I do not disagree that freestyle/greco help wrestling out. But if we want the kids in KS to join the rest of the top states,we need to look at the rules put on our HS kids/coaches.
My son tried freestyle/greco and did not like it. He does practise it just no tournaments.The main reason he does practice is for summer Folkstyle.
Every one seems to think if we shorten the Folkstyle,more kids will do freestyle/greco. I do not think this will be. If you talk with the kids there is more to it than that.From what is see the young kids do not like to get tossed. That high air that we think is cool sucks for the new kid that bounced.My son in his mind you have no control over your opponent. He all ways states you just grab him and role,role and role.He like greco [his hand fighting skills are good] but head locks and lats are not his cup of tea.
On the last note he is doing this for college.I know freestyle/greco are some part of college wresting but not the hole. My son has never said any thing about a world cup :{
