tank burns and cj are disqualified, because chuck norris is an illegal practice partner. the whole columbus team may have to forfeit their matches because of this. except for bt o'hara and kyle johnson, those two wrestle cows and goats. even though it's quite disturbing, it's perfectly legal.

I agree that Mitchell Means deserves to be mentioned. He has one loss to a Missouri kid, but has been very dominant otherwise. Obviously I'm bias, but I think MM is a very exciting wrestler to watch. Problem is, that I hear he's only the second toughest Means in the room. wink

The problem is.... the list is called the Fab Seven. There can only be 7 wrestlers. There are several that are very close. Nitcher, Cokeley, Means, Arnberger, Kriss, Finney and many more deserve mentioning, but only 7 can make the list.

Last weekend's brackets at the Rose Hill tournament that he wrestled at indicate that he is 38-0. That is still an outstanding record at this point in the season.

the record on the bracket was wrong... the the sheet the wrestlers filled out for the finals said he was 41-0 before that match. i believe that over what the bracket said.

Was probably 38-0 to start the tourney, and it took 3 matches to get to finals, so 41-0 before the finals. I believe the post above said he was 42-0 after winning. Vince was stating record before tournament I would guess.

Actually I was going by the bracket which stated that he was 34-0 at the start of the tournament. If he is 42-0 that is great for Chase. He is having an incredible year whether he is at 38-0 or 42-0. He would be in great position to set the state single season win record (currently at 46) if he is currently at 42-0.

(add on edit paragraph): I thought the Rose Hill bracket was correct at the 38-0 because I noticed that in checking about three other random wrestlers that their records on the team listing were the same as the bracket results indicated. Chase's team listing shows him at 38-0 which is consistent to the bracket listing as were the other three records I checked. I will admit I am so interested in this is that we thought my son also had an outside shot at the single season win record of 46 this season. My son is at 35-0 and his team did not wrestle last weekend. Both Chase and my son are having great years and I hope they both finish the year well and it would be great if one of them got the record.

All Fab 7 are truly fabulous. Chuck however could not be the Fab 7 because that would be saying that collectively the before mentioned Fab 7 would be equal to Chuck, and we all know that cannot be the case.
As for the Fab of the Fab 7, my unbiased opinion based on years of observations and individual accomplishments of said Fab 7 is that no one could be more Fabulous than Caldwell and Beard. They are both 4xers (knock on wood) and have both won on a national level. Yes, Napier has won at a very high level also and other than one mistake as a freshman, he is a 4xer (knock on wood). Yes, Napier is a beast, but Beard is a big beast. Beard is really amazing when you consider his size. He has dominated everyone this year. I wouldn't make a blanket statement about his ability to bump up to Cotton either. Cotton has great athletic ability but Beard has great athletic ability specifically innate to wrestling. He has great skills and technique as well. No disrespect to Cotton, but he would have struggled with Beard in my opinion. Even if Beard couldn't bump up to beat Cotton, that should not detract from his fabulousness because we have weights for a reason. If Caldwell is one, then Beard must be two and vice versa. They should probably be Co-Fab. Napier should/would be a disputed three. These, I believe are the Fab 3, or the Fab Triad if you will.
Nelson and Detmer have won at a high level as well. They just have not been as dominate over the last 4 years as the others in my opinion.
Maple and Watson are as slick as they come with great potential but also have not dominated over the 4 years like Beard, Caldwell and Napier. They also have not achieved at as high a level nationally.
I agree that Means is one of the slickest most exciting kids I have ever watched and is probably as deserving as some of the others mentioned in the Fab 7. Means has performed well nationally and is just of few points short of being a 4xer
(knock on wood). Based on that, it should be the Fab 8.
I guess if you throw in Nitcher it would be the Fab 9, and with that in mind, I think we should throw one more out and make it an even Fab 10 or perhaps just the Top Ten. No, Fab 10 sounds better doesn't it.
These are my unbiased opinions.

xghswc, it wasn't a blanket statement, about beard. it was a statement about caldwell's ability to dominate in four different WEIGHT classes. as you pointed out we do have different classes, and tyler has jumped from 112 to 160, over four years. the reason i mentioned cotton is that i believe last year we would be talking about a fab 1, cotton. really shouldn't be much debate about that one. you don't sound too sure in your statement about beards ability to wrestle with cotton. i think alot of people questioned caldwell's ability to gain so much weight, then wrestle 2 "top 10" wrestlers, and win. that is why i asked about jumping weight. caldwell's presence at 160, seems to have made at least 1 wrestler decide to move up in weight. much like elliot did a year ago, to ensure a state championship, by not wrestling cotton. jmo.

The wrestler who moved up in weight did so at his coaches request.

Cotton and Elliott came to a mutual agreement to wrestler in different weight classifications due to their close personal relationship. To imply Elliott was ducking Cotton is an insult to Scott Elliott and his competitive spirit.

On many occasions a coach places their wrestler(s) in the classification where the coach believes the wrestler will score the most TEAM points in order to win the TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP. (Hint at why the Heights wrestler will be at 171 and not 160 lbs.)

Not that I think Chase Nelson is the most dominant wink . But when he was a freshman (First year wrestler) he was 103 lbs.
He won his first state championship as a Sophomore (112 lbs)
He won his Second state championship as a Junior (135 lbs)
He is currently ranked #1 in the state at (171 lbs) and weighes out of practice daily at 163-164 lbs.

Do you think it is possible, that if he would of had 1 or 2 years experience coming into high school (just one or two)not the 8-10 the other guys have.. that he might be going for his 4th title right now and be considered dominant? haha!

103-112 = +9 lbs
112-135 = +23 lbs total move up 32 lbs
135-171 = +36 lbs total move up 68 lbs

smile Have a blessed day!
