If two Sub Districts each have three wrestlers, and all show up for Districts (6 wrestlers, 8 man bracket), do the two byes automatically enter as the fourth seeds or are they still drawn into the bracket?

I would think the 4th automatically becomes the bye. Since there is not another seeding meeting at districts - Not positive on this one - but with 1 vs 4 and 3 vs 2 format - the bye should be awarded to the guy that took first in each subdistrict.

How do they typically seed? I seen what was listed on the state page but that is not how it is seeded at district. I always wondered why the 1st or 2nd seed gets the bye. Is there a science to that. I watched a tourney where the bracket was really tough and the top seed received the bye. The top seed was fresh and ready to rumble while the other boy was a bit worn from a tough, tough first match. How do coaches and parents know how many kids are in a bracket for subs-to make their kid change brackets or drop weight, etc. The first year my son wrestled I thought maybe someone just lost weight from exercise and working so hard. The second year I caught on to what they were doing. It's crazy. Changing rankings, weight changes, byes and all the above. I want my kid to do well and win but not at his expense for health or emotional welfare. If he wins I am happy and if he loses we are sad and work a little more. What are we teaching our kids when we learn to alter the system? Just something for people to respond to.. food for thought.

There are no draws in the district brackets. Everything is seeded based on subdistrict results. Here is are how the seeds are determined:

Seed #1 - Sub A 1st
Seed #2 - Sub B 1st
Seed #3 - Sub A 2nd
Seed #4 - Sub B 2nd
Seed #5 - Sub A 3rd
Seed #6 - Sub B 3rd
Seed #7 - Sub A 4th
Seed #8 - Sub B 4th

If both subdistricts have only three wrestlers, the #7 & #8 seeds would be open, giving first round byes to the #1 & #2 seeds.

D1 12/under 68 has the byes going to 1 & 3 seed.

I cant even pull the bracket up for D1 12U 68. Byes should go to the North 1st Kral and 2nd place finisher Cavanaugh.

this is crazy but i guess I don't know; how does it work if there were 11 in the bracket in the south and 3 in the bracket in the north? How does that seeding work?

Not sure where your question is coming from. The best way to look at these it to first look in each of the Sub-District's on Trackwrestling.

The East had 5 wrestlers that wrestled.
The West had 2 wrestlers that wrestled.

That is how they ended up with 7 in the bracket.

The 5th place wrestler on the East side sits in the 3rd place spot on the west side.

I wasn't aware you could take more than 4 kids from one age/weight class from the sub district tournament to district. If that's the case, if one district had 8 kids, and the other district had 0 kids, could all kids move on to district.....also, can you take more than the top four from a district to state if another district cant fill the age/weight group?

Greg,

Two years ago I posed this question to someone who should have known the answer (I can't remember who, but they were in a position to know). The answer I was given is that they only take four wrestlers from each District to wrestle at State, and if there were vacancies from Districts with less than four wrestlers, those slots would become byes. At that time they were allowing wrestlers from Subs that were heavy to fill in Subs that were light to wrestle at Districts, just not at State.

The irony to Jim Lund's senerio above would be that the kid who took 5th would move into a 3rd place seed and actually have a better seed in the tournament than a kid who beat that kids out at sub-districts and took 4th; I don't think that works.

I know we can take up to 6 from either side to fill the bracket. If there where no wreslters from one sub district, I don't see why you could not take all eight ( my opion not sure what the District 3 rule is ).

If there was one from one and eight from the other sub-district, my guess would be only 6 could wrestle, since we did not wrestle for 7th and 8th.

Remember that I'm talking from a District 3 data entry person point of view. When I question something, I do my best to get an interpertation from our District 3 Director ( Lance ). If another district runs there District Tournament different I can't say.

As for what happens at State, I'll let someone else chime in here.

I would have assumed all districts ran their tournaments the same way....being it a qualifiing tournament and all. This blows my mind.

We have even a better senario. 12U 140. 6 wrestlers from the west, 0 wrestler from the east.

The 5th seed at the west's sub is the east's 1st seed, the 6th seed at the west's sub is the east's 2nd seed.

I would assume also that they are run all the same, I just don't want to talk out of place. I have been talking with Lance about this. It has not been a discussion with all directors.

Being the State Qualifing Tournament, I would hope everything was done the same.

RSS5,

It is kind of a quirky deal, and I believe that you make a very good point. You would think the 5th place wrestler would not be seeded higher than the 4th place wrestler. I have thought about it a little longer now (I think smoke is coming from my ears), so I better just leave that question for someone else to answer.
