Wow, great to have a freestyle wrestling tournament out in the Western part of the state. Tyler you will not remember this! I put on my first freestyle wrestling tournament in 1987 at Shawnee Heights. Coach Bob Cairns, Cherri Elvin, were helping me with the meet and I forgot to order medals. I called Gilberts Trophy in Topeka and all they had in stock Plaques. (funny) Plan on some Manhattan wrestlers. Oh! I gave out plaques first year, next year I had over 100 plus entrys. RMG

Hello Colby FS-GR wrestling club. Plan on Manhattan FS WC being at your tournament. FS coaches had 11 at practice last night. and also several grade schoolers. We have a 8 & U #67 wrestler that would like to particpate in some bouts. Is their some kids in this group?. He has been to all the wrestling practice and Coach Mike Miller said a good kid. I think should have six to seven wrestlers. The prom is Saturday night. But I know Davis Matthews and Kian Clemens mentioned they were attending. RMG

Coach Gonzales,
Your 8U - 67 will have a 3-4 man round robin as of now, could be 4-5 that's just with current registration. I've received 30 entries as of now, but talking with clubs, it looks like a lot of the registrations will get sent to me between Thursday- and Saturday after all the satellite weigh ins. I originally was expecting 65-75 athletes, its now looking at like 85-95 with Nebraska and Colorado sending a few wrestlers. Again, its a rough estimate, but with the "word" of some clubs that the way its looking.

Thank You Tyler. I will let the FS-GR coaches know here in Manhattan today. I am working the JV Track meet today, otherwise I would go over to the gym and tell them personally. RMG

REMINDER THAT FREESTYLE WILL START SOONER. EXACT TIME WON'T BE KNOWN REALLY UNTIL SUNDAY, BUT ITS IN YOUR ATHLETES BEST INTEREST TO BE AROUND AND WATCH THE GRECO-ROMAN MATCHES & TO BE AROUND FOR THE RULES CLINIC AT 10AM. IF I HAD TO GIVE A GUESS FREESTYLE COULD BE STARTING AROUND 12PM (NOON) ON SUNDAY, 2:30PM WAS A ROUGH ESTIMATE.

THANK YOU

We will host a satellite weigh-in immediately following the clinic/RTC session in Scott City for the Trojan Freestyle and Greco Tournament on Sunday, May 29th, 2011.

The weigh in will be conducted from 5:30pm-6:00pm. I encourage all area wrestlers to attend the Clinic/RTC on Saturday, April 27th.

Information for this can be found on this forum.

Wanted to be the first one to post a comment about this tournament. Thanks for hosting it! I felt like you guys did a great job pairing kids for competitive matches and it was very well ran. I thought the announcer did a good job of recognizing the kids and adding some excitement while he announced. Thanks again and we'll be back next year! I encourage anyone interested in Freestyle/Greco to attend this tournament next year!

I also want to say that Coach Gonzales and Coach Nordhues done a great job and the rest of the team. This was a good event for their college program in Colby.

It was great to see all the little greco and freestylers and also to see a good turnout in the middle and high school divisions as well.

One of my sons got 7 matches and the other 10 and I believe the other wrestler that I brought got 9 so plenty of matches in both styles with great competition. It was worth the 3 hr trip from Kearney, NE

Also having the Sunday morning church service was great. It's always good to know that God is there and watching over us every step of the way.

Tyler nice tournament. I really enjoyed the 50 lbs/6 Under guys all six of them would come up and give me fist bump. All of the kids were tough. I like the cross section of Lamar, Wray Colo., Kareney, Grand Island, Wood River.Nebraska, Garden City, Scott City, Dodge City,High School athletes. It was good for the MHS wrestlers. Mark Anderson great on rules clinic, C.J. Napier and Cole Garcia worked the main gym and did a good job. I am sure the Fort Hays guys upstairs on Mat #3 and Mat #4 did a good job as well. Special Thanks to Ms. Grater & Ms. Oaks for posting and updating brackets. The CCC wrestlers did a nice job as the tournament ran smooth. I think Dante Rodriquez of Grand Island wrestled 8-9 bouts. The great thing about our sport you see some good wrestling. A couple of bouts I felt had crowd intrest. Dante and Tevin Brisoe of GC. Briscoe is quick! Grater of Riley County and Oaks of Hoxie that was worth the cost of addmission. Edwards of Dodge City and Little Rodriquez of Neb. Plan on MHS next year and the Indians will dual your team night before. Losing team roll up a mat. I appreciate the Pastor providing a church service and all the wretlers and parents and family members on the mat together. I also appreciate one of Kansas all time great wrestling coaches sitting on the front row and watching wrestling.(Larry Gabel). You and Coach Nordhues and the CCC program are a class act. RMG

Robert,
One of those 50 lbers was mine and your enthusiasm and excitement made it really fun for those kids! My youngest made the comment that the announcer was really cool! It was a fun experience all the way around.

Thank you everyone that attended and helped. Thank you for the kind words. We look forward to hosting the tournament again next year and it being bigger and better. It was a lot of fun to host that tournament. As for results, we don't have anything to really post, the kids took their brackets and everything else was done by hand with bout sheets and brackets. Maybe looking at hosting a folkstyle & or freestyle tournament in the Fall, as well so just an FYI to those interested. Thanks again to all that attended!
