Although I would agree there needs to be only one tournament where the kids who place are considered all americans I do think it is an honor to place at most of these national tournaments. My sons bracket at Liberty had state placers not even place and 2 state champions wrestle for 3rd and 4th. You just don't find that deep of a bracket at a local tournament.

You should go to tulsa nationals or tulsa kick off. I guarantee you will find the tough matches your looking for. I can also say that to get on the podium at tulsa is a huge honor for any wrestler, coach or parent I have met since we started wrestling. I do understand your point. Libery national & brute natoinals dont compare to Tulsa. I like the idea of a kansas national tournament. The central location may draw some good numbers. Liberty & Brute are over priced & I think this might be the problem with the numbers at these tournaments.

hahahahaha! this is quite laughable.

What is really laughable is someone lobbying against a Kansas tournament especially with the economy the way it is. Can't afford the kickoff this year but would love the opportunity for my kids to see some fresh faces from different states that have skill. See, didn't call it a national tournament did I? Kind of implied it though. wink

ummm, never lobbied against the tournament...just pointed out some things, that actually, you pointed out as well.

with the economy the way it is, what makes anyone think that people from other states are going to come here to yet another "national" tournament, when there's already one in their backyard? Just like I said before, it'll just turn into a large local tournament, just like Wichita classics has become. Don't take part of what I wrote and misconstrue the point.

here's a "short" list of what I can think of, off the top of my head, for national tournaments that are offered:
tulsa nats
Cliff Keen kickoff
Reno worlds
Rocky Mntn nationals
Big horn nationals
panhandle nats
cotton bowl classic
CA world challenge
IL Winter classic
Dixie nats
USJOC
Indy nats
Liberty nats
folkstyle tour of america events
ohio TOC
Brute nats

Not to mention the actual USAW national events.

That's ridiculous. Period.

I'm all for Kansas events, believe me, I've tried to pull off a few in my day. What I'm against is calling what is basically a local tournament a "national" just because someone says so. 80% Kansas kids, 15% OK kids and 5% elsewhere kids, in a Wichita arena does not constitute a national tournament in my opinion, and that's what a preseason Kansas national will be if its at the end of November.

My personal opinions aside, I still wish good luck to the organizers and promoters in trying to get this event off the ground and making it stick around.

They can call it whatever they want if it brings in quality competition here locally and is a good experience for the kids who attend. You can call it worlds, Nationals, or whatever, but its the quality wrestlers who make it a tough tournament not the name.

I just hope everyone stays positive on this event. People from other states get on here and read these comments.
If we are beating on it from the get go it might discourage people from coming and all we are doing is limiting Ks wrestlers from another great opportunity for great competition without spending an arm & a leg and traveling to another state.
I think this has a chance to be really big. Bigger then some of the CK events that were post on another thread.
We held a LOCAL event last year in a H.S. that had 600 kids and 5 states. That's not near as big as some of the others you see around here.
A few years of positive support and great effort and this could be as big as Tulsa or any of those others.
Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot from the get go.

I just had a PM reminding me that the Kickoff is the week right before so I bet IF the Panhandle Nationals does switch weekend it will be the 1st weekend in Dec.
That's IF they switch!
