Tovar (UNO/Abilene) TF1 his first opponent 17-2

Abbey (UNK/?) Pinned his first opponent

Those two will meet in the next round...there are two types of tech falls at least in college for those that didn't know, that's why TF1.

Tovar TF1 Craft (Indiapolis) in 4:53 17-2

Abbey pinned Thomas (Shippensburg) in 4:45

Let me know if I'm missing people from Kansas that qualified:

More 1st round results:

Silvis at 165 won by TF1 15-0

Meister pulled out a 2-0 win and looks like he should make it to the semis, if not better.

Nichols of FHSU just won 10-2 at 184

King of FHSU lost by 13-9...I think he'll win his 1st conso match, he'll have a doozy for a second conso match if he makes it there.

Ubben FHSU just pinned a guy in 5:48

The second round will not be wrestled until 6:00 tonight. I think they are wrestling Quarter-finals and the 1st and 2nd round consolations.

FHSU had really great draws for the early rounds...I was predicting 4 in the semis for them...but we shall see...Someone else do the update, I'm so busy getting photos together and stuff from the Chapman parade.

Any word on how Nordhues did in the 2nd round? Very interested!. David was on the Colby College team for 2 years and due to injury both years was unable to show his talent at the end of the season. I am positive he would have been an NJCAA All American. Not only that, but I truly believe he is a as good a person as he is a wrestler, and we sure missed having him out here in Colby. Get us an update Aaron! My son thinks the world of David and is wanting to know how he's doing.

Nichols placed 6th.
Sylvis was beaten by two time national champion Waylon Lowe in the finals at 165 tonight. Waylon won his first two titles at 149 and bumped up to 165 to win his third. To bad there was another guy goin for his third at that time. I know Waylon very well and he is a good friend and I congradulate him. However, I don't want to take anything away from what Sylvis done in his college career. Good luck in the future both of you. College wrestling will miss both of you.

Ubben forfeited the final match...it was crazy that UCO needed UNO and NDSU to lose every single match and then win all of theirs by bonus points to possibly jump ahead to win it again...well 4 losses happend, but so did one for UCO so it ended that. However Ubben lost on a forfeit...not sure what happend. Lowe and Silvis are classy guys...best to them....by the way...Ubben's forfeit gave swing points to UNO to surpass NDSU for 1st. NDSU is going to be D1 next year....anyway...

Other A.A.s
Tovar
Abbey
Silvis
Meister
Nichols
Ubben

I probably left somebody off...my apologies.

Ubben got injured in like the first 30 seconds, Sigman (sp) was in on a single leg and they were down on the mat and in the process tore what is thought to be 2 ligiments in Ubbens knee and he was not able to finish, It was too bad, i was ready to see Ubben get a national Title.

Someone on themat.com said you could hear a pin drop because Ubben was screaming in pain...they said it looked pretty close to potentially dangerous..what were your thoughts?

I personally thought that it if they were 125 lbers than it shouldnt and prolly wouldnt have been stopped, but a heavyweights joints are not quite as limber as some smaller wrestlers. I think it should have been stopped. I think that Sigman (sp) felt bad and it was not intentional he looked concerned, it is just too bad it had to happen like that. The crowd was pretty silent and the ohmaha crowd won the national title because of it and they didnt even really celebrate until after the awards.

Yea kind of ruins the moment...but that shows they have class in holding off. Sounded like a great race to the end, but can't top 2001, when SDSU and NDSU were neck and neck with the HWT match to go.

SDSU's defending National Champion was out there to wrestle...against a NDSU guy...it was awesome they were all over the place...finally the place went nuts when the NDSU guy launched the defending champion off the platform and then about a minute later caught him in a snake like move for the win to claim his own title as well as one for his team.
