Was asking some of the guys down here at college from Kansas if they had any ideas...(now this is just hearsay, but might give an idea) Hoover was coaching at KMC last year during the 1st semester is what I was told, due to the fact he was ineligible for some reason or another.

Hoover was injured last season in an open tournament wrestling for the Cornhuskers. The injury required surgery. Doug has recovered and is wrestling behind senior Jason Powell, former 4X State Champion from Oklahoma and current 2X NCAA All American at 125 lbs. The wrestle offs for varsity positions has not yet occurred, and much as I hate to admit it, it is likely Doug will not beat out Jason!
As for coaching at KMC, once again Sweazy is mistaken as the coach at KMC is Hoover's cousin, Tim Dryden. Hoover did spend time in the KMC weight room and wrestling room rolling around with his former coach prior to enrolling at Nebraska.

I don't even know what he looks like...a teammate of mine said he thought that he was helping with either the High school or the Kids program back in the Kapaun area.

I'll try not to make a habit out of coming to Sweazy's defense.
But Hoover was in the corner for Kapaun at last year's Hoxie Invitational. And he was doing a lot more coaching - or at least being more vocal on that day than Dryden. So he was doing some coaching for Kapaun, at least during the first semester.
Sorry Mr. Salyer, but Sweazy was right this time.

Dear Les:
I think we will both agree, the high school "coach" is a paid position.
Factually, Hoover was not the coach for Kapaun at the Hoxie Invitational. There is no question who the KMC wrestling coach is.
If Matt Murray were to return to Colby High School to work out with current wrestlers, and attend a Colby High School wrestling dual and/or tournament, and sit at the corner of the mat with one of the current Colby coaches and offer encouragement and instructions, I do not believe any knowledgeable wrestling fan would confuse Murray for one of the Colby High School wrestling coaches.
If my often failing memory serves me correctly, at last years KSHSAA 4A State Wrestling Championships, Austin Devoe was matside when his younger brother, Ross, wrestled in the finals.
While Austin offered much encouragement and advice, I do not believe anyone was confused as to who the Columbus coaches were, Todd Napier (head coach), and his assistant and younger brother, Eric Napier.
With all due respect, I stand by my previous statement!

You say potato......
But if you didn't know Matt Murray and saw him sitting in a chair in the corner of a mat during matches, you might assume he was a coach.
After all, wouldn't a spectator be removed from the chairs at mat side if the presiding officials did not view him as a coach?
To me if someone is sitting in the corner at mat side in the chairs provided and is shouting encouragement and instruction before, during and after the match, I'd say they are coaching - whether they were getting paid for the assignment or not.
If they are doing the same thing from the stands, I'd say they are spectators.
Doug was sitting mat side and yelling instruction , so I'd say he was coaching on that day.
Sweazy, I guess the lesson to be learned here is that we should always ask to see a copy of a coach's supplemental contract and ask for a photo ID before addressing someone as "coach".
