Im looking to get into Freestyle - 02/19/02 01:35 AM

I've been wrestling in folkstyle wrestling for about 7 years now. I've been lifting some weights and stuff the past year, and i've been gettin pretty strong. I had a couple refs come up to me after matches and saying i should get into freestyle wrestling, because i mostly use upper body wresting anyway. I wanted to see if anyone could tell me what the major differences are and where some tournys around Hiawatha, ks would be good for me to goto.Or can i even be in fokestyle and freestyle at the same time?? i need some help.........

Some of the main differences of freestyle and folkstyle is that in free you score points every time your opponents shoulders break the nighty degree plane. instead of a ref counting to 2 or 5 every time your opponents shoulderd break that plane its two or more. You are awarded more points based on how high you can throw your oppontents. Also if at any point your opponents shoulders touch at the same time for even an instant that is consider what is known as a "touch pin" and the match is over. A tech fall is 10 points instead of 15. There is a lot more to it than that but it just gives you an idea. Also you do lock hands when you are on top in freestyle. Anyway if you want more information just reply to this and I will call you and give you some more info.
