I see Rick,

im sorry its kinda hard to hear the tone of a person's comments when you are reading them, especially if you've never spoken to them in person. And since Colby is about a lifetime's drive away from me unless I ref at high school state sometime in the next couple of years we may not get to have that conversation.

By the way I just read the post about Lamar and Tyler, I don't ever remember hearing about that happening, but that is absolutly horrible, its hard to believe that an official would have done something like that, even harder to believe that Harry didn't say something

Anyone know the names of the officials? I always thought it would be funny if someone would make a t-shirt that read May 3X, Officials 1X.
Gibby,
I must have been typing when you were posting.. It was quite an ordeal though. I don't know about the t-shirt, but it does take a little luck along with skill to win 4 state titles... maybe it was just Dusty's lucky day that day and not Brookes. both are great people however and do our sport a lot of justice!

Seriously the worse call I ever saw... No the worse nocall I ever saw was in Oaklahoma :-). Take that you kansas officials. Robert Rodgers was down by 3 I think, maybe four against Shane Roller at Tulsa Nationals. Now keep in mind anytime Shane Roller came to the matt he had his own security and a fresh set of refs always came with him, Rodgers hits a Peterson with about thirty seconds left in the third period, the ref gives him two for the reversal while Rodgers is keeping the peterson and the ref never gives Rodgers back points. Robert at that time was a wrestler for Central Kansas in Derby which was the best club in Kansas at the time in my opinion. Now all you refs out there can call this whinning if you want but when you hear HALF OF TULSA NATIONALS BOOING you know that maybe someone just got hosed!! For those who don't know who Shane Roller is he was quite the wrestler from Oaklahoma. There is no doubt in my mind about how good he was. But when you have a record like his, and you see a nocall like that, you have to think that there is a little protection going on to.

I didn't see the call/no-call, but in the finals of 171 in 1990 there was quite the controversy over the Chris Hernandez/Matt Biles match. Both of them were awesome wrestlers. I truly don't remember what happened, but I'm sure one of the AC dawgs or Bonner Springs folks will remember.

Although the ref might have used the notion of cutting a guy off his back is unsportsmanlike, but still that's terrible.

I Think the worst ordeal I ever saw or heard of involved a Scott City Wrestler in the mid 70's at the state tournament which was being held at Topeka Hayden. The Scott City Coach at the time was Dean Biggs, and the wrestler that got the short end of the match was Dan Fry, I believe he was a 138 pounder. the match was pretty close during the first couple of rounds, Dan was warned several times for false starts during the match. His opponent seemed to be tiring, and with the match tied up, Dan just wrestled out the regulation as he was able to take the opponent down, went into overtime, won by a takedown, was awarded the match, and went to the motel to settle down for the next round. there was a conference after the round involving the opponents coach and the referee, and the head referee, in which the coach pointed out that the last warning to Mr. Fry was the third one and a point should have been awarded. The officials agreed and reversed the Decision, leaving the Scott City folks quite taken aback to find their 138 pounder on the back side when they came back to wrestle the next round. the point would have been awarded early in the third, and Scott City folks held that it was unfair to reverse the decision due to the fact that Mr. Fry would have wrestled the third period differently had he been behind than he did when the score was tied. The argument fell on deaf ears, and the result of the match was reversed even though the overtime had been wrestled out. The opponent was from Hayden, and it sure seemed to be a home town deal at the time.

Harry did go and dispute it but the ref obviously did not say that he decided to give the escape because ... it was said later to a person envolved. If it was any other wrestler besides his son he would have probably fought harder but you dont want to go nuts and be accused you are favoring your son. He also wanted to stay around a coach the Championship matchs.
I blame the 2nd ref as much as the primary. Watching the Semi final match from the TV replay the 2nd ref was counting along with the primary. He should have said I was counting with you and I was at 3 or 4. Sometimes the refs are so tied to getting along with their partner they just agree. But when it is that obvious he should have stepped up.

I'm sure Harry and Brady would just asone this topic did not come up. They have moved on as they no they cant do anything about the past. And I'm sure they would rather be recogonized for their acheivements not as whinners.

The main point really is most referees do a great job but are always going to make some judgement calls you may disagree with. But there are a few that become fans and decide a match and that is wrong.

What do you mean nobody cares about Nebraska. Do I detect a Kansas State attitude here? Isn't that the same KSU that has never won a national title in any sport? Has KSU ever had a Heisman Trophy winner? Hmmm.

That's not true. KSU won the 1977 swine judging national championship. Swine judging is a sport, isn't it?

It's called being TRUE FAN. Anybody can support a team that has won titles and had heisman winners.

Yea Nigel, but the horse is the true athlete there.

Pennywise I've always been a fan of Nebraska and most KSU fans can't say that. There are more jump on the band wagon fans at KSU then at Nebraska. Look at the fan base before Snyder and that tells the true fan story. I use to go to some of those football games 25 years ago and the stadium was nearly empty, so are most KSU fans actually true?
You might ask why did a Nebraska fan go to KSU game? Well, it was pity. Just joking. KSU almost had to pay people to attend the games.
