Saturday night was tough. We had two wrestlers compete in the State Finals as Jace Koelzer and Nick Jouret wrestled their final match in an Olathe South singlet. The finals weren’t easy, but both guys went on to capture their 2nd State Title. The really tough part came after the dust settled and reality set in: I had sat in their corner for the last time.
During the four years they’ve represented Olathe South, Nick & Jace have truly transformed our program. Sure they’ve won a boatload of matches, but what’s more valuable is the impact they’ve had on the culture of our team. They’re fierce competitors - they outwork everyone - they’re coachable - they love wrestling and jump at opportunities to learn/train/compete - and they are all around GREAT PEOPLE!
You can’t replace a Jace Koelzer or a Nick Jouret. Their high school wrestling career may be over, but their legacy assures that we maintain what they established. We will continue to produce young men of character who value the tradition and culture that was laid before them. They’ve inspired a number of teammates to follow their example, and that’s helping propel us to new heights. I wanted to take the opportunity to brag on these two and say thank you to both Nick & Jace. You leave this program in far better shape than you found it! Below are some details on their impressive careers:
Jace Koelzer
Career Record: 158-30
State Finishes: SQ, Champ, 3rd, Champ
Nick Jouret
Career Record: 169-20
State Finishes :3rd, 3rd, Champ, Champ
Congratulations on a job well done men. Can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve at the next level!
