USA Magazine Ranks Saints Recruiting Class No. 3 - 09/05/13 06:53 AM

The Maryville University wrestling team has brought in the No. 3 ranked non-Division I recruiting class in the nation as rated in the September 2013 edition of Wrestling USA Magazine. The rankings were based upon the evaluations from Dan Fickel of the Best 2013 High School Seniors.

"This recruiting class is a great fit for Maryville University and our wrestling program," Saints head coach Mike Denney said. "We wanted to bring in top people who excel both academically and on the mat. All of the incoming student-athletes will be great additions to the program as we build upon the successes from last year and our first Division II national champion. "

Headlining the Maryville class is Dream Team member and three-time Missouri state champion Jaret Singh from Kearney High School. Darick Lapaglia claimed two Class 4 state titles at 145 for Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Mo. He was ranked No. 1 in his weight class in Missouri and No. 12 overall in the country. In addition, Josh Fisher transferred to Maryville from Division I Campbell University and will be eligible to compete this season for the Saints at 133. He was a four-time West Virginia state high school champion.

Other top incoming newcomers noted by Wrestling USA Magazine include area standouts Kodi Byrd from Jackson, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South's Jesse Czerniewski and Nic Smith and state champion from Whitfield School Ethan Sherertz. Nebraska state qualifier Michael Gregorson and Iowa state placer Mitchell Pelfrey are expected to impact the Saints lineup.

Maryville, which was ranked as high as No. 15 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association last year, opens the 2013-14 season with the University of Central Missouri Open Nov. 17.

Yes, Marvio has another year of eligibility. I think he sat out a year of college between "the other place" and Maryville University.
