It will be settled!!
Goddard beat STA easily at blue valley nw last year and this years team is stronger! Notimer did not mention Bonewell and Elliott. Both could win state.
They will also be stronger than you think at the first 2 weights.
Check the Derby results for more info on this. ... Blessings Jayhawkster
It was two different teams last year. I believe both teams lost an individual state champion to graduation. I know Aquinas did with Andy Hurla. I am sure that Goddard is stronger but Caldwell and Beard are probably not going to score that many more points than they did last year. On Aquinas side I think they are also stronger and I think they have several seniors and juniors who are bigger and stronger than a year ago and who will score more points at Blue Valley NW's tournament. Last year Aquinas won the 2005 Johnson County Classic with 282.5 to BVNW at 261.5 in second. This year in the 2006 Johnson County Classic Aquinas scored 348 points setting the tournament record and Gardner Edgerton took second at 200 points. But I would also agree with Mr. Jilka that at this year's BV Northwest tournament, all that will be determined is who will be the better team that day.
To me in settling the question as to who is the best team in the State, it would be great if we had a Dual style state tournament. I am not going to claim that either Goddard or Aquinas is the best team in the state this year. I think if you were to select the top 16 teams for a dual style tournament that both teams would have a good chance of being selected. Based on the teams that each team fielded the last wrestling week in December (Aquinas - JoCo Classic, Goddard - Emporia) the matchups in a dual between Aquinas and Goddard would be:
Listing name, year, records for Aquinas the record is their individual record before the classic, place at 12/16/06 tournament Emporia for Goddard and JoCo Classic for Aquinas.

This would be a good dual to see. I think there would be some great matchups. I am too biased to give a prediction on the outcome. Too bad it is not going to happen.
