Something has to be said! He had every opportunity Friday afternoon to do the right thing, but his temper, pride and possibly vindictiveness ruled. Brent's opponent taunted him in a very unsportsman like manner and nothing was said or done to him. A much more volatile situation erupted in Garden City the week before and NOTHING was done. The punishment was MANY FOLD greater than the cause. Aparently the head ref. is given an unbelievable amount of POWER. His first responsability should be to officiate justly and to do NO UNDO HARM. Even as an assistant ref. in the 160 lb. 5A final he over ruled the opinion of the head ref to cost the Carroll kid a title. The fallout costs are really devestating here in the western suburbs of Wichita.

I'm sorry, but that last statement made me laugh.

The kid from shwanee had the takedown against the kid from carrol so you can't use that excuse but there was some terrible refs this weekend in wichita and it wasn't even anderson this time.

Jayhawkster, I'm pretty sure you were insanely confused when you made this thread. Firstly, Bishop Carroll is a 5a school. Secondly, Bishop Carroll had nobody in the finals at 171 pounds in 5a or 6a. So the idea of a ref costing a Carroll kid a title in the 6a 171 pound bracket is not only unlogical, but impossible. Now had you said 5a 160, then I could see a little bit of your point, but the ref should have given the points a little faster than he did, thus the Carroll kid would still have lost.

As my friend Randy likes to say "Oh snap"!

Good catch Curtis - I too noticed the error however I am trying to remain on good behavior!

I stand corrected Mr. Chenowith. It was 160 in 5A. If you had a son in the tourny maybe you would also be in a "state of insane confusion." I was refering to Tanner's take down at the end of Reg. that Ashpole (i think it was Ashpole) was getting ready to ring up, until the asst. ref. jumped in.

Your right, Swaze, the statement is a little dramatic!! I'll just say the kids and the parents are very disappointed.

Does the student athelete in question even live in the Goddard district? A rule is a rule even if you don't like it.

With that kind of post, you will always bring out the Carroll haters. See? Too bad for the 160lber, a sad moment for a good kid, a joyous occasion for the rest of the masses. Trust me, if it were to happen to a certain Derby kid, there would be a 3 page post in here with wailing and gnashing of teeth. It doesn't matter to them if it was a takedown or not in regulation, the bottom line is he lost. Pop the champagne corks haters.

Where ever the shoe fits. The guy said regulation, not overtime, but that was brushed under the rug. Just look at the posts and you will find what you seek.

I think the shoe you're trying to put on somebody is way to big for the foot.

Wow. That's almost cryptic. The real issue is the takedown, or no takedown at the end of regulation. Overtime, questionable call, but understandable.
