This is an honest question and want to understand. What is the reasoning behind doing a blind draw if the tournament is now pre-seeded? I get doing a blind draw if the purpose is to save us coaches from a seeding meeting but besides that what would be the purpose?

Eliminating the need for a seeding meeting is a major plus with the blind draw. I'm also fine using a seeding committee or track to work through criteria and seed out accordingly. In any case, I support axing seeding meetings from all regular season tournaments.

I do love the concept of the blind draw. I think we all worry far too much about seeding - especially during the regular season. Throw all the cats in a bag and the toughest will fight their way out. I think there's value in that for our kids. Focus on who's standing in front of you, one match at a time, and forget about everything else. If you hit 3-4 of the best kids in your bracket on your way to a title, GOOD! You're better off having traveled a tougher road. If you lost to the champ and would likely have beaten the runner-up if you were on the other side, does that really matter in January? I think there's something to be gained mentally with the blind draw.

I think the ideal system lies somewhere in the middle: separate the top two kids at each weight and blind draw to fill the bracket.

Just wait til the seeds come out! Coaches, Wrestlers, and Fans are all going to complain and swear they could seed it better.
How many Little Johnny's are we going to have that did not get the seed they thought that they deserved and the seeding committee hates them?

A Blind draw eliminates all that!!!
it also makes every round exciting, could be 2 state champs wrestling in 1st round!
The only down fall is you do not always get the best matches in the finals!

I see what you guys are saying for sure. Definitely interesting to think about and maybe see one day. To me pre-seeding isn't as beneficial for the top guys but rather the mid range and lower guys.It will more than likely make sure your blood round and the round before are set up the way they should be (competitive at least). College tournaments seed - even when they are tough - so I guess I just don't see the benefit in doing something different than that. As far as people complaining about seeds - we don't have a seeding meeting anymore so it takes away listening to coaches that complain. Anyone outside of that - parents or whatever - I decide to not participate in any seeding or ranking conversations with them lol. Really doesn't matter to me as long as I don't have to attend a seeding meeting and talk about seeds for hours.

This classic is living up to it's reputation! Twenty-six All-Class ranked wrestlers will be clashing in the finals! It was close to being all 28. At 170, our #1 is out for now and a Missouri kid is in at 145. Should be a BLAST tomorrow!

106 - #1 v #5
113 - 1 v 2
120 - 2 v 4
126 - 3 v 4
132 - 1 v 2
138 - 2 v 7
145 - 1 v MO
152 - 1 v 4
160 - 2 v 5
170 - 2 v NR
182 - 1 v 3
195 - 1 v 2
220 - 2 v 4
285 - 2 v 3
