Red Pool
Final Pool Round Robin Pairings
#1 Iowa (2-0) vs. #5 Pennsylvania (1-1)

#11 Kansas (1-1) vs. #7 Minnesota (0-2)

A Kansas victory over Minnesota will secure a second place finish in the Red pool.

Blue Pool
Final Round Robin Pairings
#9 New Jersey (2-0) vs. #4 Missouri (0-2)
#2 Oklahoma (1-1) vs. #6 Illinois (1-1)

An Oklahoma victory over Illinois will secure a second place finish in the Blue pool.

As I understand the pool pairings, the two pool champions will dual for the Championship, and the second place finishers will dual for third place. Providing Kansas and Oklahoma are victorious in their next duals, the two neighbors will dual for third place.

I'm a little confused. In the red pool, shouldn't there be a team that's 0-2?

Is there not a backup at 215 that could be thrown in against Illinois? Congratulations on the work so far. That is an impressive run with an open weight.

Just heard that the Minnesota coaches and possibly some others were complaining about the "style" or "techniques" the Kansas wrestlers were using. Even heard about something they were doing that was “illegal.” Apparently it sounds like they may have filed a complaint or something of that nature. Anyone know what is up with that? I am at a loss and have had to deal with a tragedy today so haven't been able to follow much of what is going on and did not get to go down today like I had hoped after church. I have had a couple of calls about it and am going ahead and posting the question. Anyone having information about what is going on I would appreciate it.

Frankly I didn't see anything the two days I was down there. I know against Illinois that every time Kansas started to get a little physical the ref's stopped it but I thought that the officials there were being a little excessive.

Red Pool
Round One
Iowa Dirty Rotten Corn 41, Minnesota Storm 21

Round Two
Pennsylvania Team #1 36, Minnesota Storm 25

Round Three
Kansas 43, Minnesota Storm 16

The Minnesota coach has more to complain about than the Kansas team.

Congratulations to all the young men who represented Team Kansas and led the team to a fourth place finish. You have made us proud.

Great job!

We were being "too physical" or something on Minnesota is why they wouldn't wrestle the rest of the dual...They though we were trying to hurt them when we were just being physical...The whole tournament the ref's were bugging us about hammering the head and what not...

He didn't get DQ'd....he almost did...he was hitting a front head pinch and they called it before he scored his three both times saying something was wrong with it....then he pounded the head and they called him on that and gave the guy a point...the ref then talked to Joe and was tellin him to look him in the face which joe did and then the ref said do you understand and joe just stayed looking at him and said "get him outta here" but then the other ref talked and he wasn't DQ'd

I'll try to clarify a few points of course they are from my perspective.

I don’t know where the DQ came from in Cornejo’s results with Illinois. Joe was beaten 0-3 by a wrestler he had defeated the evening before. Joe was clearly frustrated in this match but was not DQ’d.

In the dual with Minnesota, I think, as Mr. Salyer has suggested, that MN coaches were having a bad day prior to an encounter with Team Kansas who have a very physical style. Kansas had just come off a 5-point loss to Iowa and could have experienced a “drop off” in their intensity. The wrestlers of Team Kansas were made aware of this and were asked to “keep wrestling.”

The first inkling of a problem was in their match up was at 130. A MN coach mistook some actions from the stands as being aimed at an injured wrestler. The coach sought security. However, even the mat judge, who was setting just below the fans, stated that what was being cheered was not aimed at the injured wrestler.

At 145, Cornejo banged the head and dug and under hook. The referee, as is his right, stopped the match and cautioned Joe about “un-necessary roughness.” As I said, it is an official’s right to use his/her judgment on that nature of action. Joe has a very intense style and expressed a bit of displeasure with this. After a bit more wrestling, Cornejo scored on a 2-point back bow but was once again warned about the physicality. Joe again was dis-pleased. The mat official addressed Joe and was not happy with Joe’s attitude. The ref asked the Kansas coaches to handle the situation and adjust Joe a bit.

At 171 Ross Taplin had a very physical match, which he won handily. Again in this match, the Minnesota coaching staff did not like the physical style of wrestling. The MN staff said they would forfeit the remaining matches and did so.

I’ve reflective on this and really am pleased that they did. They could have continued the match and perhaps got “more beat up” or they could have instructed their remaining wrestlers to be “very physical” with us. Either scenario would have brought even more bad blood between the teams.

That’s enough of that. Now, on to what I really wanted to post. It has been a great pleasure being around this group. As I stated in an earlier post, I am very proud of our graduated seniors. They are fine young men and have a big future in front of them.

No ... you're quite wrong. I said it was during his match but it did not involve either him or his family. It was from another fan who was rooting for DeShazer!

hawk1970 - Even when you are wrong, as in this case, you can't just admit you were wrong. You have to take a swipe at a kid and his family. Randy just told you - it wasn't Deshazer or his family. Just admit you made a mistake and leave it at that. There is no need to make a comment like "you just see something to (sic) many times and you start to expect it" I see by looking at your posts that you have only 4 post. All of them have had a comment about the Deshazers. Care to explain?

I meant no disrespect to the kid at all and if it came off that way I appologize. I think all the DeShazer’s are great wrestlers and are exciting to watch. I just think the family is classless and disrespectful….that I will not apologize for.
