These results were found for the Dana Open! Do you see something odd?
• Championship matches: 125: Tony Pescaglia, Missouri, def. Craig Trampe, Dana, 11-3. 133: Jon Gerhold, Missouri Valley, def. Garrett Harding, Missouri Valley, 3-1. 141: Terrence Almond, Dana, won by forfeit over Brian Graham, Dana. 149: Todd Meneely, UNO, def. Jeff Keske, Iowa Central, 5-3, OT. 157: Joseph Cornejo, Northern Illinois, def. Joe Ellenberger, UNK, 6-0. 165: Colby Covington, Iowa Central, def. Chris Jones, Iowa Central, 4-2. 174: Brandon Browne, Nebraska, def. JD Naig, UNO, 5-3. 184: Vince Jones, Nebraska, pinned Nate Oviatt, UNO, 1:15. 197: Cameron Browne, Nebraska, def. Andrew Lundgren, Northwestern, 9-8. 285: David Herman, Missouri Valley, def. Jake Combs, Iowa Central, 3-1.
The lack of Kansas studs is explained, "The University of Nebraska at Omaha, Division II's three-time defending national champion, held out sophomore Cody Garcia at 125, sophomore Ross Taplin at 165 and freshman Jacob Marrs at 197."
But what about the 157 final?

Garcia was injured last week at The Midlands. Why is the 157 final surprising? As of this morning, Joe is still listed on Northern Illinois roster. Northern Illinois Wrestling Roster

I am happy to say that Joseph is no longer with NIU wrestling! He has been withdrawn form NIU and does not have to be released per NIU Athletic Director(Glen Krupica). He was entered as a Labette wrestler, so there has just been an error on the results. GO LABETTE CARDINALS!

Excuse me Mr. Salyer. I, for one, found the results a bit odd, given the reports of Joe's transfer to Labette. And as it turns out, it was odd!
Great tourney Joe and best of luck at Labette!

Great tourney Joe and best of luck at Labette! I did not find the results odd as Joseph won the tournament. Last week when I viewed the bracket for 157 lbs. it listed #2 Joseph Cornejo (LC)! Dana Open Brackets- 2007 PDF I too wish Joseph well and believe he will be an outstanding addition to the educational institution he chooses to attend. Joseph defeated the varsity wrestler for Northern Illinois three times this season, once at the ranking match, once at The Pointer Open in Wisconsin and once at the Kaufman Open in Nebraska. Joseph will find the wrestling politics in Kansas much more to his liking. Is it next year when Newman U is able to offer scholarships????? Joe would look great as a Jet!

As it has clearly been stated, Joe Cornejo is at Labette now. For the record, they are the Cardinals not the Jets. The Cardinals will be the 2007 NJCAA National Champions. Joe has the opportunity to come in and wrestle for a National Championship team that knows how to work hard and win. I think after his time at Labette his opportunities will exceed what Northern Illinois ever had to offer to him. Go Cardinals.

I think that Richard was referring to the possibility of Cornejo coming back to Wichita to wrestle for Newman (as a Jet).

I think that Richard was referring to the possibility of Cornejo coming back to Wichita to wrestle for Newman (as a Jet). Yes...I realize that. Once again...I think it is clear that Joe Cornejo is now at Labette. Let's support his decision to come home to Kansas and wrestle for the Cardinals. He will have many opportunities after Labette, including Newman if he wanted to.

Also participating at this tournament and placing third in the 285 lb. weight classification was Tony Lewis. You may view the complete brackets at the following link: Dana Open - 2007 PDF
