Colleges in Kansas across the state are investing in educational opportunities for individuals with a wrestling talents and interest. Look at the number of new programs, new coaching opportunities, wrestlers from in and out of state now enrolled in college - awesome!!!

You have made a difference! Thank you and please continue to support the Kansas College Wrestling Fund.

In 1992 Kansas had an estimated 180 collegiate wrestler student/athletes and 6 college programs (1 Four year college and 5 - Two-year colleges. Fast forward 24 years
there are now nearly 450-500 collegiate opportunities for wrestling student/athletes and 10 or 11 new programs (9 - four year colleges, and 7 community colleges and 2 women programs currently and possibly more on the way. Several of my former youth wrestlers were able to continue their education in Kansas. Some of those and many others would not have had the opportunities if the various colleges did not add a new wrestling program. Keep the ball rolling Kansas!!

Very well said, Sean. Thank you for your leadership in supporting this effort for our Kansas wrestling community to help fund the continued growth of college wrestling in Kansas. Thanks also to all of the members of the Kansas wrestling community who have contributed to the Kansas College Wrestling over the past several years.

Dear Friend of KCWF, October 15, 2016

The Kansas College Wrestling Fund was authorized and established by the USA Wrestling, Inc.-Kansas nearly five years ago in the summer of 2011. It is the mission of the KCWF to provide financial support for Kansas Colleges and universities with active college programs. In the past five years you have been a donor to this fund. Thank you for your past financial support!

Your donations have benefited the 13 Kansas colleges & universities. This number will grow to sixteen programs (womens’s programs are among the 16 currently) this year with the additions at Central Christian College, Saint Mary College, Cloud County CC These wrestling programs have benefited many former Kansas youth and high school wrestlers in the past five years. This past year there were approximately 160 former Kansas youth and high school wrestlers on the thirteen active Kansas colleges wrestling rosters.

There have been several Kansas wrestling All Americans and Academic All Americans at these Kansas colleges over the past five years.

Twelve years ago there were only 6 college programs in Kansas with wrestling. At that time there was 1 four-year college and 5 community college programs. The 2016-17 school year in Kansas will have a total of 16 schools with collegiate wrestling in Kansas. There will be 9 four-year colleges and 7 community colleges around the state providing opportunities for these young student athletes.

You have helped all of these young wrestlers further their wrestling careers in college and more importantly, their academic and career pursuits with your generous support. Over the last five years, the Kansas College Wrestling Fund has generated $91,600 in revenue, paid distribution checks totaling $43,000 and had $11,500 of total 5 year operating expenses. The projected remaining endowment balance should be approximately $42,700 after the annual distributions are sent to the colleges – in September/October of 2016. During the first five years, 180 individual donors, 30 businesses and 268 clubs, KS USA Wrestling and other wrestling organizations contributed to this effort. We are hoping that you will donate again this year. And, we hope to add each year to the number of our donors and the size of our distributions to each college.

Please help these Kansas colleges/university wrestling programs and the young wrestlers of Kansas by donating again this year.

Thank you,

Sean McCarthy

KCWF Wrestling Committee and the USA WKS Wrestling Board,
At this time I am stepping down as the Chairman of the KCWF Committee for personal reasons, other reasons and health reasons.
It has been my pleasure and a lot of fun helping the Kansas College Wrestling Programs and USA Wrestling Kansas Kids.
Thank you,

Win Win - promoting our KS Colleges and having those coaches and athletes mentoring KS Kids, and HS wrestlers and keeping the money in the state.

What about discounted commuter camps, duals at our KS colleges and make it available to all the Kansas USA kids and keep some of those funds in the state. Just a thought. Or host some duals in Kansas. I think it would be a good use for some of the fees that our club wrestlers, other clubs and families pay. We only have about 100 kids this year (1,500 -2,000 wrestlers over the last 25 years) - but over the years that adds up and has help the USAWKS Fund balance..

What do the schools have to do to receive funding? Is there an application or something they have to do?

There is a LOA - Letter of Understanding that gets mailed to the colleges in April every year. It should be mailed out to the active college programs in April. The Kansas College Wrestling Fund (KCWF) is in a transition period and Mike Juby is the Treasurer of that committee. The KCWF has funds saved over the last five years. I believe some clubs and individuals are still donating to the fund. I have had some contacts with clubs that donated $1 per entry fee from their tournament. I told them to just mail it to Mike Juby as they have in the past.

I promise The Kansas College Wrestling Fund will reappear without the current Vice Chairman involved and it may have a different name - It may be in a different form. I and other committee members decided to not volunteer working 400 to 500 hours per year (in total 800-1,000 per year or 2 people) raising funds for the Kansas colleges - When the Vice Chairman was sending emails like I will kick the KCWF Committee's ass (12 or 13 members and their constituents) and raise funds solely for Ft Hays ( I can get the exact email and date if you need to refresh your memory). In addition to that the Vice Chairman said something to the effect that he would send every Junior college potential recruit to out of state Junior Colleges and not promote Kansas schools. - Also, there is an exact email from the Junior college rant – by Will. The Will Cokeley Bylaws are much different than the USA KS Wrestling Bylaws as well as our parent organizations bylaws USA Wrestling National and KSHSAA. I am sure the funds still being raised and in the KCWF fund balance of the current KCWF will be distributed per the parameters set forth by the KCWF Committee and approved by the USA Wrestling KS Board. It may be a long road establishing a Kansas Collegiate Wrestling Fund and an uphill battle - with the right people for the right reasons it will be worth it. It is very counter productive having our State Freestyle/Greco Director promoting programs for other states and putting a black eye on our state organization. When I hear other state leaders who is that guy getting kicked out of tournaments around the country - I just say that is our State Freestyle/Greco Director - their response "really"?
I just want our efforts to help provide opportunities to current and future student/athletes. I will devote time to ensure the Kansas Colleges continue to have academic and athletic wrestling opportunities in Kansas. I feel obligated to help these programs grow. It is an exciting time - not many other states can boast adding so many college opportunities for student/athletes and a very significant investment at our great institutions around the state.

Stay true to the mission:

MISSION STATEMENT OF KANSAS COLLEGE WRESTLING FUND:

It is the mission of the Kansas College Wrestling Fund to provide financial support for Kansas colleges and universities with active college wrestling programs. This financial support to Kansas colleges and universities will help provide wrestling, academic and eventual career opportunities for student athlete wrestlers in the State of Kansas.

If it looks like a duck, flys like a duck, sounds like a duck - it's probably a duck.

True or False:

So this is not the cooperation the KCWF committee had been hoping for from Mr. Cokeley over the last 5 – 6 years.

Comment below from our Freestyle/Greco Director Fall of 2016 and at the time Vice Chairman of the KCWf

"I will send every quality kid from KS to Iowa for a jr college opportunity."
