Looking at the calendar of sanctioned events, you may notice the Novice on Sunday, without the Open listed on Saturday December 17th. We still had a little hurdle to climb before we could for sure put this date on the calendar and sanction the event in regards to getting our venue. The paperwork has been finalized with getting our venue for the 17th. Therefore, we will be turning in the sanction paperwork to get our tournament back on the calendar as soon as possible. I am still working on the flyer for the tournament and will have it out as soon as I iron out a few things.

For now, the tournament is already up on trackwrestling and below is the link:

http://www.trackwrestling.com/opentournaments/VerifyPassword.jsp?tournamentId=20592009

We will be again looking for satellite weigh-in locations this year as this greatly helped out the flow of the tournament and having no Saturday weigh-in for the Open.

Thank you.

Back on the Calendar. Sorry for that, but there is apparently a wedding being held on Dec. 17th as well at the high school at 5 pm. we had to make some concessions for this wedding party (traffic redirect for parking, no use of the commons area, blocking any interference between the tournament and the wedding just down the hall, etc.) Anyhow, with the plan that we have in making sure that we do not interrupt the wedding, we were finally able to convince the district to allow us to host our tournament on our date of Dec 17th. With that there will be some minor changes to the tournament. First and foremost, we are keeping with a split format and having the Novice on Sunday the 18th. Only other change is that we will have the 14U group going in the morning session in the Aux Gym along with the 6U and 8U in the Main Gym. This is due to time constraints mostly, and in my past experiences the 14U need full size mats and this can push the end time a little long. We need to be completing matches up sometime before the wedding starts so this move, I believe will help with us getting out of the afternoon session as early as possible. In the past, we have run the 14U on Friday to alleviate time constraints, however, this is not an option this year and since we took the Novice out of the mix on Saturday I believe that we can meet our time demands and still get the proper rest between matches for the kids and meet the demands of the wedding party.

We will see, not everything always goes perfectly to the plan. As for now, we have penciled in our dates with the district for the next several years so that this situation does not arise again (hopefully)

Thank you for your support and your patience as we have had to juggle yet another obstacle.

And please parents and coaches, it is not the Olympics, so even if your kid hasn't had the full amount of rest, just wrestle the match. Don't hold up a tourney because poor little Billy hasn't had the fully alloted time between matches. I don't know what that alloted time is, because I don't care what it is, because my kids won't have an option to have that time. They are wrestling when it is their turn to wrestle, rest or no rest. That's how you can get in better shape. For example, our room went live for 30 minutes straight tonight. Every one of them, somehow, some way, survived..........So asking a kid to wrestle a 3,4,5,7 minute match, then a few minutes later, asking him to wrestle again, is not a big deal.

Still looking to confirm satellite weigh-in locations for Friday Dec. 16th for the Dec. 17th tournament.

I am also looking for Home-weigh-in opportunities for the Novice tournament on Sunday weigh-ins need to be completed on Saturday for the Novice and we will allow home clubs to weigh their own kids in so long as I get an email with the weights on Saturday.

any questions regarding home/satellite weigh-in procedures, please email me at derbywrestling@gmail.com

Thanks in advance, looking forward to a great tournament.

Sincerely,

Looking for a North/Northwest Wichita club to host a satellite weigh-in for next Friday evening. Any takers?

I am also willing to have Home weigh-in options on Friday for travel considerations for the Open wrestlers, and on Saturday for the Novice. By travel considerations, I prefer to allow clubs outside of the Wichita Metro area to only perform Home weigh-ins. For more details please email me at derbywrestling@gmail.com

The trophies are in, and they are looking AWESOME! Below is the pic I just took. I added our 4" Medal to give some perspective. These trophies are 9.5" tall and weigh about 4 lbs each.

If a kid wrestles Open and Novice tourneys, do they need to weigh in for both tourneys, or will the Friday weighin be good enough?
