Does anyone know what rule changes will be voted on at fall meetings for Kansas Kids Folkstyle competition?

Hopefully to limit the Kids State to 8th grade & under and to allow 6 & unders. Then we would have a true kids state and High school would have their state.

I've seen a draft agenda for the Kids Executive Council meeting, scheduled for September 11. The agenda may change slightly before the meeting.
  • Rule Changes for 2005-06
  • State Tournament Bids (2007-2009)
[i] Proposals / How to Present
    [ii] Special Meeting
  • Add 6 & Under to State Qualifiers
  • Weight Changes for 2005-2006
  • Creation of Kansas Awards
    [i] Triple Crown
    [ii] Kansas Challenge
  • Discussion of Thinking Outside the Box
  • State Tournament
[i] Recommendations: Entry Fee, Gate, Officials Pay
  • Executive Council Meetings
[i] Is there a need for three per year
  • National Teams (including Southern Plains)
  • Recommendation of Officers 2005-06

The agenda for the State Body meeting will be assembled at the Executive Council meeting. There will then be District meetings held in October prior to the State Body meeting on October 30.

After reviewing the agenda that I just posted, I realize that the proposed rules changes, which was the original query, are not listed. My understanding is that the list will be included as an attachment to the official agenda, which has not been mailed yet. We should have an answer to this question in the next few weeks.

Questions on the 6's at state to determine if it is needed.
1. How many extra people will be needed to run 6&under?
2. How many years do they have left to wrestle?
3. Are they really ready for that tournament?
4. Does adding them to the State tournament extended it another day.
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION
Is this what the kids want or just the parents?

Someone needs to talk to the people in oklahoma, because they have 6 and under in our state tourney and it runs just as smooth as all the other age groups.

The State Body meeting is an open meeting. Only the chartered club's may vote at the meeting, and each chartered club is limited to one (1) vote per club.
I would encourage those interested, to attend your district meetings to voice your opinions on any number of issues. The district meetings generally happen a week or two before the state meeting. While the state meeting is open to the public it is not a good place to go in order to vent about things you would like to change. We have a great deal of work to do in a short period of time and time for dissent or debate is at a premium. For the most part, the issues which will be voted on have already been thrashed out at the district meetings and each club has made up their mind on how to vote.

Excellent point, sportsfan02. I would strongly concur with your suggestion.

I will be posting the dates and locations for all of the district meetings on the homepage at http://www.usawks.com . Look for this information to be posted around mid-September.

Jeff roberts is a man that wants to change the rules for high school boys not to be able to wrestle in the kids state after there in high school and he has not been thinking of the kids that have wrestled since they were 6 or 8 when they started. I hope he knows that someday when his boy is in high school, that boy may want to wrestle and i would like to hear jeff try and tell him the reason they can,t is people like himself wanted to kick them out once they were in high school wrestling. when parents drive there kids to wrestle every week and this goes on from 6 years old to the age of 14 and then if he has not quit wants to go on and wrestle till he is 16 for gods sakes let him. the people at the state body are as good a group of men and ladies that you can find let them make the rules and try and keep the kids wrestling.

Below was my post about age and weight cut offs. Grandad where do you get that I am trying to cut out high school kids? Read all my posts about this issue. If anything changes will probably hurt my own sons chances as he does better in the 3 lb weight division changes than the 5 lb changes that will probably occur to let the 6 and under kids in. Read through all my posts and see if you can find one, I might have missed one. But I really don't know if this will happen or not. Don't know what the proposed rule changes are. I think they will be announced sometime in Sept. I think the committe has to consider the proposal sent to them then decide if they want to have them voted on or not, they might change them as they see fit. posted April 01, 2005 08:27 AM

Could a motion to change to USAW weights and age cuttoff happen for next year? What is the process for this to happen. I understand this will probably be bad for my son but it really needs to happen to let those 6 and unders wrestle at State.

this was the example on an earlier post and one that probably needs to happen

10-U 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140, HWT. ( modify to add 50, 55 )

My two cents, Do not cut any age group if there is any possible way to keep it. We need to expand wrestling if at all possible, not cut it.
I know that is not always feasable but give it a shot first. Who knows one of these 16 year olds will get just another shot of confidence that could propel him into a DI or DII program.
It might meen that a few more parents might have to step and volunteer to help out.
Think Positive, after all that is what we tell our kids.

I just wanted to make certain there is no confusion in the above post. Mike posted the agenda for the September 11th Executive Counsel Meeting. dsgolden asked "if anybody can come to the state body meeting or is it limited to certain people" I want to make sure people are not confusing the Sept. 11th Executive Counsel Meeting w/ the State Body meeting which will be held in late October or early November.

I think that the creation of some sort of series challenge like they have in Oklahoma is a great tool to help promote wrestling not only in the wrestling community but also outside the community to help draw newcomers in each year. I have always stated that winning hardware isn't the aspect of wrestling that should be emphasized, but instead it should be the values of hard work, sportsmanship, and individual responsibility that wrestling should impress upon not only the kids, but also the community (parents, coaches, etc.).

However, with today's society's allure of championships and winning medals and trophies, I believe that some sort of series championship could make for a good draw for the sport, while also impressing those life lessons aforementioned.
