The dates for this year’s event are THURSDAY April 13th, FRIDAY April 14th and SATURDAY April 15th. It is held at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This is one of the nation’s elite team events with top notch competition guaranteed. Our middle school teams attend this event also.

The qualifying tournament for this event is Sunday Feb 26, 2017 at the Salina Bicentennial Center. This year, Kansas is taking 6 teams plus alternates. We will be wrestling for 7th/8th at the qualifier so it is easier to select alternates. Every year there are changes to the teams because of injury, etc. With so many changes to the teams last year, there was some confusion as to what team certain wrestlers were on. If a wrestler who finished above you at the qualifying tournament can’t go, you automatically move up one spot. In other words, if you finished fourth and the second place wrestler drops out, you move to third team and the third place finisher moves to second team. The placers below you all move up one spot and the 7th place finisher then has the option of going. The top 6 finishers in each weight will receive the required forms etc at the awards podium the day of the qualifier.

We will meet at the Ramada Inn – 605 SW Fairlawn, Topeka, KS 66606 - Thursday April 13th between 9-10 am to pass out gear and load up on the buses for the trip to Council Bluffs. We will leave by noon in order to arrive and get checked in to our hotel before weigh-in. Weigh-ins are at 5pm and we will be there early to be one of the first in line to weigh in. Everyone has to weigh in from 5-8pm Thursday – there is no Friday weigh-in. I understand this location is not convenient for everyone. If it is out of your way to come to Topeka first, I will give your wrestler their gear at the hotel in Iowa after the weigh in.

This year, I will be doing the same thing as the middle school in regards to the shorts for Team 1 – sublimated shorts for Team 1 members. Also this year, we will have 2 buses for the wrestlers to ride on. Depending on how many alternates we have, there may be one van needed. We believe this is safer and it is one less thing to worry about.

I will have someone smarter than me post a link to the singlets.

The wrestlers will be staying at the same hotels as last year – Best Western Plus at 2510 Abbott Plaza and Candlewood Suites at 2601 Abbott Plaza. These are right across the street from each other. I will have a block of rooms for the parents at both hotels and will also have additional block at the Sleep Inn – which is 1 block away.

Keep an eye on the talk forum for additional information as we get closer to the event.

Any child that hasn't done this needs to try it is a great experience with some great competition. Ask any kid that has done it and i would bet the would have nothing but good things to say about this great opportunity.

If your open to suggestions.... to add perhaps a few bullet holes or razor wire across one of the legs and hip of the singlet with the soilders, nothing over board.

Perhaps for the planes have them firing seeing the muzzle flash coming out of the barrels and either sky explosion plumes of smoke such as you would see from anti air fire suppression and/or bullet holes.

The ship is perfect but would be interested what the big guns would look like on there firing and water explosions near it from near misses from enemy fire.

Something to play around with perhaps, but truly digging the theme and choices

I like the snoopy idea in the corner of the leg! Wood of been cool to perhaps dog tags on some others maybe with WWI heros name on it from that service saying what medal recipient they were with it or perhaps the soilders cross with the rifle helmet and boots.... just thought I would throw that out there

Entry fee is $20 general admissions $5 for elementary state. If you place and qualify and elect to go to the heartland duels... then you pay a fee for the gear/singlet, hotel, travel and food, I think last year I paid a little under $300 for my kid to go and once we got there felt like it was worth every penny. This only covers your kids expenses not the parents.

Below is the hotel contact information where the parent blocks are set up. The wrestlers are staying at the Best Western Plus and Candlewood Suites. Last year, Team Kansas and Kansas parents had all the rooms at the Best Western and over half of the rooms at the Candlewood. We added a block of rooms at the Sleep Inn this year. The Best Western and Candlewood are across the street from one another - the Sleep Inn is 2 blocks away.

Best Western Plus
2510 Abbott Plaza
Carter Lake, IA 51510
402-505-4900

Candlewood Suites
2601 Abbott Plaza
Omaha, NE 68110
402-342-2500

Sleep Inn
2525 Abbott Dr
Omaha, NE 68110

Ask for the KANSAS WRESTLING 2017 block when making reservations.

Don't forget to get entered in the qualifying tournament for this event. It is this Sunday February 26 at the Salina Bicentennial Center in Salina

The top 6 in each of the 17 weight classes earn a spot on the 6 Kansas Teams

We will be wrestling for 7th and 8th place - the 7th place finishers will have the first opportunity to go as alternates

The top 6 finishers in each weight will receive the required forms and information at the awards stand on Sunday.

I will have the same information available to the 7th place finishers as well

I will be listing the 6 Elementary Teams in the next couple days.

If your wrestler finished in the top 6 and IS NOT going to the duals, I need to know ASAP

I will start another topic for the singlet voting - Team 1 will be first to vote for the singlet they want to wear

I will also start another topic for the alternates - the 7th place finisher in each weight will have first chance at being an alternate

Remember to keep an eye on this forum - I will post any changes to the Teams as they happen
