad combination for results. I'm still up for the dunk tank, if you need volunteers. See you soon!!

Bracketman, I am sorry the boys down your way are having difficulty gettin a team together ..... but I understand ...... we were hoping to get a team from the BV area ...... and even though I am on a team, my hope is that it will not be necessary for me to play ..... I plan on doing the Patches O'Houlihan thing ...... just have to scrounge around and find an old flight jacket and get my wheel chair out of the trunk ...... hey, that's it! ....... next year, we can host a Murderball Tournament!

Superiorsteve - I may have spoken too soon...it appears that there may be a spark of interest from BV way to participate in the tournament. Will register properly if I can get 6 youths to commit during the dog days of summer. If it works out, I could be their "Patches O'Houlihan" (I was thinking of using the handle, "Buck Naked") and the game will truly be on! Actually, the thought of helping out with funds for your team was of interest to them...good stuff! We may be the weakest wrestling class, but have the biggest hearts.

Hansen - First, congratulations to the Hamburglar on a great season (and those to follow)! He is a joy to watch compete on the mat.

We are trying to get a team together from BV and have given the participants a Monday (August 1) deadline, so we can get the paperwork to you. But with summer, baseball, etc., I am not sure we are going to make it. Is my word good enough to allow for them to compete?? I will take full responsibility for the fees, paperwork, etc. AND if they do not come through, I will pay the entry fee myself.

Fax the registration in by Friday. We are bracketing Friday night. We are also putting the packets together for the teams to get to the captains. There are a few perks. Lunch and a nice reminder of Steveville (a frisbee shh!) for everyone on the roster as of Friday, August 5. you have all the releases by then fax them also, if not as long as we have them by the following Wednesday we'll be good.
Our main concern is getting the registration and roster by Friday for bracketing. Then we have a few days to get the releases in. They have to be in hand before TRC will allow the kids to compete.

We would love to see you. If you need anything or have any questions my number is on the flier, just give me a call.

I see the Dirty Penguins are already tryring to intimidate the rest of us by allowing their roster to be posted ....... hah! ...... this just makes it easier to plan our strategy ...... the Shockers lineup will remain a mystery until we hit the floor!

There is a very special family atmosphere when in the Land of the Golden Bear. Spent some time with Camille at the Rec Center this morning and the care of the kids, family, friends and visitors to Steveville is the first priority with everyone you meet. What all of you have done for my family and me during the end of last season could never be repaid. Many friendships have been forged over the years and none more special than the Steves. What a day! ........ so many great memories from the Steveville Open today .......... where to start ?

Amen! Just where do you start...this was one of the most organized fund-raisers and afternoon of fun a person could have never planned for. The spirit of Steveville is a model that all others should examine. The kids talked about the day all the way home, can't wait for the next opportunity and made me swear to come back at Christmas for more. If I start a list of the people who made this happen, I would surely leave someone out and I would not want to disrespect them...but know how special the day was for all of us from Blue Valley. We have made a great number of friends in Steveville over the years and we shall never forget any of you. From the raffle, the opening ceremony walk-in, the challenge matches, the good hearted ribbing, the healthy competition, it was just the complete package. Thank you just doesn't seem like it is enough...we were treated just like family and felt right at home. To Superior, Angry, Big O, Canadian, Psycho, PartyBoy, Alien, BMOCPAPA, To Camille, Tracey and Denise, all of the parents, friends, athletes-past, present and future...thanks for everything! I, like Superiorsteve, have no idea where to start...but I was hoping it would never end. Great Game!!

Thanks Bracket-Man .... it was certainly a pleasure having you with us ...... the young men from Blue Valley sure acquitted themselves well as athletes and sportsmen ..... they were the first up when the call went out to substitute for a team whose members were late getting back for one of the rounds .... they were on the court playing with the kids during the intermission ..... and a couple played on the all-star team vs the cheaters ..... I mean Shockers who won the tourney ..... we will certaily miss you ..... thanks for your support of wrestling and your friendship!

Would like to add Cathy Smith to Bracket-man's list of people who made this a great event .... also Mindy Suceda and Mikaeli ..... and Joey Gutierrez for the shirts and Greg Best for printing ..... lil sharpe for sending her tape of the national anthem ..... oh and good game to Tard from 98.9 The Rock for driving all night from Sturgis to round up the Death Car Karate Monkeys and get them to the tournament ....... there were a host of others who helped us set things up, distribute prizes, run concession and clean up ....... thanks to all for a great day ........ aside from that, the only problems were the blind referees (sorry about that) and the cheating by the eventual champion Shockers! ....... big suprises were the MonStars and Dirty Joes ...... for a while, looked like they might make it to the finals ...... the No Boys were a fun team to watch ...... I really thought they were going to take their second match when they went up 6-3 ..... Dirty Penguins had the best team uniforms until Andrew took of his fro and they all took out the teeth ...... Canadiansteve and Coach Petey did their usual good job of antagonizing, villifying, embarassing and occasionally being funny ....... they actually did a great job with their routine ...... they should, they work it every day at football practice ....... I told them they need to serious-up this year (like that'll work) ...... all in all, this was a really great event ..... and I guess we should give kudos to the champions of the 2005 Steveville Open Dodgeball Tournament, the Shockers ....... good game to the Head Bustas who fought back to take second ...... this is bad but U don't remember who was third ..... I think it was the Dirty Joes

hello we did make it to the finals the dirty cheatin shockers beat us then we had the challenge match right after that one for 2nd and lost cause the challengers we rested

i think the highlight of my day was lighting up big steve o in the finals couldn't top that

Everyone is going to have their own outlook on how the tourney went. I just want to comment on how the shockers came, saw, and crushed everyone's hopes of winning the championship.

It's very hard to be humble, when you're that good.

i would formally like to ask the high council if i may begin a new chatper of RAOS here in pitt and spread our brotherhood to the newly forming wrestling club....we r not currently allowed to start an athetic sponsered team because of NCAA regulations and inadiquit school funds

Thanks to all the supportive parents who worked this year for fundraising...especially those who worked all the events at the speedway...it is parents like these that make the program excel...we know you don't have to do it and you take time out of your busy schedules to help out the wrestlers...again, I cannot thank you enough...

I would like to add my thanks to those of Big Steve O ..... we absolutely could not do the things we do without the support of our parents and other supporters ....... just a few more weeks until the season begins!

Hello from Texas (or as I affectionately dub this area, the face of the sun). Thanks for the shout! We have made the transition, still getting fully unpacked, but all is getting back to normal. Just sold our house in KC...in fact, we were back in KC for the races. Please let me know where you folks are working next year, so I can come by and visit. Just saw the new classifications, looks like 5A has a different look with Aquinas and BC both present. I see where BV and Campus are now 6A so that should be interesting. Do not know if we will get back for the regular season, but do plan to be in Wichita. I imagine Hamburglar and Alien are ready to go, as well as the other Steves in their quest for state dominance. Maybe Angry will not consider us "rivals" in our new roles! Our best wishes to all in Steveville and look forward to our next meeting.

Hey Steves... I'm glad to see that it's been almost a year since I created this thread it with the exception of only a couple times for a day at most this thread remains on the 1st page. I hope to see this all continue, and I have faith that once the season starts that shouldn't be a problem. I suspect that by the end of this wrestling season there will easily be 1000+ posts on this thread. I miss Steveville a lot, and I can't help but think of the times at the land of the orange shorts. As for Cpt. I need to get in touch with you and come down to hang out with you and Brian some weekend. I've visited Party Boy twice so far already. Good luck to all the Steves this season, and Superior, I was wondering if you're cell phone has changed because I was thinking that I'd like to get ahold of you when i come into town. Steve ..... he's earned the right to make fun of me ........ a little ........ we have quite a few Steves playing football ....... Aliensteve, BamBamsteve, SweetRollsteve, Huggiesteve, BlueCollarsteve, Gutesteve (until we get an official Steve name for him), and several Steves-to -be ........ but, if you read all the preseason stuff, we're not supposed to contend this year ....... can't wait for the season to begin ....... stay in touch!

Ah yes, the preseason rankings and predictions...affectionately known as the "would've, could've, should've" report. Makes for some good bulletin board material. Wish I could be there, as 5A looks to be mighty tough this year. The secret will be getting as many folks at the right weights top to bottom. My guess is the Steve braintrust is all over this and you will be in the thick of it all. Be interesting to see how the Regionals are put together...it's all good! Take care.

yea...dad knows his football....unfoturnately the leg is no good....but hey...i will be ok...i don't think i will be working out anymore...but i will be around...docs said it could be a month before i am walking again...so that sucks..i am not to sure how long it will be before it is healed....but i am being optimistic....i will see-ya guys soon....

got the final word today...i have to have surgery and get a titanium plate....and screws put in my leg....man...this is gonna be a long two months....or three....i will make it around sometimes guys...just not everyday...thanks bracket-man...i am trying my best...i am just not used to sittin around not doing anything...kinda weird for me....
