Is it just me, or was Norton's regional tougher than Hoisington's? Not that I'm complaining...we got 4th at Hoisington, and I don't know if we would have done so well had we been put in Norton's. I just wondered if it was just me, or what.

Hey man that's awesome that you keep up with the team. Wrestling needs all the possitive support and media that it can get. You do your part man. Wakeeney did have a good showing at Hoisington this weekend I was impressed.

Yeah, I was really impressed with how we did. Jewell has come a long way, and Flax had some illness earlier this season, and Schuster was injured, so I'm really glad that we did so well.

Hoisington had to have been the weakest regional in the state

Hoisington was equally as easy as the first JV tournament of the year, if not easier. I wouldn't be bragging A.C.

Hoisington was NOT the weakest regional--Hesston was. It will be surprising to me if more than 12 state medals, total, are won by wrestlers from Hesston.

Here is some interesting data to look at in terms of the regionals!

REG SITE AvgWins AvgWin%
Norton Comm Regional 25.7 79%
Easton-Pleasant Rdg Regional 24.0 76%
Hesston Regional 22.1 72%
Hoisington Regional 22.4 71%
Grand Total 23.5 74%

We wrestled the Hesstion regional and when you compare the average Wins of the wrestlers that made it to state, to the other regionals I would say that Hesston was not as far behind as people think.
I think that there were some brackets at each regional that was tougher than at other regionals.

Here is some more interesting data!

Your statistics, while interesting, are meaningless as they do not account for strength and quality of competition,(or the number of forfeits that are part of the wins).

Several weeks ago some on this forum had suggested keeping "score" of the regionals at state --6 points for a first, five for a second, etc. etc. to determine which regional was the toughest. Once the points are totaled it wil be obvious which regional was the toughest.

Good luck to all state qualifiers.

It all boils down to....the luck of the draw! Be it out of a hat or a pencil line defining the boundaries for each Regional! Such is life, get used to it!

wood--could not help but notice that you are from Russell; one of the schools who profited from the "luck of the draw" and got assigned to the Hoisington regional. You have the luxury of having a "such is life" attitude.

Look, Ive been to the "easy regional" and the "tough regional", the point is, sometimes you get lucky and get into the easy regional and have a cake walk qualifiying for state, other years you get into the tough regional and have to work your *** off to place. Either way, if your a good wrestler and you deserve to place, then 99.9% of the time you will place at the tough regional. However sometimes you get into that bracket with 5 ranked guys and good wrestlers have to sit at home. Thats just the way life is, deal with it.

If a person wanted to use the "Rankings" as the standard to judge whether the correct wrestlers "Made it", then here are the numbers:
Based on the last set of Rankings there are 84 ranked wrestlers. 75 of those qualified for state.
Which is slightly less than 90%.
If you throw in the atleast 3 injured or sick wrestlers that surely would have made it, then there would have been 93%.

I also know of a few wrestlers that I believe should have been ranked, but weren't because they do not wrestle for the big name schools.

While I know there are a few heartbreakers (152 Norton) and a few Illnesses (145 Hoisington)

I think there will be some great wrestling this weekend.

God Bless

That is the only way the Regionals are equal is 56 qualifiers. You can't say that the best 224 wrestlers in the State did qualify.

Nicely put 85.. This complaint has been beat to death over the years and always will be. One thing that doesnt get mentioned too often is how being in that "tough region" has its advantages as well. Just the preperation and mental toughness getting through it. When many kids throughout the years have taken 4th at regionals and then the next week win the State, how can that not be good for the sport. The tougher the competition you see on a consistent basis the tougher your going to be on a consistent basis. Be thankful you are in the midst of the best competition. You benefit from it.
