3. All sanctioned tournaments must comply with the rules in the annual publication by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA), unless otherwise specified in this document. The following modifications refer to the NFSHSA rule that has been modified.

Rule 4-4-2

9 & 10

Not only that, the weight spread is moot for State Qaulifying. If you're the only one in yr bracket at subs, you go on to Districts unopposed.

Have even seen 5 or 6 man brackets at State in some weights.

Had a 10 yo HWT a few years back..solo at Subs, 2 man bracket at District, 6 man bracket at State.
Walked all the way to a medal.
Stuff happens

Thanks for the info. We have a kid in our subs bracket that I know is right at 30 pounds heavier that my son. I wonder if they will move him to his own bracket?

What does he weigh? If he is over 170 he can't wrestle.

That is what I thought, but there has been a few kids this year that has weighed over 170 and they wrestled. There is a kid from Wichita East that did and one from Jackson County and this one from Mill Valley.
I don't care if they wrestle, I was just asking the max weight difference.
I know last year the kid from Mill Valley was in his own bracket at subs and only had 2 in regionals.

During the regular season, most tournaments make every effort to get matches for each wrestler, even if they have to combine weights to do so. As long as they don't exceed the maximum weight allowances, as discussed earlier in this thread, this is permitted.

At the qualifying tournaments, there is an additional restriction. The Kids Constitution, Section III, Part B.13 states, in part, that
Quote:
No additional age or weight classes are allowed. At no time will a wrestler be permitted to wrestle out of their age division.
Thus, for the subdistrict, district and state tournaments, the weight classes identified by Coachjt in the second post in this thread are correct.

The boy from Wichita East is trying to lose his pounds before weighins so he can wrestle. He and the coaches are aware of the weight restrictions. If he doesn't make it, then he won't wrestle the rest of this year.

We have a 187lb 10yr old on our team this year. No one told us that he could not wrestle, until after the seeding mtg. He is very disappointed now and will probably not be back next year. We were told that he would get his entry fee back. If there is a 20lb weight difference in the 10 year old class and there is a kid who weighs 170, why can't they wrestle?? That's only 17 lbs. Any explanation would be great considering that someone previously said that kids have been unopposed @ the sub-district level and have been allowed to advance. HELP!!!
