the ref on jesse barber's mat did make a very bad call, and he did cheat him out of going to state. I hope someone sends it into the state as well as several other matches he officiated. he made very bad calls all day and cost many good wrestlers the match. he was very inconsistant on calling pins. one match the kid was losing by 5 and did a 5point move and put the kid on his back with like a minute to go in the third. the kid on bottom was completey flat and the ref did not call the pin. the kid on bottom stoped breathing so the kid on top got off him, needless to say the kid lost(i think it was a hutch kid and a northwest kid) the same ref on another match the kid did the same move but the kid on bottom post his arm so his shoulders were not flat and within a second or 2 the ref called the pin. this same ref made calls like that all day. he had people upset at hem all day. he needs to go back down to kids wrestling to learn more and learn to become consistant

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I believe that the refs at Regionals and State are voted on by the coaches if I'm not mistaken

To this I must say two things.

1. As it has already been mentioned to ref at regionals the officials have to have recommendations from several schools, so apprently a good number of people seem to think he was an alright official.

2. As far as sending things into the state that won't do any good whatsoever. NFHS rules specifically prohibit the use of any kind of replay or video equipment for use in review of a match, and that includes ejections. The only people who can do anything is the coaches, and that is to not recommend the guy for post season work next year if he really is as bad as you make him out to be.

There were 3 Refs at that regional that were voted on by the coaches. There were some controversial calls, but that comes with every wrestling event in the world. 2 of the 3 refs did a very good job. The ref from Great Bend hussles harder than any ref I have ever seen in Kansas High School. All of us coaches were talking about it. Martinez did do a good job this week-end. I don't know if I would have DQ the Dodge City kid, but I am a coach and that's not my job to make that decision.
See you at State!

Remember that a pin is a two second silent count.

Also, a referee at our regionals made a pretty gutsy call, but it was the right call. One of our wrestlers was up 8-7 with about 20 seconds left when they went out of bounds. The opponent hustled back to the center of the ring and got his foot on the line (like you should) and my wrestler just kind of sauntered back really taking his time and got hit with a second stalling call to tie the match up and send it into overtime. It was a good call, he needs to get his butt back to the center of the mat.

Fortunately, we did get a takedown in overtime and in the finals, he did a nice job of getting back to center!

LOL, guess you would have had to kick his butt if he didn't get back.
