Do you think it is funny that the Liberal regional has to start early and finish early due to a basketball game Sat. night. They put in for a regional which 7 teams have to stay the night and they have a basketball game that night. Once again wrestling taking the backseat to another athletic director.

Why have a regional at Liberal, basket ball or wrestling. For wrestling, all except the home tea, Liberal, are traveling from the wichita area. What is that 200 250 miles, 4 to 5 hours. You want to talk saving money, let the farest away do the most traveling---life is a pain and then you die.

I don't think that any one in this regional can touch crank thats just my input and Zane might not even make the finals.

Great Bend, Hays, and Hutchinson aren't exactly suburbs of Wichita. Give Liberal a break, they have to travel to Wichita every year for state including this year so I think the Wichita area schools should feel fortunate they only have to travel and stay in a hotel for one night. Unlike, Liberal, Hays, and Great Bend who have to travel a distance nearly every year for regionals and state.

But it is ridiculous that they are having a basketball game the same night of the tournament. You think the administration could move it around to help out with the completion that will bring in more money for your community.

Again, We feel very fortunate to host the Regional here in Liberal. We welcome all the visiting teams and their families. No one knows the road to Liberal, better than the kids and their families who participate in anything that represents our school. We have to travel many miles to compete all year long - not just across town or 30 miles away, so we do know and appreciate the long trip to get here, so quit complaining and enjoy the time spent with your team mates traveling and relax. By glad that you are from whichever team that you are from and that if traveling is an issue - be glad you don't represent LHS! We would travel wherever the road takes us to represent our school - gladly!

My senior at Liberal year we spent 17 nights in motels for wrestling. We went to Las Vegas,NM, Norton, KS, Hutchison, Newton three times, Kapaun, Amarillo, TX, Salina, El Dorado, Garden City, Dodge City, Hays, La Junta,CO, and we had one home dual against Ulysses!

For football, back in the 90's, Liberal had to travel to the Wichita area for two of their three district games, then back again for regionals, over to Salina for sub-state (the two Salina teams played each other and the ROAD team won even though they share the same stadium), and then to Lawrence for the State Finals. Now quit whining about the other teams having to go there once in a great while. Speaking of whiners, one year Pittsburg was supposed to play at Liberal in the soccer playoffs. They complained to KSHSAA and got the game moved to Wichita!

Liberal deserves the regional and a travel break every now and then! Go Angry Red! (Gotta lovem for stickn' to their non PC mascot!)

I think the point is that if you can't host the regional tourney the way it is in the state handbook then you shouldn't host a regional until you can.

Liberal deserves a regional. Can we wait until they can do it the way all other 5a regionals are doing it?

I am curious. Is the handbook you are referring to online somewhere? I looked in the KHSAA handbook and don't see anything specific. What are you referring to "if you can't host the regional tourney the way it is in the state handbook"?

The KSHSAA published a Wrestling Manual in October. Section three (3) of the manual is titled Regional Tournament Information and includes a "suggested" time schedule for each regional tournament.

The manual also provides "The time schedule designated by the KSHSAA may be amended by the tournament manager, provided prior approval is obtained from the KSHSAA and schools assigned to that regional are in agreement with the revised schedule. School team head coaches should be advised of any modifications of time schedule."
