Wrestling Places Three at Labette Takedown

Monday, 3 November, 2008

The PCC Wrestling team opened their season on Saturday, placing three of their six wrestlers in the Labette Takedown Tournament in Parsons, KS.

The Beavers were led by Paul Cabbage, who took third at 177 lbs. Ralph Major placed fourth at 187, and Ryan Cox also took fourth in the heavyweight division.

The Pratt wrestling team lost their home opener to #4 nationally ranked Labette on Thursday night, 39-3. Despite the disparity in scoring, the Beavers wrestled well, but early season mistakes cost them in close matches.

In one of the most unfortunate outcomes of the night, Scott Wise (who wrestled at 149 lbs) had a season ending injury that will require surgery.

The only win of the night came at 197 lbs with Tyler Downs. It was a hard fought match for both men, but Tyler came out on top with a takedown in overtime to win the match. The Pratt Beavers wrestle again on Sat., Nov 8th against Newman at 2:00pm. Coach Medrano would like to thank everybody that came and supported the Beavers on Thursday night.

i heard that kevin callahan is going to transfer to pratt for the spring semester. has anyone heard this, as a for sure thing?

That is what some of the boys are hearing that are on the team. But no official word yet.

James sparks from emporia will be going to Pratt starting second semester.

It is official now, Kevin Callahan is transfering to Pratt but will redshirt this Spring.
