FACT: kids that wrestle Freestyle and Greco tend to do better and go farther in the sport than the kids that do not.

What the fact really is, is that kids that have much success in folkstyle are fueled by their success, which then makes them more apt to wrestle year round.

That is not always true. I can come up with plenty of examples where kids who had no success in folkstyle still went out and wrestled freestyle and greco. My brothers and I were that way. My high school teammate Zach Pollom started wrestling his freshmen year, had no success at all that year, and every summer wrestled freestyle/greco. He became a state runner up his senior year, and he will tell you that if he didn't put in the work that he did in the summer that he would have never gotten as good as he is.

FACT: Kids that wrestle year round TEND to do better and go farther in the sport than the kids that do not.

This last part here is pretty much restating what I already said.

I think you completely missed the point. First, these are not facts, especially when you use the word TEND. Second, the whole point about not using FR/GR to determine the folkstyle rankings, I think is pretty valid. We are ranking and wrestling folkstyle. After talking with Bryant's dad, he tells me that Bryant is not nearly as skilled or successful with FR/GR as he is with folkstyle, but it doesnt matter because we are wrestling folkstyle. Bryant still beat two of these Fargo AA's this year in folkstyle. So maybe they are better at those styles, but again, who cares this is folkstyle rankings. If we were to rank next years GR/FS guys, would you put Bryant above them because he beat them at folkstyle? I would hope not, and i would bet that Bryant wouldnt feel comfortable with that either. Lastly, i was not pretty much saying the same thing you were, i was saying, if you read my FACT line, that wrestling year round helps make better wrestlers, not just FR/GR wrestling. Bryant's goals are to wrestle college and that is it, and if i remember correctly we are still wrestling folkstyle here in the states at the college level. Lastly, with the level of competition, and an undefeated record, even though Bryant is not an avid FR/GR wrestler, i would say that he has the most impressive record of any H.S. wrestler in the state. Let me know if there is someone out there this year more highly decorated, i would say his year is almost as good as Taylor Moeder's senior year.

I used to wrestle with Jared. I have seen him progress over his high school career. I believe Chief stated Head-Head is the main reason Jared is Ranked ahead of Bryant. Now I know you have stated multiple times you do not believe FR/GR should count but a win is a win is a win. So until they wrestle Folkstyle it is not fair to penalize Jared for beating Bryant head-head in another form of WRESTLING.

1. They are facts and I backed them up. The people that have wrestled FS/GR will probably agree with me. 2. Intermat, Flo, and every other ranking site out there using credentials from FS/GR to sway their rankings, so their must be some relevancy to it. 3. I am not going to argue for or against Bryant Guillen, however I will say that Zac Gentzler, Nathan Butler, and Bryce Shoemaker have had some pretty decorated seasons as well. To say that Bryants season is almost as good as Moeder's senior year is a bit of a stretch. Of course its my bias opinion that Taylor Moeder's senior year is leaps and bounds more successful than anyone's in a long time, but he's my teammate so thats how its going to be.

Again, my argument is not for or against anybody's ranking. It's for FS/GR, because I am an avid believer that the summer styles make you a way better folkstyle wrestler.

InkChief will tell you, me, or anyone else that he looks at competition when ranking wrestlers. Bryant is thereturning champ from his junior year, Jared is not. We cant penalize Bryant for giing fr/gr a try this summer. In hindsight Bryant should have skipped out, therefore he now would be judged fairly on his folkstyle ability.
Jareds coach is to blame for his schedule.
So that i understand how this works, i will review:
Last year Jared is runner up state finals 3-7
Bryant state champ last year (gotta mean something) maybe not
Jared beats Bryant at GR , cant blame Bryant for going ( well maybe you can)
This year Jared beats same Gr AA 3 times, i think he is no. 4 or 5 on the all class list.
Bryant goes to every tough tourney and wins, beats guys that have beat Jared
Bryant beats two different fargo AA
Meanwhile Jareds coach is taking him to and hosting weak tourneys

You cant penalize the returning state champ he deserves #1 until it is proven differently, and with his schedule and unbeaten season how can anyone deny him of that?

Maybe Bryant should have gone to Fargo and/or Junior Duals. Let that be a lesson learned to everyone. If you want to be ranked high then go to Fargo and/or Junior duals, do well, and Chief will take that into consideration when he's ranking you.

I do have to question your comment about Dake possibly taking down Burroughs. Dake is a beast, but I wonder sometimes if Burroughs is even human. Dake and Burroughs will for sure make each other better at the world level.

Dake gets better and better every match. If they ever meet up in a freestyle match I'm guessing Burroughs will win the first match or 2 but Dake will figure out a way to win.

Have you ever seen the Williams kid wrestle? I'm guessing you haven't if you post this question. Both are very quality kids, but I personally think Chief has this one correct. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to see them wrestle out in Denver in March.

At 152 - not that it matters but -

Zack Hoskins STA Won over John Peden Goodland M-Dec 10-1
That is a recent head to head.

Styles do create difficulties in match ups.

Many other recent head to head match ups are significant for regionals and the respective state tournaments for several wrestlers.

That is actually a great question. If Williams had not had such a tough schedule, I would have tied them at #1. I anticipate both of them to make the All-Class Dual teams.

Mike, you should know by now that i am not a newbe to this sport. Tucker wrestled and beat a kid this year that was a state champ at both Gr and Fr. What does that really mean? Nothing. He was the only one competing at that weight. That happens alot , and if you need me to be more specific i can do that with alot of instances. Show up, and at least place in the top 3. So being a kansas state champ at a certain weight in GR and FS doesnt mean a whole lot.

So being a kansas state champ at a certain weight in GR and FS doesnt mean a whole lot.

Wow way to take that away from a lot of kids.

As far as I know, you have no say seeing as how you've already stated your kid has never wrestled freestyle or greco.

It's guys like you that are a cancer to the sport. Instead of promoting FS and GR you tear it down by saying winning a state championship in FS or GR "doesn't mean a whole lot."
