This is a great topic - thanks for starting it and keep those names coming. I have great respect for the men and women in uniform who are assigned all over the world doing their part to protect our way of life and the freedoms that are often taken for granted.

ps - i feel even better knowing some are former wrestlers

I know that Zane Hershey (Hugoton '02), Jake Kreigbaum (Abilene '04) and Tanner Gibson (McPherson '02) are all attending the Air Force Academy right now. Zane and Jake are still wrestling as far as I know, but I am no longer. Thanks for all the support of the military, this is truly a great topic.

Asst. Coach Calvin King of Russell is a SSG in the Army Reserves and returned from his 2nd Tour of Duty overseas, he coached my freshman year then at the beginning of my sophomore year he shipped out and returned during the state tournament my junior year, he was finally back to coaching for us this year, my senior year, and it was nice to have him back.....plus he had some cool stories about over there for our bus rides home from places

What was the name of the wrestler that was a P.O.W. a few years back? He is from the Wichita area and went to Butler Community College for a while too.

Todd Sanchez just returned from Iraq two weeks ago. He recieved a purple heart as he was hit by schrapnel (sp?) from a car bomb. Todd placed 3rd in 2001 at 135. He will complete his bachelors degree in education next semester at Univ. of Minn at Morris where he wrestled until they dropped the program two years ago. He is planning on teaching and coaching.
