We wrestle in D2 and I'm a big fan of no subs just our district championships.
My kid is in the big bell curve of kids at 10/u and I just for fun looked at subs for D3 and D4 at my son's weight class. One bracket has 2 kids and the other has 4 kids.
What's the point?
If basically everyone is qualifying for Districts in D3 and D4, then I guess I don't see the need.
I'm sure I'm missing something but it seems unnecessary.

It was the subject of a vote in D4. For better or for worse, about 60% of the clubs attending at the D4 annual meeting voted to keep subdistricts, apparently to create an extra tournament for club revenue. Unless something comes down from on high, I'm guessing that will be the process next year, too. At this point, the number of wrestlers just doesn't seem to support a subdistrict tournament any more; the subdistrict tournament is now the size of one of the small regular season tournaments.

Yes if I remember correctly it was a close vote. I think revenue is a big part of this, as well as finding a facility big enough and willing to host a 700-800 kid tournament.

I am sure it would probably be big enough. The main thing would be the cost to use it. I have no idea what the casino charges for rent

The one problem we will have is the casino hosts 1A Division II basketball championships this week. We would not be able to get into there or Gross memorial because they have 1A Division I championships. We would have to use a high school with two gyms and pretty of seating.

I don't think the casino would be big enough anyway. When they had the Gunsmoke Nationals there it wasn't very big...decent floor space but not much seating.

I've noticed that many kids from District 1 and 2 seem to be wrestling in a lower weight for Districts. This must be due to only having to make weight twice instead of 3 times. In a way it puts District 3 and 4 at a disadvantage.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. Everyone has a week in between each weigh in, it's not like they are doing 1 day in a row and we are doing 2 days in a row.

There may be advantages/disadvantages with how we are all on different schedules but I just don't see it with regards to weighing in.

it has to do with there is no penalty for not making weight this year you can just bump up if you dont make it so it makes sense to register for the lowest weight you want to wrestle try to make it, if you dont, no biggie, just bump. that's why you see kids doing that and yes 2 tournaments instead of 3 makes that easier to accomplish. you only have to get down there twice two weeks apart

It occurs to me that some of these problems (at least out west) could be resolved by going to an 8 district alignment, like at least one of our neighboring states. I'm not saying that's the solution as it raises some other issues, but I wonder if that option has been seriously discussed.

My understanding of a state bracket has all districts represented in each quarter of the bracket itself. How do they line up? Is it the D1 (1) vs D3 (4) and the D2 (2) vs D4 (3) in the same quarter?

I got that part bromom. A 16 man bracket is decided into quarters. I am asking how the quarter of the brack is aligned. Is it D1 (1 placer) v D3 (4 placer) and D2 (2 placer) v D4 (3 placer)? And another quarter of the baracket D2 (1 placer) v D3 (4 placer) and D1 (2 placer) v D3 (3 placer)! Etc..... Or is the Alingment D1 (1) v D3 (4) and D4 (2) v D2 (3)????

Big Papa...that portion of the bracket is not released until after the completion of all the qualifiers.

Otherwise you would have people throwing matches all over the state to avoid being in the quarterfinal match.
