a school classification formula we can all get behind.....
Art. 1: The Kansas Equitable Classification Plan (K.E.C.P.) Economic (40%) Qualifying Criteria: Free and Reduced Lunch Societal (30%) Qualifying Criteria: Minority (50%) Population Draw (25%) Single Household (25%) (Human Resources Qualifier) *potential added 10 points* Enrollment/Compensation (20%) Qualifying Criteria: F.T.E. (50%) Teacher Compensation (50%) Performance (10%) Qualifying Criteria: Historic Performance a. Each of four major criteria receives a score based on qualifying criteria and figure into the final K.E.C.P. formula proportionally as follows: Economic (40%), Societal (30%), Enrollment/Compensation (20%), and Performance (10%). b. Final ranked K.E.C.P. scores for each High School in Kansas are to be divided into seven groups denoting 1A (lowest scores) through 7A (highest scores) classification. c. Under the K.E.C.P. there will be 2-year status for all sports and all sports at a school will be in the same classification. d. The Human Resources Qualifier may be exercised by a school as an appeal of the societal portion of their final K.E.C.P. score if they can show local competition from schools absent of similar social/economic disadvantage within the K.E.C.P. formula, for student population, and/or faculty, and/or staff. This appeal must come after the tentative classifications are announced and before the K.E.C.P. deadline for that classification cycle. e. In the instance that any classification group has between its members a school with double the F.T.E. and final K.E.C.P. score of the lowest ranked school in that same classification, then the classification group will be divided in half with separate championships (i.e. 3A and 3B) without altering numbers in any other classification group. f. Any school that wishes to, may petition to move up to the next higher classification group for competitive reasons. This move will not trigger the automatic addition of another school into their original classification group. In order to be approved, a move up will have to receive a simple majority vote in favor of the move from schools in the larger classification group

I think f. needs to be changed to "Any school that wishes to, may petition to move DOWN to the next LOWER classification group for competitive reasons. There are times this could be true....
On the serious side, it's nothing more than adding politics to what currenty is at least a simple formula. It would be neat to see what the schools would change classifications. Another question is, who would administer this and how much would it cost.

I thought BO's Buffett rule was the most preposterous proposal of all time. This one takes the cake. Seven classifications???? Lets just hand everyone a trophy and medal and save lots of time and money. Absurd!
How about closing about 25% of the 217 smallest schools and reducing the number of counties from 105 to 60.
Apparently someone didn't have a real job or they wouldn't of had time to cook this up. I wonder if the taxpayers who funded the author of this proposal are proud of the use of their funds??
7 Classifications??? Really?!?! What a joke. I say that but we already basically have that many in football, I mean you know we crown two 8man champs every year. Ridiculous.

The state qualifying for most sports is already very watered down as is the state championships. So instead of 4 kids per weight being able to claim a state title we want 7 or 8? And that's not just wrestling. What is it with these liberal educators that love to reward mediocrity? Sorry for the quote but this crap drives me nuts!
In Communism, inequality comes from placing mediocrity on a level with excellence. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

Without question this could go down in history as the bullet that shot wrestling in Kansas in the forehead! I can't believe I even read this. And Beeson, you probably could of used another word, but if they kick you off the forum, I'm just gonna delete my name and never post again b/c you are absolutely right!!!!!!!!
I would rather them make it about money and have 1 state championship tournament to save cost. Now I know that people will say that big schools have an advantage etc etc. However, I have taken some pretty good beatings from Norton and Clay Center in the past to prove that really is not true!
I'm an educator, but I am a "Conservative Republican". I believe in good old fashion hard work and sometimes you are gonna fail and not get what you want! Oh Freakin' Well! Get up, dust yourself off and Keep #Grindin' and get better!
Not everybody can be a state qualifier, placer, champion, All-American, National Champion. If everybody could, then we are all in this for NOTHING! We are in this to teach lessons that will prepare these young men for life. And one of the lessons is, your not always gonna succeed. But when you do fail, and you will, you never quit.
Now I'm all worked up early on a Saturday Morning! Beeson, Will, Blaster.... Let's sick em'!!!

Any chance we as a wrestling community can voice our opinions to Lentz and arrange our sport the way it would best fit us?
After working in a number of jobs I have heard many complaints, my next question to the person that complains is what can we do to make it better. Instead of just complain lets try to find an answer using the system that they decide on.

This is purely a guess on my part but I would say this is a result (at least in part), of the committee that was assigned the task of dealing with the private school multiplier question. In addition, I would bet this is intended to deal with football only or primarily and all other sports classifications would remain somewhat the same as they currently are.

I do agree with this statement Sports. I think we have bigger fish to fry and I think that 7 state champions in football is a joke as well. There should be just ONE 8 man state championship team! Honestly, I don't think there should be 8 man football! A school that cannot field an 11 man team should combine with other schools until they can! For the population that we have in KS I would think that 4 state champions team sports would be plenty. As far as the private school bias, when everyone votes for either vouchering or allows those who PAY for private school to have a property tax reduction then it should be a mute point! Give me a fifty percent tax reduction on my property taxes if my kids are going to a private school and I will gladly bump up a class!
