Fargo 2013

The first group from Team KS has arrived in Fargo. Mike Juby, Randy H., Coaches Dennis Charbonneau, Tom Peterman, & Pat Kelly are currently settled in at the dorms. Team Registration is complete. Practice Times have been organized & rooms have been assigned.

Coaching staff back at camp reports that Cadets have had two great workouts today and are currently packing up for checkout. Departing tonight from Camp. The Junior Team has also reported some great workouts today and are currently getting ready for their final workout this evening. Tomorrow is another day of training for them and then they depart tomorrow night. Can't wait to get the team here and let them scrap.

Waking up in Fargo is a great feeling. I guess, it is the anticipation of what's to come!

The Cadets will arrive in about an hour. They will check in, have a couple of meetings, a couple of workouts and a couple of meals!

Tonight, I have my first session of a Bronze clinic.

Tonight ... we will try to sleep! Our warriors need a good night rest before the enter into battle! That begins in roughtly 24 hours!!

Six of our Juniors are still alive after today's sessions, and four three of them are undefeated. Andrew Millsap, Jared Johnson and Nathan Butler posted all wins today, while Calvin Ochs, Dylan Weisner and Spencer Wilson advance to tomorrow's sessions with a single loss.

Overall, our Junior team has posted an impressive record of 45 wins and 30 losses.

In the Junior Women competition, Gabby Spears recovered from her opening loss with a victory, followed by a bye. She will return to the mat tomorrow as well.

It looks like Millsap's BYE just assured him AA status! He was a beast at Junior Duals and is 6-0 in Fargo.

Our Junior team did outstanding, coming in 9th in the nation, one point behind Oregon but ahead of powerhouses like Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, New York & Pennsylvania.

You know we talk about the AA's, but I want to give credit to some of the other kids like Dylan Wiesner. He had a winning record, made it to the 2nd day. Another Kansas 170 with a great showing.

How bad is ochs hurt? Any chance of freestyle?

Just a personal note. I've spent most of my yrs in the 321A ranks. Watched Jared Johnson for 4 years and am a huge fan. When he takes the mat, the entire gym stops what they're doing and watches him. Calvin Ochs grew into a super star in his 4 yrs. One of Hoxie's best of all time, which is saying a lot. My move to 5A introduced me to some new faces. I've seen some really good heavyweights in KS. Disney, Boyle, Zlatnik, Sprigg, Ubben, among others. Nathan Butler is among the best I've ever seen. Andrew Milsap used to come to Seaman High School for USAWKS training sessions. He showed technique and was a great workout partner. Spencer Wilson has a special place in my heart. He came in for 6am workouts during the season. His high school season didn't end the he wanted but his off season including Colorado, Iowa, Junior Duals, and Fargo have put him on the map where he belongs !

Thanks Coach, for everything the Seaman family did for Spencer this year.

Jared Johnson and his family have been stalwarts of Team Kansas for a decade! He wrestled for a 3A High School and represented everyone very well!

I will never forget when on Mat 1 he was matched up with an undefeated wrestler from Oregon. The Oregonian was physically intimidating and was much heralded. Jared went out and beat him, 8-0! The elation displayed by Jared is ... what competing is all about! It was a moment of accomplishment and of pure joy!

That moment will be what I remember ... Jared representing Team Kansas at a very high level!!

There are 1,064 wrestlers entered in the Junior Nationals freestyle tournament, an increase of 16 from last year.

There were 4,152 total entries in the eight-day ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals, an increase of 182 from last year. The numbers in all seven tournaments went up this year in Fargo.

This is a bit misleading, that was my thought when I heard them announce these numbers over the PA. There were 1007 Cadet FS wrestlers and 1062 (according to trackwrestling)Junior FS wrestlers. Most of these wrestlers were in Greco or should I say nearly all Greco wrestlers compete in FS too. Either way your information counts most competitors twice. So roughly 2100 DIFFERENT competitors in the four main events of the week. Just offering some clarity.

1st period ... Coon counters for 2 locks up the ankle lace and it is over quickly ... 4 laces in a row ... and it is the 2nd straight Triple Crown for Adam Coon.

I am sure it wasn't what Nathan Butler wanted but he will always be a runnerup in the Junior Nationals!

More than that, Nathan cements himself as being a top drawer young man! He will not allow his wrestling accomplishments to define him. He is outstanding young man and his future is bright!!

A few thoughts!

As always, to our graduated seniors! You each have represented Kansas well. You each have been members of Team Kansas and have accomplished greatness ... alone and as a Team!

While you may not wear a Team Kansas singlet again, always know that we are here to support you! Whether you are wrestling in College or getting on with your life in some other way, you will carry on with pride!

A huge thank you to all those that were involved. Most important to the parents and athletes. Lots of things go into the ability to compete at this prestigious event and the amount of sacrifice from all parents and athletes is simply tremendous. To our state organization, Mike Juby and fellow board members and everyone involved in USAWKS, parents, kids division athletes, this trip would not take place if it were not for our great organization and its devoted leaders and followers.

Randy Hinderlighter, the man behind the screen and always my voice of reason. Thanks for all you do with updates and education. You are a tremendous asset to our organization.

To all those that assist with coordinating teams, travel plans, logistics etc. my hats off to you. You all are very unappreciated and don't get the appropriate amount of recognition.

To the coaches on all staffs. What a great group of men. The work these guys put in with organizing practices, trainings, etc... I am very thankful I have the opportunity to work with you all.
