Morgan hasn't been DQ'd many times. I can only remember once. There have been plenty of penalty points though. I don't think he had even one at regionals though. Mikey is just mean on the mat and he gets a little carried away sometimes...wrestling is a tough sport.

mikey got dq'd only once this year at the OU open. He has given up a number of penalty pts. He just likes to manhandle people and he gets a little rough at times.

Right now Labette is in 6th with 19 points, they have six wrestlers still on the front side, with the other three losing by a point. Colby is in 7th with 17.5 points, then Neosho is in 9th with 15. While Pratt is scoreless.

The cards are still in the hunt. Cornejo lost a big one early and Yust is out of the tourney now. The rest of the guys have looked solid. We have picked up quite a few pins once things got rolling. This next round (Quarters) will tell a lot. We have better match-ups than Iowa Central. Iowa Central has picked up a lot of pins though....even their weak guys are finding a few. That is concerning. It's still wide open at this point. We need a big round. There haven't been many big upsets yet. I'll re-post tonight.

The Pratt team looked better this afternoon. Fairley, Carillo, and Edgemon looked solid in the back door. Wilkinson was burried twice...he's out.

Labette has 7 All-Americans and is currently in 2nd to Iowa Central. Berens-133, Ward-141, Morgan-167, Rencountre-197, and Hohensee-285 all in the semis. While Cornejo-157 and Enyobi-184 in the "blood round".

81.5 Iowa Central
77.5 Labette
73.5 Meremac

It's a tight race...but the cards are in pole position. The cards have 7 AA's. 5 on the front side and 2 on the back. Meremac has 4 on the front and 2 on the back. Iowa Central has 3 on the front 4 on the back....Cards Role Tomorrow!

Dang ... a report on themat.com says that Iowa Central has the title locked up. If it is true, that makes three in a row!

Finals are scheduled to begin at 7 pm.

It does look like Kansas will have 3 teams in the top 10. Colby and Neosho are joining Labette.

Keep in mind that Nassau and Harper are both in the non-scholarship division of the tournament, so Labette placed 3rd, Colby 6th and Neosho in a tie for 8th in the DI portion of the event.

Iowa Central earned the title. They battled through some very tough early draws. And also keep in mind that they red-shirted two returning national champions (157 Nate Carr, Jr and 165 Colby Covington) and a national runner-up (141 Joe Soto) this year. Returning champ Jon Jones (197) had red-shirted the year before. It amazes me that they can afford to keep the current line-up full of future DI talent and keep red-shirting finalists like they are. Lassen used to do it to, but never on this scale.....must have some gi-normous funding there.

Labette also had a great run. In most years that kind of performance would have earned them the national title, but ICCC and Meramec were loaded this year.

Colby and Neosho put together a decent tournament.
And despite some horrible draws, Pratt wrestled tough. Edgmon, Carrillo and Fairly all made some nice runs after early losses.

We should all be proud of our Kansas representation at the nation meet.

Labette did have a great run...a stronger Saturday could have brought the title home. We lost some matches we shouldn't have lost...I guess we won a few we shouldn't have too. Morgan (165) wrestled smart and relaxed through the tourney...He made us proud. He didn't rip off Lowers arm in the finals but he did beat him solidly! Scotty Berens wrestled his heart out at 133...I smiled ear to ear watching him earn AA honors. Ward wrestled very tough on Friday...not quite so active on Saturday...but a solid tourney and AA finish. 149 Hynick brought home a few points with his throw/pin and some quality experience. 157 Cornejo stomped arse through the back door and avenged his front side loss for a third place finish. He just started a little too tight. Yust (174) just never got going. Enyobi (184)gave it his all every match...to the last second...and he had some of the prettiest blast doubles of the tourney. Rencountre (197)looked very tough on Friday...and a little flat on saturday...but a solid tourney overall. Big Ben Hohensee (HWT) really should have been in the finals (against a guy he has beat)...he was up 5-1 with 30 seconds left in his semis match...he just shut down and got clipped. He had a great tourney though...I'm excited for his chances next year.

Iowa central is operating a different kind of program and they will continue to be a formidable foe for the coming years. Meremac was much stronger than I expected...they were legit. I don't know if they will have that kind of talent next year though. North Iowa is operating under that Iowa Central type of system too...they will be tough. If you get a bunch of stud non-qualifiers from around the nation (or world)...you can always put yourself in the mix. It's nice to see Renfro develop regional talent the way he does. Most of the guys we wrestled with would never see the light of day on an Iowa Central team...but we can go with all of them. Next year...

The Pratt boys really wrestled solid through the back door. They were victims of bracketing throughout the tourney. I am excited to see what next year brings.

I havent had a chance to look at all the brackets, but Colby appears to have had a little bad luck in the bracketing as well:

125 Adilov's 2 losses were to the 4th and 5th place finishers.

133 Mainus' 2 losses were to the 1st and 3rd place finishers.

141 Kumbarov's losses were to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

Adilov, Kumbarov and Palmore all could/should have won their matches in the AA round.

Adilov gave up big points early and checked it in.

Lubo was in complete control until late in the 2nd when he decided to see how high he could ride before he gave up a defensive fall (and he stuck his head out too far).

And Palmore tried to set up his favorite counter to the single leg five times. He got one takedown and gave up four takedowns + back points.....not a great strategy.

Mainus wrestled like his life depended upon it, but made a mistake that cost him the match.

Tough round for Colby.....
