2010 Schoolboy Duals Info

My name is Tom Williams and I am the Kansas Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Duals Freestyle/Greco director. If your wrestler was born in 1996 or 1997 then he or she is eligible for inclusion on this year's team. We will wrestle in Indianapolis Indiana on June 9 through June 13 and will have a one or two day camp in the Kansas City area prior to departure. For those of you who have wrestled middle school duals the trip and format is similar, with one tournament for Greco and one for Freestyle.

Preparation: Please attend all FS/GR tournmanet you can, including Freestyle/Greco State on May 8. Please also attend Southern Plains camp and tournament May 31 through June 5 in Hays. The tournament schedule is on the calendar link on this website.

Selection: By the coacching staff with state tournament/head to head criteria considered. If you would like your wrestler(s) consideered, please email me their name, weight and accomplishments so that we may start a listing of those kids and watch them.

For those wishing to attend and participate on the 2010 Kansas Schoolboy Duals Team in Indy in June, please do the following:

1. Attend FS/GR practice in your area.
2. Attend the regional training worksites. I have been told Schoolboys are invited and welcome. Here is the link to the flyer- http://www.usawks.com/invites/10RegionalSites.pdf
Note the next one is this Sunday, May 2.
3. Register and attend KS State FS/GR next weekend (May 8) at Rose Hill High School. See the thread and calendar for registration info.
4. Attend all tournaments/clinics you can in the next month. See the Freestyle/Greco forum for info there.
5. Try to go to the Southern Plains camp and regional, May 31 an June 3, respectively. These are great practice sessions against tough competition.

At state last weekend I saw a lot of great wrestling by the school boys. There is a need for heavier weights for the Dual team. There was 0 kids over the 190lb class. Please contact Williams or Knox ASAP to get the information you need.

2010 Kansas Schoolboy Dual Team

Congratulations, you have been selected as a candidate for the 2010 Kansas National Schoolboy team. You have already shown you are one of the best in Kansas folkstyle wrestling. Now it’s time to take it to the next level and advance your wrestling in FreeStyle and Greco.

To qualify you must be born in 1996 or 1997 and have a desire start building the foundation to get you to the next level of wrestling. The National SchoolBoy Freestyle/Greco duals are June 9-13 in Indianapolis, IN, and offer a great opportunity to represent your state on a national level, get some great extra coaching and mat time, and start getting yourself ready for high school wrestling. It also shows you what it’s like to be a part of a team pulling for a common goal just like high school. It will be one of the most fun experiences you have ever had in wrestling.

Schoolboy Duals is an exciting opportunity for your young wrestler to grow and mature as a young man and a wrestler. We have tentative plans for a camp in the Kansas City Metropolitan area for two days commencing on Monday, June 7, 2010. We will leave for Indiana on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 to wrestle for four days and return Sunday, June 13, 2010.

The team travels in vans supervised by the coaching staff and stays together in a hotel in the Indianapolis area. We anticipate a cost for the team, which is only partially funded by USA Wrestling – Kansas, is $225.00 per wrestler. The wrestlers will each receive a blue and red singlet which is custom designed only for the Kansas summer national teams, two t-shirts and a pair of shorts, all designed by Blue Chip Athletic. This gear is included in the cost that each wrestler must pay.

The 2010 National Schoolboy duals give you the opportunity to wrestle up to 15 or more matches in 4 days! It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Please call me with any questions or interest, and I will be contacting many of you as well or talking with you at upcoming tournaments. If you know any other wrestlers born in 1996 or 1997 that are interested have them give me a call or e-mail as well. I will be at many of the upcoming tournaments and will see you there.

We are officially less than a week away from the team camp scheduled for our Kansas Schoolboy Team and we still do not have any information on any specifics. Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks Doug, we've been trying that with no success and have been hearing from several of the other parents the same thing so we spoke with Cokely at Hays yesterday and he said the same thing, to contact Tom; however still no informaion. We'll keep trying, just trying to schedule everything, etc. Thanks again.

Did you try the phone number also? Your email could be getting caught in a spam filter. He has always returned calls and emails promptly.

For those not going, it would be nice to see who is on the team.

Schoolboy Duals Update:

We are running behind this year, the timing of state and other factors are part of this.

I found out Friday that our camp facility is not available so I have been scrambling to find a an alternate location. Tentatively, the following is our schedule:

1. Monday, June 7- 12:00 p.m. -- Camp commences, St. James Academy, Lenexa
2. Wednesday, June 9- Leave for Indy on 2 vans.
3. Sunday, June 13- Return to St James, time depends on tournament results.

We are staying at the Dollar Inn in Greenfield, IN. My rate is about $35/$40 per night and I have and additional 6 or 7 rooms if someone wants one, tell me by this Friday.

Chaperones- I need an adult in each room with 3 wrestlers, two to a bed. If you want to do this, let me know ASAP. You will pay $40 for your room total for the four nights. I do not need drivers, but do need several to handle food, errands and so forth, there is always something to do and I appreciate all who are interested.

Great news- Just found out we will workout and camp at St James Academy in Lenexa, starting Monday, June 7 at 12:00. All are asked to be there at that time. This is phenomenal, they have two full mats, showers, kitchen and food storage, all for us to us at no cost. A godsend at this stage.

Also, add Jeryl Denton and Andrew Millsap at 128, and Preston Baughn of Chanute to the list at 210/265.
