This weekend I wrestled for finals and was behind. From neutral the kid shot in on me and I put in a leg cradle. The ref called the move illegal because it's a figure 4 from the neutral position which is illegal, but I was wondering if the leg cradle was different. I will post a link to the video of the leg cradle. I lost the match and am okay with that, I just want to know for future reference, and I am sure many other wrestlers do too.

it looks like the figure four made it illegal, had you not slid the leg to the knee, rather crossed feet instead, it would have been legal.

but i am not sure, richard would need to clarify. to be sure.

good question though. asked in a very mature manner.

I am unsure of whether or not that was called correctly, but it was a pretty slick move regardless

The figure-4 head scissors is a technical violation in the neutral position but you were in a pinning combination which should also alleviate this as being considered neutral as you had the other wrestler on his back.

It still looks even more questionable as your foot was not in the crook of your knee but in the calf, the other kids arm was also hooked in there so it makes the referee's call even more questionable.

Thanks, it's just hard to know what makes it legal or illegal.

The ref made a bad call on this one. You had a perfecty legal leg cradle.
Its not a move you see every tourny so im sure he was just trying to protect the other wrestler, just sucks for you.

Looked like maybe you had a key-lock (over-scissor) on the kid when you locked out his ankle. Not sure though, but nice move nonetheless.

Nice move. Your were fine...I think my12floz has it analyzed correctly. A leg cradle is uncommon, it looks illegal, but of course it is not. I've seen two in 15 years and fortunately let them both continue but in each case I was giving them a close look and people were shouting "ILLEGAL" at the top of their lungs. There was no overscissors either, the pressure was with the joint, not against it. I'm sure the ref knows he made an error if he's looked at the film or been asked about it.

WOW! Power, Speed, Quickness, Athleticism, and more Power (not to mention some pretty creative moves).

Also, to the young man that posted this thread, that was a very nice move.

btw i saw a 14u, hit a leg cradle, at a usa kids NOVICE tournament this weekend. what does everyone else think about a "novice" kid pulling off a leg cradle.

Headup,

We wrestled that kid in the tournament. At first, I was thinking the same as you.....leg cradle.....novice.....how can that be. However, I watched him wrestle a couple of more matches (now this is not intended to disparage the young wrestler, it is meant to defend him), that was his best move. If he got you in that he was scoring....pretty impressive. But, outside of that move he looked like a borderline Novice to me with the rest of his matches. Again, this is not to disparage the kid but I can understand where his coach was coming from when putting him in the Novice.

Just my 2 cents.

Matt Oliver, Newberry College's All American hit the leg cradle at least ten times last year, it was his signature pinning combination. He made it look too easy, even when wrestling college kids

my point on teaching novice kids something like this is like this: sometimes wrestlers get in a "groove" or "rut" and use a signature move too much, then fail to put in the work on the basics needed to succeed at a higher level. i know there are exceptions to every rule. i just have my way of thinking, and was looking for other points of view. thanks shawn, aldon.
