I'm curious to see how many wrestlers have achieved 150 or more wins over their high school careers. My guess is there have been quite a few.

If my count is correct, Sam Son of Chanute should hit the 150 varsity wins mark this weekend in Rose Hill. He currently is at 149.

Who else might hit that mark this year? Or is at least on pace to hit it.

I think there is about 25 or so wrestlers in KS history that have accomplished this. The all-time records list the top 20 and it stops at 151. So it's just a guess on my part there could be 5 more with 150 that sit just outside the top 20. There will be more kids in the near future that break that mark then before, since teams are wrestling more matches then they did years ago. We still get about 10 less per year than Missouri.

Early contracts to Sam! (I am sure he will squeak out at least one more win this year if not run the table). Others that could break this year....Conner Middleton, Bo Pursel, Austin Hood, Alex Bontz, Dylan Shumacher, Konner Kriss. There might be more.

Here's a link to the High School records that show the 150+ wins. I'm sure its pretty accurate, but may not include everyone. I hadnt looked at it before, but I'm pretty comfortable that there is at least one wreslter not listed that reached 150+ wins, so there could be others. smile

Hopefully all of these wrestlers reach that milestone this year!

I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but wouldn't it be great if there was an All-Class State Tournament that would recognize these accomplishments. The wrestlers deserve to be recognized and the fans would love to hear about these feats. Maybe some day...

Wow, best of luck to those wrestlers as they reach the 150 mark. What an accomplishment for those young men.

If my math is right Conner Middleton is 157-11 and has gone over the 150 win mark. Great job Conner!!!

The preview article for this year had him at 128-10, plus 29-1 this year...

Has the 100 and 150 win marks lost their luster? With dual tournaments there are a lot more matches now days. A guy like Zach Roberson had to win every match just to reach 153 wins that is more impressive than a guy that goes 150-10...right?

It is certainly a moving target. Even within a given season you find a wide spread in the number of potential bouts for the wrestlers. Thankfully the young men are getting more opportunities than we did back in the late 70's when it was rare to see anyone get 100 matches in four years. I think we have to take it for what it is and congratulate these fine young men on surpassing another respectful benchmark in their careers.

Travis24. Of course Roberson's 153 is more impressive. What is your point? These young men have a chance to do what only about 25 men have gone in KS wrestling history. And yes they have more opportunities now. But to win 150 matches is still a huge accomplishment. Only Roberson and Bo Mayne have done undefeated and won 4 titles. Those two stand alone, but does that mean we don't honor a significant accomplishment for these other your men. There have been a ton of great wrestlers in the past ten years that did not win 150 matches. Let the kids have some praise for their hours of work. By the way... How many did you win?

what might be more impressive with all the win total is how many losses they have. 10 or less losses in 4 years is pretty damn good. looking at some of the tournaments that some of these kids wrestle and bringing in out of state competition from new mexico, colorado, oklahoma and missouri thats pretty amazing.

I personally made it a point to tell my boys to never make it a goal to go undefeated. When you lose you get experience that is valuable in life and an opportunity to learn. Push your wrestlers to bump up a weight class, seek the best, and wrestle to perform first and win second.
