The Burlington Wrestling Club is excited to announce the start of a new summer wrestilng league. It will be called the Southeast Kansas Takedown League.

It will be held at the Burlington High School Wrestling on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The first night will be Tuesday, June 3rd and will run for 5 weeks through Tuesday, July 1st. The fee for the league is $35 which includes a t-shirt and insurance coverage.

The League is open to wrestlers in Grades 3 through 12 for the 2008-2009 school year. We will be working on 3 mats, and we will limit the enrollment to the first 75 wrestlers that mail-in completed enrollments.

Each night we will weigh-in, warm-up, stretch, takedown drill, have a 20-minute technique session, and 50 minutes of takedown competition.

We will cover the starting technique of 4 different takedown series including fireman's carry, slide-by, low-single and sweep single. Each week the takedown competitions will be a different activity and will culminate with a Takedown Tournament the last night.

Eric Luedke will make a guest appearance the final evening as well, and he will be showing the start of his sweep single series!!

We are sending a PDF version of our flyer to Mike Juby with the hopes that it will be posted under the Camps/Clinic section.

Alright guys. I stand corrected. Well, actually I am sitting and typing, so I am sitting corrected!! I meant to say that attendees will get better on their "feet."

The plans are to focus on takedown shots/attacks, in terms of the nightly technique sessions. However, as part of the live takedown competitions, almost an hour per night, I think you will get better in this area. Plus, we will have several area coaches in attendance who you could seek out to get help on takedown defense/counter-offense.

We are getting more responses and questions about the Southeast Kansas Takedown League. Interest from several area high schools and wrestling clubs.

A common question that we have gotten is about the age of wrestlers. We are basing this on grade level for the 2008-2009 school year. We will be taking 3rd through 12th graders.

This should be an exciting event, and we hope this can turn into an annual event!!

Things are starting to take shape. We have over 30 confirmed wrestlers so far with more registration forms and e-mails coming in everyday. So far, we have wrestlers from Chanute, Iola, West Elk, Garnett, Burlingame, Prairie View and Burlington.

Another great night on Tuesday evening. Wrestlers worked on a fireman's carry series for 20 minutes. Then had 50 minutes of live wrestling in different takedown competitions/games.
